  1. Inspired by the Inter game thread, it has often been discussed as to what the best ever Newcastle goal is, but what about the biggest? Several things can make a goal big - it could affect the fortunes of a club, it could be scored on a big occassion with the world watching, it could be a personal landmark for a great player. So what is the Biggest Newcastle goal of all time and why? I'll turn this thread into a poll tommorrow after people have had a chance to make suggestions.
  2. even if he says the right things you'd say "all talk, just words, he needs to do it on the pitch" quite bitter about him aren't you ? Bitter? No. Pissed off that he has been a waste of £17 million and £100 grand each week to every one of us who puts their hand in their pocket to support Newcastle United, and who are at this minute feeling s*** scared that we could go down? Yes. I couldn't give a flying whatsit whether Michael Owen plays for England ever again, but I do care that he seems to not be able to motivate the team that he is captain of, and that he has looked completely diinterested in this club since his comeback at Reading last year. I have to say I've been quite impressed by his conduct since he became captain. I'm not saying he's the best captain out there, but I think he's showing that he does care at the minute. Not being sarcastic(as I realise that this might come across this way) but how? I watch the bloke and he looks like he would rather be anywhere else than playing for us most weeks. I think you, and many, only see that because it's what you're looking for. Big money paid, high wages, huge name, bigger than the club really - it seems to be what people want to see. I remember watching him all game coming back trying to get the ball and make something happen, come on here and people are complaining he was standing up doing nothing, when i knew for a fact that was complete rubbish. People here want him to fail. Bullshit, I would love to see Owen get in there are score goals, but I have seen him play, home and away, and he is not capable of providing what we need, which is goals. He neither scores them regularly or makes assists, and as an attacking forward player that is what he should be doing. Can't say I can think of many players who have scored or created more than Owen this season.
  3. The midfield, and Bellamy defending from the front (or was Bellamy suspended for that one?)
  4. Have you even read that article, or just the title? Only if you had read it, he clearly says that you only play for England if you play well for your club.
  5. I'd agree that the semi has increased our chances of getting the points there, but Birmingham could also find a Lord Mayor's show there on Wednesday night, Wigan might turn out against Nugent, and other games in which our rivals feature vs Portsmouth may have a friendly atmosphere against a Pompey side with increased fixture congestion.
  6. Barnsley vs Cardiff Portsmouth vs West Brom Typical of Portsmouth to get the difficult semi, means Wigan have a good chance of 3 points against them.
  7. The FA Cup might have presented the Premiership relegation battle with some unexpected side effects. Portsmouth play us and four of our rivals, and these games all immediately follow or preceed key FA Cup fixtures for Portsmouth. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/portsmouth/fixtures/default.stm The West Ham game will get moved for the semi, and we are the game immediately after the semi. Just to make things more difficult for us, the West Ham game will likely be moved to a midweek and give one of our rivals a fitness advantage. Otherwise, you don't know how the Portsmouth players will react - they could play every league game like a Friendly, or they could all be very confident and determined to win their place in the Final assuming they get there. Worst case scenario is that they switch between the two, and come out all guns blazing against us, and uncompetitive against our rivals.
  8. Optimistic. We'll stay up, get rid of a lot of people and build a better team worth supporting. Or we'll go down, get rid of a lot of people, then come straight back up with a team worth supporting.
  9. Use the scouting network to find younger players who can do well in the Championship and develop into good Championship players. The first thing we should do is tap up Scott Sinclair. Even though we were in the Championship, I'd be happy to pay up to £10m for him.
  10. Why do you think that? I think that as well because:
  11. Yes, but maybe a couple points better by playing the players for his system.

    What's with all this pettiness?

Woodgate could regret leaving Middlesbrough so that he could have his cup final glory. One uncle has a Bristol Rovers season ticket, the other has a West Brom season ticket. I'll need to start butterring one of them up after tomorrow.

Just to put it in writing, the teams that could win the FA Cup are: Portsmouth Middlesbrough West Brom Cardiff Bristol Rovers Barnsley Lucky bastards, the fans of one of those teams
  16. This thread has a few thoughts on this issue (not suggesting a merge BTW): http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=50613.0
  17. Leeds II wont happen because the club's debt is £0.
  18. Martins Geremi We did better than West Ham midweek are the only positives from the game, and all very meh positives.
  19. As I could be doing an MSc at Newcastle next season, I'm hoping people don't (regardless of whether we are relegated or not) so that I can get one.
  20. 9 games left 4 are six-pointers. We can win them if we match our performance vs Blackburn. Of our three remaining trips down south, it is possible to nick a win at two of them, as other clubs have shown. Of our final two games, our opponents will have either nothing to play for or everything to play for, and the result is dependent on who has to play for what. The hope is that by then, one of the participants in both games have secured their objectives. The points we need are still there for the taking, but we have to have them over the next 7 games.
  21. Geremi doing what Geremi does best - getting our attacking players on the ball in attacking positions.
  22. We've looked much better since Martins has come on and Geremi has moved into the centre.
  23. For those that want a description of the Martins goal, it was a forty yard powerful half volleyed bending lob on the turn.
  24. Definitely his fault like. Ignore the consistent onslaught due to our midfield and forward players being unable to pass a football to each other without shitting themselves when they get it. 99 times out of 100, that ball goes out for a goal kick. Enrique has been run ragged by Pennant, Gerrard and Torres being allowed to attack in his zone, but it is the fault of what is in front of him.
