Apparently the club put up a statement on its twitter account early but its been taken down. It read: A Club statement for the fans regarding the purchase of Newcastle United will be issued later this evening. Few people saying they saw it, with screenshots. In all honesty any club statement right now would be bad for any takeover. If there was one, it will be them stating its off.

Could just have their own man in mind. Mourinho maybe. What I think is that, BZG would probably want a manager that has a chance of instant success. Not to say Rafa couldn't have brought it but because he has always said that Newcastle is a project, perhaps it would have taken a year ot two to win a cup or achieve something major. They might want success quickly to show they are relevant and able to compete. So maybe Mourinho or someone else with history could be their choice. Like i said a couple of weeks ago Rafa may have talked himself out of a job defending the club. New owners to football would have rings run round them by Rafa especially with the huge support from the players and fans. Additionally you never know who has their ear. Ashley was heavily influenced in the early days by his advisers and it will be the same for any new owner coming in to football. If BZG know Mourinho (as that picture showed) from years back and he's currently free then it could very well be possible this is their man waiting in the wings. This is about the only hope (far-fetched, maybe?) I have for the club, when that goes out in 2-3 weeks time so do I. It's all I've got left

Always felt if noises came out of Ashley's camp to speed things up then the sale would fall through. I'd hoped he'd keep quiet until it was done. His recent whinging would suggest it isn't going to happen. Whether its another time waster or he's moved the goalposts I don't know, but i'd expect if it were the latter another comms from the buyer would have been out by now stating as much.

Doesn't seem real. Will hit like a tonne of bricks Monday morning when he puts out a statement to the fans thanking us and wishing us well, then 24 hours later when he's in talks with another club.

Just a thought going back to the press theory that Kenyon is Ashley's preferred bidder (as he can keep some stake and advertising at the ground) and why this is taking so long. We it can't be as Kenyon, who's group doesn't have a pot to piss in would be relying on Rafa being there, without him the club is a huge gamble even at a reduced fee. If Kenyon has a party and has made a bid then what he's getting now is worth far less than what he was getting a few weeks ago. BZG that doesn't apply, they will (hopefully) have the funds to bring in a manager of their own or even Rafa back, Kenyon will be penny pinching and their offer to a manger wouldn't be a kick in the arse off what Ashley put on the table this summer due to lack of funds securing the club.

Always had a feeling they may not want Rafa at the club. Guy had too much sway with the fans and players and would run rings round new (to football) owners, especially if they didn't give him what he wanted. Suppose the real test of that theory is if we see a new manager come through the door in the next couple of weeks. If so there isn't a takeover and it isn't happening. If we're in the same position in 3-4 weeks then its possible there is still something in it. Another thought is this could be Ashley moving things along. No more limbo: I need to sell the club now or makes plans with a new manager as currently i don't have one. The club is on a knife-edge, one step the wrong way and it falls in to the abyss and there isn't enough good will around from the fans to rescue it.

If that happens i'm walking away from football completely. It's been a tough decision but one which has been coming. I'll remove it completely from my life (FM, here, Pub, games, Sky, any merchandise) and probably be so much better off. I'd be time rich at the very least. I'm in the last chance saloon.
