on a break from the edge of their own box they end with 4 or 5 in the oppos box. i don't think it's just tactical, for some players it's a natural part of their game.

Exactly, every time the goal-line technology debate comes up I raise this argument. The goal line is the least of our worries. True. I think there should be video review for every big decision, so goals/red cards/penalties. I agree to a certain extent, but was discussing this the other day in relation to how far you take it. Do you review every single offside decision given or just ones that lead to a goal being allowed/disallowed? Do you review every single phase of play before a goal? Say, for example, the ball is played over the top and Cisse would be one on one with the keeper, but Cisse is incorrectly flagged offside - do you review that kind of decision? If you do review it and realise that Cisse wasn't offside, how do you rectify it? You can't recreate the exact scenario.. Dead simple. A team gets two reviews a game. (like in cricket) If you get it right you keep the review. If you get it wrong you lose it and you only have one review left. Or indeed you only get one review a game at the start so there's more chance you use it wisely. Said this for ages, would be a brilliant feature, you can only use it for goals ruled out for offside/given and you think he's offside lets say and fouls given in and around the box. I'd be even stricter you get 3 review but get any of them wrong and you lose all your reviews! and if you get one right do you get it back ?

would that not possibly mean tiote getting far too much possession ? He needs to win it and then give it; look what's in-front of him! i was more thinking of when we play the ball out from the back 4. that central pivot gets more of the ball and that would be tiote, if not it drags cabaye basically back into the position he has been the last few weeks. Well, considering that we've got 2 good footballing CBs at the club (or at least one from next season), you should expect them to be able to carry the ball and look for options ahead of them. Tiote covering. easy said but look at most teams, they play it to that central pivot in the hope it drags a player in and creates space in behind. also it means we have tiote in there purely to win it and give it, nothing else ? but of a waste of a space on the team sheet imo. Look at Mascherano when he was at Liverpool, Busquets now at Barcelona. Winning the ball, breaking up play and keeping it simple with a pass is their job. And it's very effective. We have players ahead of Tiote who are capable of hurting teams and it's exactly what we should be doing. both much more than tiote type ball winners though, great at keeping possession and recieving thye ball off the back 4 and keeping it going.

Rubbish, there are plenty of CBs that come-out with the ball. Having the CBs coming-up with the ball is probably a more effective way to create space in the middle of the park as it takes longer for the pressing player to chase the CB and closing him down. (Unless you've got a Kevin Davies like striker in your side. ) It's not a waste of space having a player there purely to win it and release it to the more creative players. The more we push-up, the further up the park Tiote would win it; thus helping us keep the ball in the opposition's half a bit more. yes they do, but look at man utd for example, centre backs like you say who can, but they don't like to from that deep mainly as it doesn't really keep the oppo moving like it does when they pass the ball out, keeping possession, keeping it moving, keeping the oppo moving, creating gaps.

and makalele done a lot more thasn that, he was much more of a link man, controlling possession than tiote , he was also very good at bringing the ball of the back four which I don't think tiote can do well enough.

Precisely. People are saying they'd play him ahead of Tiote, but I've seen very little to suggest he'd be capable of that. He's a tidy, quick passer, but he'd simply be invisible as a defensive force against 90% of Premier League midfields. he'd take his place in the XI for me, not positionally. What three are you thinking? anita, cabaye, sissoko at present, at the start of the season i was thinking anita, tiote, cabaye. From what I've seen so far, I wouldn't feel comfortable with him in a three minus Tiote. Unfortunately for him, buying Sissoko, and using him as we do, has made his inclusion even less likely. Our best three, for me, is Sissoko, Cabaye and Marveaux. best three technically aye, most effective ? I'm not so sure.

rooney, that volley. gordon davies for fulham rounding off a great move scholes has a few rounding off great moves against us arjen robben, knew he waqs going to score as soon as he picked the ball up and a great tidy finish
-
whereas I think marveaux would give even less defensivly. push him forward to drift and exploit space with ben arfa off cisse imo.
-
Aye. this really. Legend. aye, thought he'd fluked it watching live inside the ground. miscontrolled it but got to it first till I got a chance to see it on the tele. all deliberate, knew exactly what he was doing.
-
Was going to say Atouba but couldnt remember if it was that good or not so tried to youtube it but doesnt seem to be on so just left it aye, i possibly remember as better than it was for that reason.

jonny rep, though like most goals from way back i'm sure they get better in the memory. atouba up here for spurs.

I honestly thought it was for the left of the middle 3 i'd been twittering on about for ages. whewn we bought sissoko I thought he was for part of that 3 also.
-
not helped by making ourselves easy to defend against by none of the team bar cisse being a natural at making runs into the box, even late runs.
-
Aye i said the same a few days ago, if you think his antics are bad when winning, just wait until they play poorly and lose. new manager gets his team fired up for a derby (and i still maintain till they scored they were second best), hardly as if he pulled some tactical masterstroke.
-
not really a pardon, i've only ever envisioned him in a middle 3 which hasn't really been given that chance yet.
-
thing is if people want cabaye to play further forward then tiote (if he plays) will get more of the ball and to keep it simple drags everyone towards him. i don't think tiote's got worse as much as he's been sussed.
-
any reason why that still couldn't happen as it's along the lines of what i've posted in the WBA match thread. I'd like to believe that i really would, but i just can't see it due to what you've seen as him as a player or do you just think the manager doesn't see it like that ?
-
unless the wingers are of the ginola variety I can't see it working, it's very 1980's/90's and theres a reason why teams don't do it anymore.

I've posted before about fans at the Munich friendly who waxed lyrical about their style of play, patient, keep possession, go back if necessary, wait for the right opportunity, movement off the ball, fluidity etc and we should do the same etc.....................then as soon as we got the ball "GET IT FORWARD MAN, WE'LL NOT SCORE FROM THERE, GET IT WIDE AND CROSS IT MAN" it translates into the general public aswell, it's not just football fans.
