I think there is a case to say that the football leagues should become involved with the likes of Carroll and Barton to develop punishments that are equal for all clubs and all players without the worry that other clubs may take a softer line, or take advantage by signing players you've sacked.

There must be ways to punish players for their demeanours that actually mean something, stop it happenning again, and act as a deterrent to future players, while not removing good players from the team. Obviously we'd prefer to be in the Champions League ourselves due to the money and the prestige, but which tournament is more of a spectacle? I prefer the UEFA Cup personally, more attacking games, worser defences, random teams, random moments and hard to predict.
