Every team has players like that though when you don’t have the spending power of the big 6. Semenyo, Cook etc Ismaila Sarr looks incredible now after falling off a cliff. Ryan Yates, Chris Wood. Tonnes of examples of this and all good managers do it. This isn’t a knock on Eddie it’s just part of being a top manager but it’s not unique to him.

This isn’t really a fair question, I don’t think Howe could have done what Nuno did last year but I think Howe is a better manager.

I think to be top he needs some European pedigree. It’s the only reason Emery is ahead of him in my eyes. Pep, Arteta are ahead in their own tier. I’d probably put Emery, Howe, Glasner, Iraola in the next tier. None of those fan bases would swap their manager out for the others.

I don’t think it’s to do with being streaky I think we just lack those super star level players the bigger teams have to take us that extra mile. The big 4 have lots of players who can bail them out each week. I’m excluding Spurs and Man U from the big 6 they are just competing with the best of the rest for now.

See my previous post, my problem with it is people think Eddie will make someone far out succeed any of their potential. All of those players had potential outside of Burn who had an odd career gradually getting better. Miggy was out record signing and had 6 good months and then became a total liability

The Howe effect has caused rose tinted glasses among Newcastle fans. We signed good players who hit their potential here in Isak, Botman, Livra, Hall, Bruno etc. We had small stints of players playing above their potential but not sustaining it in Longstaff, Murphy, Miggy, Gordon. some players regressed in Wood, Barnes, Willock, Fraser. He’s got the best out of Burn and Big Joe. his record is pretty much on par with any good manager, but we can’t just assume he will turn players into world beaters if they don’t have that potential anyway. Im probably missing a lot of players.
