God knows. If reports are true, our esteemed chairman has a record of bizarre opening offers, and it seems to tickle him to try his chances... before inevitably paying way over the odds.
-
Not at all, he said himself that it was down to results. Anyway, I still cannot see a difference between Bellamy wanting clarification on his role in the team and Shearer doing the same. That was the only point I was making.
-
That's ok then. A great difference between that and Bellamy also seeking clarification on his place. bluewink.gif i dont recall the manager trying to sell bellamy though, do you? I don't recall Robson trying to actively sell Shearer either. I would have forgiven him had he done so though, right from the start he was aware of Shearers power and at the later stages it was clear that the inability to drop shearer was inhibiting our play. Strangely enough, Robson was dismissed almost immediately after omitting Shearer from the starting XI for a league match. Anyway, here is what Robson had to say regarding Shearer leaving.
-
Amazing how many people backing Bellamy by saying he loved us seem to forget this quote from when we bid for Rooney. .................... when confronted with the possibility of non-guaranteed selection for the 1st team - ie. following Kluivert's arrival, with a Kluivert/Bellamy 1st choice strikepairing on the horizon - didn't Shearer similarly question his own future at the club. Yet Shearer's "love for the club" hasn't been similarly compromised in many a supporter's eyes. Perhaps it's a case "hear no evil, see no evil" where certain individuals are concerned. From nufc.com's Match Reports. Alan Shearer told the Chronicle: "I think it would be great if we signed Rooney. "He will be a fantastic asset and a great investment for this football club. "It would be a great coup for the city and for the club if we can attract him here. "If he is thinking about going abroad to Real Madrid or whatever then he can do that in four or five years time. He is only 18 and he is still effectively learning his trade. "He will only be 22 or 23 in four years time so he's got plenty of time on his side and I think it would be a great step for him." "Obviously it's all up in the air at the moment. Yes he would put my place under threat. It would put everyone under threat. So what? "If he can come in and do well, then great. It's always been the rules of football if someone comes in and does well, you support him and say well done. "We are all in it for this football club and if Rooney comes in and improves us, then we are all for it and I am 100% behind that. "If we can get him it would be brilliant." The comments i refer to, when Shearer in a decidely more eloquent and media friendly manner left a distinct impression that he'd indeed look after his own interests in the event of SBR no longer guaranteeing him regular 1st team football, took place earlier in that particular transfer window ie. around the time of the Kluivert transfer. Somebody will find them although i'm certain they won't be found on dot.cock. "If the manager said to me I wasn't going to be a regular, I'd have to consider things. I want to play as much football as I can in my last season. I think there's a good year left in my legs. I was pleased with passing 20 goals again last season and I hope I do the same, if not better this year." that was around the same time that bobby wanted to sell him to liverpool though (i think) That's ok then. A great difference between that and Bellamy also seeking clarification on his place. bluewink.gif

Right , wont disagree that we were weak, but we didn't loose . Souness would have lost this one . and we would have been lower in the table as well. Stead of whinging bout Europe we'd be falling on our swords now worried about playin in the Cola . For a moment please , look down from where we come. We could be Mackems or some bottom dwellers sweating 15th . I am forever grateful to Shepherd whos firing and hiring has saved us from relegation this season. He can do no wrong now in my eyes. tongue3.gif -

Luque is clearly in the bad books for a reason. I suspect he's been less than commited to Newcastle for a while. Would you take such a risk? What, risk putting on a striker for the last ten minutes in a game we have to win? Christ, I don't give a shit that Roeder might think he has no heart or some such toss, the club comes first. Don't you think I would have prefered three points? I'll give the man the benefit of the doubt. Roeder has pulled the fat out of the fire , I won't act like we been 7th since Dec ffs. Well, I'm glad to see you in such fulsome support for the manager and his fat pulling abilities. I too am gratefull for his role in our recent recovery, but jaysus, I'm not going to let my support for the guy stop me thinking that when we need to score, bringing on Boumsong rather than Luque is a ridiculous decision at best. -

Yes, very disappointing eh. Imagine how much better Souness would have done for us in a match like this. What has criticism of the teams performance got to do with Souness ffs? Because it's people like you with the 'it's the end of the world' attitude that really gets on my tits. I am simply trying to point out that only 8-10 weeks ago we were being dragged down in a relegation battle under the reins of our ex-boss (I daren't mention his name incase it offends). So, in conclusion, it has a lot to do with our previous manager because I am so grateful for Glenn turning things around for us and a draw in our penultimate game ISN'T the end of the world. The fact that we MAY not qualify for Europe ISN'T the end of the world. Keeping someone like Souness in charge and us potentially getting relagated because of it - would have been the end of the world. FFS people, be positive about next season. Get a grip. I cannot see anything in that post that say's that it is 'the end of the world', just that the performance and the chance of Europe next season slipping away is very, very disappointing. Something I cannot disagree with. -

 Yes, I believe Bellamy for instance was more important to the club than Souness. Typical of some Newcastle fans to not see that at the time. The club is the most important thing, and regarding this game, the club needed a goal to help us get into Europe. -

We deserved nothing. Besides a clear Birmingham penalty, bringing on the likes of Clark and Boumsong rather than Luque when we need nothing less than a win is another black mark against Roeder taking over full time imho. -
Maybe if a few more people criticised rather than applaud the gits achievements on the last day of last season, the nightmare of this season might not have happened. Ok, that was tongue in cheek to an extent, but suffice to say he will have a lot to prove to win me over. My support for him and the team at the ground goes without saying, but I will have less patience and will ask more questions of him than a manager who has proved he can do the job (rather than see the relegation of every club he has taken charge of).
-
Ugh, you're right. Any article that claims to speak for 'the fans', boils my balls. Where's me pitchfork. bluewink.gif
-
ditto - Edit-Not too sure about the Shearer bit The Shearer bit is one of the few things since the back end of Robsons reign that has been painfully clear. Robson wasn't up for taking Shearer under his wing, Souness was, Roeder even more so. This appointment would make that the long term plan nailed on for me, and effectively means another two years of treading water until the prodigal son returns.
-
I did not compare him to Souness (that would indeed be nearly as daft as your Mourinho analogy), I compared the warnings messages coming from his previous clubs fans and some peoples willingness to overlook historical precedent. Again. Nor have I seen anyone predict that he would relegate us, that would indeed be as silly as anyone predicting success because he has overseen us having a decent run recently. /:roll:
-
Aye, no one knew Mourinho would be the next Mourinho. If we'd had him as a relative nobody as Academy Director and brought him in to replace Souness temporarily, people would be going SPARE now wanting the big name. Shite analogy like, but you get the drift. Who's to say Roeder can't go onto great things? Certainly not a load of people over-reacting on a message board. Yes it is a shite analogy. Mourinho did not get appointed in similar circumstances by previous clubs and fuck up royally. Lucky/good managers tend not to have recurring tales of inevitable failure. Just a couple of Hammers fans views, There are plenty more where those came from. Kinda reminds you of the Blackburn and Liverpool fans when we appointed Souness. And no doubt some people will laugh them off in a similar manner. bluesigh.gif

We needed a manager we could all get behind from day one. Roeder is not that man. For fucks sake, we should have just poached Mclaren if we are saying 'give someone a chance because they have had a decent (by no means outstanding) run recently'. Roeder finished 2nd bottom of the football league with Gillingham, did well initially with Watford then oversaw their demise just as he did with West Ham, 7th then relegated. Wow, people complain about O'Neill's record and yet are willing to welcome Roeder with open arms? We have had some dreadful games under him, his handling of Luque begs questions, and his wrenching from the academy does little to help the stability of our club which some people put as one of the main reasons to appoint him. What will his backroom staff consist of. Who did he use at Watford and the Hammers? Will Terry Mac remain? Is it just another dead duck, patsy appointment, treading water until the second coming of Shearer?
