  1. Bobby Robson Englands World Cup 90 Squad Englands Euro 96 Squad. Perhaps this is where we've gone wrong since, too much positive hype of England in the media in the build up. What if instead of fawning over Beckham's metertarsal in 2002, the media questioned his place in the squad from day one, would it have had a better effect?

If that happenned, half the clubs in the PL would be deliberately trying to get relegated.

Promote from within where possible Sounds like the public sector. But the important thing is who decides when and where it is and isn't possible? Would the board ever step in to tell the manager that they have to play a youth player?

I think this financial stability plan is a gamble by Ashley. Gambling on the collapse of Liverpool and Man Utd and avoiding the fallout by breaking even. The alternative is to invest a huge chunk on midtable mediocrity. As a fan, I'd prefer the latter myself.
  6. Don't panic, Hughton will probably get the increased TV money.

There will be money for the manager to spend, just it will be the TV money, which although is increasing hugely next season, will be the same as what the other clubs have. The challenge is for the manager to get a good performance:£ ratio. All in all though, a lot of worrying stuff in there.
  8. Oh yeah, first of all he's not 2nd choice, secondly he will never play a world cup match and thirdly he's absolutely s****. Not even first choice in FC Copenhagen. Most clubs have a third choice keeper they never intend to play just so the club have a steady reserve team keeper so the outfield players don't have to worry too much. see Tony Caig, or recently Nielsen at Man City.
  9. circa 1998 Scholes pisses on Gerrard and Lampard at all levels.
  10. Why get worked up on something that hasn't happenned yet? Capello is his own man so I don't know how the press would know. Chances are that Carragher has unretired himself and his entourage are just trying to get the message across.
  11. He'd lost it by then though hadn't he and played his last gamein 91. 86 always seemed to be his peak. So, what you saying? You can choose any player who's played for England since you've been born but they would only play at the level they were at when you were alive? Weird. Your lifetime generally means players that you lived to see. Was QBG around to see Robson in his pomp? No. Neither was I
  12. My Dad lives over two miles away and the other side of a hill from Exeter City's Stadium but could hear the crowd celebrating their winner. Not bad for 10-12 thousand

  14. In comparison yes but we still have a lot of technically gifted players in the squad these days. Only Ferdinand, the Coles, Beckham and Rooney stand up in comparison. Lampard is technically very good at playing the ball, but below the level you'd expect at bringing it under control and that will cost England again probably as it has done in the past.
  15. Lolz. In all seriosness, we've had some seriously shit England teams inbetween some golden years. Nigel Clough Geoff Thomas Carlton Palmer Neil Webb John Terry
  16. Robson definitely shouldn't be in a post 1990 team. Possibly not Lineker or Shilton either depending on the month of your birth.
  17. Not really to be honest. Promise, but no fulfilment.
  18. To be honest, I've just been watching clips from Euro 96 and Italia 90 and realising how shit the current England team is technically in comparison.
  19. What in your opinion is the best England XI made out of players that played in your lifetime? So for instance I was born in 1985, so: Seaman Neville Walker Ferdinand Cole Beckham Scholes Gascoigne Beardsley Shearer Rooney Would win the World Cup that team especially with Robson as manager.
  20. Exeter survive out of a totally doomed situation. Apparently have 12,000 fans in a 10,000 capacity stadium. Gillingham down.

  22. His retirement wasn't as bad as Andrew Cole's
  23. Nope. Good, never liked away goals, especially when scored in extra time.
  24. Al-Fayed has retired...as Harrod's owner Harrods sold for £1.5bn Could be good for Fulham
