It's the hardest thing in football. And it is POINTLESS doing any planning or identifying any targets in advance of the window opening because all that will happen is someone else will put in a bigger bid and you lose them. Better to just leave things until 8pm on the last day of the window and get Willie McKay on the blower. "Planning" gets you nowhere in football. "Fly by the seat of your pants" is where it's at. Matthew Kilgallon [Leeds - Sheff Utd] £1.75m Nigel Quashie [West Brom - West Ham] £1.5m Luis Boa Morte [Fulham - West Ham] Undisclosed David Unsworth [sheffield United - Wigan] Free Vincenzo Montella [Roma - Fulham] Loan Ben Alnwick [sunderland - Tottenham] £900,000 Adel Taarabt [Lens - Tottenham] Loan Hurry, HURRY, HURRY!! All the bestest players are going....

Remember, any takeover is a good takeover. Maybe if this fails he'll look our way. Fingers crossed. SHEPHERD OUT! SOUNESS IN!

Sounds to me like you have never paid for anything NUFC related, you just stopped going when your dad stopped paying for you. All this "on principal" stuff is just a handy excuse for not wanting to put your hand in your own pocket isn't it. If you really meant it you'd tell people not to buy you the strip for your birthday and refuse the ticket.

I'm curious as to whether the people who want us to be taken over by this lot are the same people who are complaining about our dealings in the transfer market? If only they'd had a plan... bluecool.gif

Out of interest I got the stats for this season for the number of saves made and goals conceeded by each keeper, and calculated the ratio of one against the other (ie how many saves a keeper made divided by how many goals were conceeded). This gives an idea of how well a keeper is doing while somewhat factoring out how good or bad the defence in front of him is or how well his team are playing - a keeper with a crap defence would have to make more saves and would obviously conceed more, but if he's good his ratio of saves per goal should be better than average. I also included the number of minutes played, as anything under 10 games or so isn't really representative. S/GA S GA Mins Cech 8.00 16 2 454 Isaksson 6.00 6 1 45 James 4.36 96 22 1980 Howard 4.32 82 19 1890 Pollitt 4.00 4 1 45 Lee 4.00 24 6 585 Jaaskelainen 3.67 77 21 1980 Van der Sar 3.57 50 14 1890 Sorensen 3.56 32 9 1149 Harper 3.44 31 9 725 Hahnemann 3.30 99 30 1980 Friedel 3.10 90 29 1845 Kenny 2.95 62 21 1680 Lehmann 2.84 54 19 1890 Schwarzer 2.81 76 27 1980 Taylor 2.75 22 8 381 Cudicini 2.67 8 3 626 Given 2.65 45 17 1161 Reina 2.56 41 16 1980 Foster 2.40 48 20 1215 Green 2.38 50 21 1260 Niemi 2.08 54 26 1770 Lastuvka 2.00 12 6 210 Kuszczak 2.00 2 1 90 Carroll 1.92 23 12 720 Weaver 1.92 46 24 1845 Robinson 1.82 51 28 1980 Kiraly 1.75 14 8 450 Kirkland 1.71 53 31 1845 Carson 1.70 63 37 1890 Srnicek 1.50 3 2 94 Myhre 1.33 4 3 90 Bennett 1.20 6 5 180 Hilario 0.92 11 12 900 Wright 0.67 2 3 90 Discuss.

He's good on FM 07... no idea about real life... I fairly sure most of the people on this board are basing their opinion on FM a lot of the time. That's not fair, I'm sure they look at YouTube clips as well. There's a 4 minute one of this bloke taking (mostly pretty crap) free kicks accompanied by bad rap music. Sign him up!

Yes, I can just see other clubs falling over themselves to allow us to negotiate a deal with their players to join us in a couple of months while still paying their wages and allowing us to pull out if they get injured.

Interesting hypothesis. A big fan of Elliott and Boumsong were you?

King's missed 6 league games & Chimbonda a whopping 2 (two) since you signed him. Injury crisis!!!
-
I assume you're talking about defenders here. Do you really think that signing new defenders to play in a game less than a week away alongside players they have never even trained with before will significantly improve the defense for that game? Is this the same Tottenham who have been able to play their first choice defense for the vast majority of the season and have conceeded the same number of goals as our makeshift one?

How is Hargreaves scum for saying he's Canadian because he was born and raised in Canada? It's called pride. Perhaps it's because he's so proud of being Canadian that he plays for England? Not that you can blame the lad really. Perhaps it's because playing for England would get him more exposure than playing for Canada? The choice to play for England may not actually be anything related to pride, but more to do with his ambition and drive to succeed. If he were playing for Canada, he probably wouldn't have impressed so many England supporters this past summer, he wouldn't be attracting the interest of clubs such as Man United and wouldn't be one of the most important players in the one of the top leagues in the world. You're right of course, just like no one's heard of players like Ryan Giggs or George Best. Look, I don't blame the lad for not wanting to waste his international career, but if I was Canadian I might be a bit pissed off that he'd rather play for another country than help his own national team. It's called pride.

You can't win if you don't score, and it's better to win 1 game and lose 2 than draw 2 games and lose only 1. Plus we're a long way off needing a good defence to win the league! The defence we have may not be great but it is easily good enough for a European place finish. Even this season where the defence has been absolutely decimated by injury, the reason we're in the lowly position we are now is because at the start of the season we weren't even looking like scoring in some games, much more than because of defensive frailties. Before December we only scored more than 1 goal in the league twice in 14 games. A number of our injured defenders are close to regaining fitness, but we only have 2 fit forwards for the next 3 months minimum (I'm not counting Luque, and Dyer is no more a forward than Nicky Butt is a central defender). Our priority has to be to get at least 1 more forward in (if only to give us an option on the bench to change a game). Personally I don't mind if it's only a loan, but we need someone. PS Where's the "We can't afford to spend anything, the club's hemorrhaging money, we're doomed" option for Macbeth and everyone who usually agrees with him?

Succinct & correct.

blueyes.gif Another thing to consider is that all players these days have their own personal jumped-up used car salesman trying to get the best possible deal for himself the player. At the top end of the market especially, they hold all the cards and are going to play clubs off against each other and delay any decisions being made and deals going through until they are sure no-one else is interested and they've squeezed as much as they can out of the club. Everyone thinks they're an expert because they've played a few games of Champ Manager, signed Ronaldinho and won the league.

That's low, even for you. I don't believe for a second you're naive enough to believe that. If these new investors are so benevolent, why don't they just buy SJH's 29% and make do with that for now? They'd be the major shareholder, and would be able to do pretty much what they liked. They'd be able to put in place all these top people that are going to take the club to another level, and donate all the extra money for transfers. I'm sure the holders of the remaining 30%(?) of the shares not held by the evil Freddy & Doug wouldn't complain. Then, even if they can't get the other shareholders to agree to stop the club paying dividends (which I'm sure is what they'd want obviously), they could at least put all theirs back into the club.
