Bugger, really hoped we might have had a chance getting him. Guess the fact we already have 3 - 4 (pretty uninspiring) right backs may have played against us.

Marley is on a mission to France to knacker Niang. Attaboy Marley.

Not read that anywhere before. Not read that anywhere before. having done a quick newsnow blackpool search i saw 3 possible signings http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,52480.msg2444658.html#msg2444658 Actually that was yesterday. Clearly the lack of owt on that front has pushed him over the edge.

Do you think it's more like buying a candy bar? transfers shouldn't take weeks like this one has been doing. there is 3 weeks of the transfer window to bring in the 3-4 players we need, we simply can't afford to lose any time! i seem to remember us selling woodgate to real, in a matter of hours, that's how business should be done! Marseille have many suitors for Ben Arfa. We had one suitor for Woodgate who are a bigger club and we're offering a lot of money. No brainer so we bit their hands off, different scenario entirely. And we made one of the best sales in the clubs history, up there with Dire for 8m. Not sure I was thinking that at the time.

what if after 7 days, the deal collapses, then we have 7 less days to find a replacement. we should pull out of this deal now, as we don't seem committed to the deal (i.e. on loan deal), and marseille are fucking us around He's right lads. Let's get out of this hell while we still can!

I know, this is why I don't understand why people are going nuts. Gonna be going bananas if Niang moves. The president will cancel the friday meeting as of that moment!

Aston Villa appoint Alex McLeish as new manager
BottledDog replied to Fenham Mag's topic in Football
O'Neill will only go somewhere where he's the biggest name at the club, and runs it from top to bottom. If you want a reason for him leaving now, that's it - first time he doesn't get to call the shots, he's off. Five days before the start of the season, too. I'm actually heartened he's gone, though. Had he got 20m from the sale of Milner, we'd have had 10 on yet another winger, McGeady, and another ten on a shit midfielder (Jenas) to replace another shit midfielder (Sidwell). I have to say, that is one of the main reasons I would hate to see him here. He might be able to get a team working on the pitch together but I really cannot stand the kind of overpriced, dull, steady as you go signings he seems to specialise in. -
So thats it then. Ben Afra stays at OM.

He'll also know it's probably his last chance of a big pay day too. You reckon he's on a pittance at Man City? It's a strange world when Harper sitting on his arse for 10 years accumulating piles of money means he loved the club but Given showing ambition to be at a club that won't just accept relegation, insisting on a first team place, not sitting out a good contract, as players like Babayaro would, is mercenary. Can we get the story straight? Someone who actually holds that opinion will have to answer that for you. That's my point innit. Calimag, Towelie, Teasy, Kid Icarus, Jamie87, LucaAltieri, Cubaricho and loads of others think that's the case... http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,58972.msg1633816/topicseen.html#msg1633816 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,57901.msg1575771.html#msg1575771 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,53992.msg1382179/topicseen.html#msg1382179 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,52354.msg1305407/topicseen.html#msg1305407 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,43992.msg960148/topicseen.html#msg960148 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,40303.msg832899.html#msg832899 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,43628.msg956877/topicseen.html#msg956877 I'm not saying any individual dislikes both Given AND Harper for how they've behaved. Logically, there's two schools of thought. Contempt for Given's ambition would go hand in hand with appreciation for Harper's dedication. Or appreciating Given's ambition would mean Harper's lack of it would be difficult to appreciate. A third would be to appreciate there's no absolutes. As a player, you can't win either way and just have to do what's right for yourself. If there are two schools of thought then they basically come down to whether you sympathise with a player, or you support the team. The club comes first for me, and the same would apply to any player including Harper. In this case it's all about the manner of the departure. I applaud ambition, but it doesn't matter one jot whether a player had valid reasons for wanting to leave or not if the way they go about it harms us.

Just about sums it up perfectly - no half decent manager would contemplate taking the job with Ashley there Simply because we have little money to spend at the moment, or is there something else that sees him as being markedly different to the majority of the other chairmen out there? -

That's a different story again, relating to whether he's a team player or not. Given said how deeply unhappy he was with the situation at the club. Having finished in the top 4 twice with Newcastle he found himself working under Joe 'sodding' Kinnear and after conceding 5 against Liverpool he said publicly he was consiidering his future. By requesting permission to speak to Man City, didn't he forego any rights to compensation on his current contract? Surely that reinforces the point that Shay has never been about the money. I'd also question whether HE fucked us over when it was never in his power to do so. Ashley fucked us over by selling Given AND N'zogbia in that window, both under contract and playing regularly. I don't care whether Harper or Given are interested in money, or whether ambition was the driving factor. He ultimately harmed the club (which in the end is all that matters), and that in my eyes went a hell of a long way to negate the great service he had shown for us over the years. Oh, and of course there is plenty of evidence to suggest that it is in the players power to force a move, especially away from a team that's struggling. Givens and N'Zogbias departures seemed pretty classic cases of just that.

he won't be, but it'll be him that has sanctioned the transfer to go through, and set the limit for what we can pay so that pisses all over the assumption that he wasn't going to sanction anything. Think Obi's got it spot on with his mini rant. FWIW. it's this kind of approach that got us relegated though, we need players asap or this is going to be a very long season ahead. should hughton be damanding that he needs players asap, i'm sure many other managers wouldn't accept what has gone on in this transfer You can't blame the relegation entirely on the dilly dallying of the transfer window. A portion of the blame has to be laid at each of KK, the Club and the players for the way in which it all went. Yes Hughton should be demanding players but we don't know that he isn't unless someone on here has a direct link with him or is a f***ing psychic! He's a measured bloke and I'm quite sure that if he can't get players in now he'll wait till January to assess. This has to be one of the quietest windows for all the lower level clubs, there isn't much happening, but yes, we need strengthening to play catch up with the mid table teams. How it's gone about is another matter and I like the quiet approach to the FS days of shouting from the roof tops and making us look twats when it all fails again. Not to say this approach won't fail. KK went early though, as crazy as it was and for what reason.. there was still plenty of time for the club to get the right man in and us have a safe enough good enough season.. JK was a fkn disaster from the start. I don't deny any of that, really. Mistakes were made which have set us back f***ing years now. Not to say we weren't set back years by FS and co anyway due to their overspending. All I'm saying is that we don't know what is happening behind closed doors, we're second guessing and mostly pissing in the wind. But as Obi pointed out, blaming the Fat Man MKII for everything is ridiculous now - hands up all those who thought (myself included) that when the statement was released regarding transfers, etc, we couldn't imagine signing anyone, bar going in for HBA. He's got an investment to protect and he isn't as stupid as we make out. I think. if ashley wants to protect his investment, he should back his manager, something to me he isn't doing at this time Trying to sign this magnificent specimen of a player would suggest that he is, no? Sadly it's in OM's best interests to keep the deal on the back burner now the market has started moving and other potential suitors take the stage.

Can we get the story straight? Ok. There is a question mark over Harpers ambition, though it has benifited us to a degree. There is no doubting that Given, despite years of excellent service, royally fucked us over by demanding a move half way through a very tough season.

Well hopefully. It's Tuesday!

Oh joy! -
Ask Dave. He knows the French.

Okey I think it's been pretty obvious from the start they would prefer a straight sale but Ben Arfa really wants to play in England... Not anymore. He's changed his mind now its getting chilly of an evening.
