  2. Thinking about Jonas, he does have some good attributes like his work rate, stamina, his ability to hold onto the ball and his short range passing, but others such as his crossing and shooting and creativity are woeful. Those three woeful attributes are broadly areas where you'd expect a winger to be good. However the attributes he does have are abilities we want our current central midfielders to have. Could he play central midfield, perhaps allowing Ben Arfa in a left sided free role and Jonas could then offer good defensive support down that wing when Ben Arfa goes wondering?
  3. No Jonas or Routledge? How Everton play with midfielders running into the box I think we are best lining up with a defence minded midfield. They might not be the best, but give them a tracking back job and they will do it without question. Then let Ben Arfa provide the width in a free role, Nolan is needed because we can't have Carroll as the only goal threat, there has to be a secondary threat.
  4. We lost at home to Blackpool therefore the team must change. Krul Taylor Williamson Coloccini Enrique Tiote Barton Smith Nolan Carroll Ben Arfa But if Carroll needs a couple of weeks to let his ankle fully recover, play Shola.

Probably about the same, but Simpson is a specialist right back. I don't think Perch has specialised in any position, therefore while he could be ok all round defensive cover, he'll have some deficiency wherever he plays.

Is Bonnart still without a club? Irrelevant, we can't play anyone over 21 until January

Diego Swarfega. We signed him from Domes Tos.
  9. So Hughton has signed Ben Arfa as a lefty who can also play in other positions.
  10. Think Harper decided to host a charity event at SJP for his ten years. So did Given. Reckon Shola will do likewise.
  11. What does that say ? I don't know. My post was a sumarry of what was in the Chronicle and the Journal.

We transferred him to a Valencia board when Kluivert went. Undisclosed fee. But what did he do when Kluivert retired? Retired from football message board posting and moved into a one bedroom flat with Kluivert. Does Kluivert know about this?

    Hatem Ben Arfa

We don't really spend too much time doing public stuff with our new players so no new pics or anything. We release training pictures on the official website most Fridays during gameweeks, I'm sure he'll be in one this week
  16. Our former chairman Denis Cassidy is releasing a book. In it he claims that he was the one who told Shepherd and Doug to leave after Toongate. Cassidy later became non-executive chairman but was forced out soon afterwards by the return of Shepherd and Doug. A few years later, Cassidy claims he was approached by Sir Bobby Robson who in a six hour meeting intimated that Shepherd and the Halls wanted rid. Keegan's departure happenned at a time Cassidy was in Australia, and he found out about it on the news. He expected the resignation to be John Major. Shepherd has the following to say: The book ends with an open letter to Mike Ashley.

  18. Lawro on 5Live last night: "Rooney was 4/1 First Scorer. If he had a spare £1200 he could have put a bet on it."

This club needs a competitive culture where no-one is guaranteed a place, but if you are in form, you play. Nolan is in form, he plays. It is destructive to team morale to drop one of the best performers because it sends a message that good performances don't get rewarded, and this will mean an increase in complacency. Nolan has so far this season, and last season shown himself to be a very penetrative player who moves very well in andaround the penalty area with good technique and can find team mates in narrow spaces or put a good effort on goal himself. His movement will drag away players that would otherwise be doubling up on Carroll. These attributes make him a good partner for Carroll, plus he can fill up the midfield in defensive situations. Meanwhile I don't think Ben Arfa fits the creative midfielder tag that people are giving him. His career at two league winning clubs is not littered with goals and assists. He seems moreof an explosive player, and while these types of players can benefit our team much like Dyer did at his prime, we are still going to have to rely on Carroll, Nolan and Barton to do the stuff that is important for us to get results. Therefore I think that if he is committed, his explosiveness on the wings in a slightly free role will get the best out of his more penetrative team mates. I would say Ben Arfa for Jonas would eventually be the most effective and balanced swap.

The treatment the in-form Nolan is getting on this forum is quite sad to be honest.

    U23s & Academy

Wouldn't say they had really. I'd say Ramos, Xavi, Iniesta and Villa are examples of much more physically adept players than Spain would have seen in past years, and this was crucial to their success.

Spain had been technique based for years without success, but how did they suddenly start improving their physique?
  23. Thanks Chris, well explained
  24. Or if it didn't actually happen, and you match the description of the family in question people are going to talk. He really deserves a banning for this.
  25. It seems we're both called Chris, and frankly I honestly can't. One has Chris in his name, the other names himself after an erection.
