Not the first time Solano's spat his dummy out is it? I remember reading a couple of years back during a game at home to Boro, after him and Robert were subbed around the hour mark, both were showered and had left the stadium before the match had finished. Also remember reading about him being in a huff during the Feyenoord away game when he was only named amongst the subs. Aye and if there are players who don't give a crap ship them off. Are you referring to Nobby Solano?

"the business end of the season" we had so much to play for at the end of this season, cup finals galore. i think we have a vendetta on our hands tbh. No vendetta, just don't rate him. And if Martins had played even half decent in the last 8 games or so we might have nicked a top 10 spot, meaning Intertoto Cup football again. Thank fuck he didn't then, I hate it. If you're blaming our end of season run on Martins, I think you need to look a bit further afield.

the last game in which we had a lot to play for was the 6 pointer against Sheff Utd, in which Martins was phenomenal. we petered out after that, as a team under a manager who had lost all credibility. Was going to mention that game, aye. That and Alkmaar were our last two big games, and Martins did more than enough against the Dutch.

I'd hardly call our last few games the 'business end'. EDIT: as johnny's already said.

Yakubu's got 12 but hasn't scored for about 12 games.

He's to young, A captain should be given to a player with expierence and is respected amoung the other players, Imagine Taylor trying to bollock a senior player on the pitch, They'd tell him to fuck off. Load of bollocks about senior players needing to be Captain these days. Nolan, Reo-Coker, Davies, Richards and Downing are just a few of the players who have captained aged under 25. Nitpicking but Downing's never captained Middlesbrough.

Speed'll still be under contract as a player anyway surely, so we wouldn't be able to just get him here any more than we could just get Anelka?
-
Fair play to Nicky Butt, has anyone ever redeemed themselves in the eyes of a set of fans more than him?
-
Indeed........I spoke to the Rent-a-Mong office this afternoon and their entire staff is booked out for tomorrow. Should be a window-licking classic.
-
He's been absolutely abysmal.
-
The NUFC rent-a-mongs better set their watches.

Craig Hope's posts on here back in the day had more sway than the absolute shit he writes on that site. What was it last week, record number of penalty takers in a season? WOW!
-
Can you explain how they arent better than a West Ham without Tevez? over the course of the season west ham would have scored the same amount of goals without tevez i think - remember that he had a pretty poor first half of the season, then followed by this fantastic end to it... Do you think West Ham would have stayed up without Tevez?

Allardyce has got a lot of fucking work to do here. What a mess.
-
Should Owen leave, I'd quite happily forego three points and a suspension for one of our players to do his knee again. We paid for the fucker after all.
-
Very disappointed to see Sheff Utd drop. Stead and Webber should be having nightmares about the brace of sitters each that they missed.
-
Only four players scored more than 12 tbf.
-
People don't genuinely think that it's pure coincidence that we end up with the 'temperamental sulks' while Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, by and large, get the players with the "right" attitude do they?
-
I don't think Bent has anywhere close to the potential Martins does.
-
Better players around him would also help. Players who know what they're doing would be a start.
-
But the 3 years before that, he'd been playing alongside and under some of the best strikers of the last decade. Surely he'd have learned the basics already? He's been in a new league and scored 17 goals, 11 in that league and you think he doesn't know "the basics"? Howay Nut, you're not stupid.

What the others have said really. Martins has most of the attributes to be a top class striker, two good feet, good in the air despite being small, very strong, powerful shot, plenty 'tricks in his locker', ridiculous pace, good link up play, the work-rate and the will to win. So he's not perfect. If he'd been perfect, we'd not have got him for £10m at his age. With the right coaching - not what he's been getting here off Moe, Larry and Curly - he can do anything he wants. Touch and movement need work, that's what training is for. Maybe it's because our training has been so sub-standard for years that we expect the finished article immediately.

And Drogba was still playing in the French second division at Martins' age - 62 appearances, 11 goals. Don't let that stop some people on here from being able to know whether a player will make it at the age of 5 though.
