With all the work he put in helping develop Clairefontaine I think Houllier would be perfect for the criteria the club have set. I can see him running the club and Shearer taking charge on the training ground everyday, that's if they work together that is. But what about the style of play?! Did you guys not watch Houllier's Liverpool team?! Houllier's Lyon looked brilliant though. no. Le Guen's Lyon looked brilliant and Houllier inherited that. This is what I'm hearing, but that its going to be more of a case of Shearer/Houllier. With those two, surely they'd have a bust up within six months and things would go to hell again. Why would there be? Houllier would take this job in the knowledge he's a babysitter, he's looking after and watching out for Shearer who will one day become manager, neither are going to forget that, and as long as they don't neither will step on each others toes. Its healthy to have their own opinions, its why this will work well imo.

People have got reservations about the football GH would play. Its eased for me slightly when you think what Liverpool's ethos was at the time, winning games was imperative as they tried to catch up Manu. Then winning trophies became paramount and no one was complaining then. When it became a problem was when he fell ill and Thompson took over. They went all out defence, do it for Houllier, and played some of the most boring stuff going. When he came back the mentality was difficult to break, i'm sure he tried a few times to break out, but it ended up kicking him in the teeth, when he did the team would concede, so he stayed defensive. It became catch-22. I really don't think the image painted on him was indeed fair, or all his doing. If given the job here, and told to attack, like at Lyon, then i think that's what he'd happily do, but being able to defend while doing that job. With Shearer alongside him and the Ashley pressure on attacking stylish football, i think he'd have a great time once the messy stuff (this season) is out of the way. I think direction from the board is a must in some ways, a distinct direction that they will stick too, not a scatter gun approach like previous.

The Shearer thing is coming from Anal, with the Houillier camp saying they would be happy to work with him. It's all ifs at the minute. We don't know anymore today than we did yesterday. Have i said it was a done deal? No. All i was pointing out was there was no DOF mentioned since people were talking about it and my original thoughts were that last year which i quoted. I would be fine with that. What bothered me was all this Shearer (on his own) as manager lark. Houllier is a bit of an old codger and his indepth knowledge should top up Shearer's clueless bonce. Its perfect, even the two styles should blend together nicely. The KK/AS combo had a major problem, i just felt there wasn't too much KK could offer to the equation for Shearer, however what KK could do for the fans is unmeasurable. This works a lot better imo.

Houllier for the managers job and Shearer for assistant, no DOF role from what i gather.

See, I am all for the unspectacular rebuilding of the club. But that's what Big Sam would have done eventually!! and look how the fans turned on him. What I'm saying is, if we were a no mark club like Pompey or Boro or what not, then Houllier would definitely be an astute appointment to steady the ship. We're not!! We're f****** Newcastle United! Nothing here is that simple. We're in the media as much as any of the top 4, and more in some cases. We need as much character in the dugout as we can get. It's our only hope. Can you imagine the crisis the media would invent should Houllier's first 10 games be uninspiring? Crisis at the toon and all that s*** from SSN! The mongs amongst us would be out in force against the manager again, and we're back to square one! But with Shearer in there as well, time will be given. Its win win imo. Exactly!!! But only if Shearer is number 1. Only if he's the top dog, with Houllier working in the background. Its more likely Shearer will be assistant according to those reports, but it doesn't really matter, what matters is the package. Shearer will be the most active assistant in the prem in this combo since he's being groomed for the job. Everything Shearer is missing, GH has. This appointment will be legendary imo.

Come on!! You think it's Shearer? Both of them, not sure which way its going to be titled, but it sounds very promising according to sky. Best we could realistically go for imo.
