My apologies. I meant to say unless rather than if. As it stands, todays Sunday Sun are confirming that representatives from the club have contacted them advising no capital outlay as no money being sopent this summer so whether we have to sell as to buy seems to be in the lap of the gods unless Malcolm McDonald is right when he believes it is all just a smokescreen.

If anyone rewally believes that Hughton doesnt have the respect of the players, then they have obviously missed thelast 12 months or so. In my opinion, Hughton has been the one major shining light in this whole ridiculous situatioin we have found ourselves in since the Keegan affair, and I include Shearer in this assessment. Hughtoin has taken a bunch of under achieving misfits, discarded those lacking in desire and moulded a team determined to right many wrongs from the relegation season. He has achieved much much more than anyone expected from him and for that alone, deserves the respect of all concerned. His manner is one of a quiet achiever, much in the same way Roy Hodgson has managed at Fulham. He is not the hair dryer throwing cups at players the likes of Ferguson, the constant whinging of Wenger or the money hungry Redknapp but to me, I think considering the circumstances of the club, Hughton should be Manager of the Year for what he has achieved. There is no doubting he has the respect of the players judging by his reception on achieving promotion and the fact that he is able to use senior players as a consultative committee is not a sign of weakness at all, but astute player management. Belive you me, if players show the interest and desire to offer ideas that can ultimately increase pwerformance and resulkts, then a good manager will take those ideas on board and apportion credit where it is due.. Hughton has shown this in the past and far from being a weakness, it is a strrengthof character to be able tthe results required by using all good information available.

Plenty of Ifs and buts about this rumour but if it is true and Taylor is holding the club to ransom, contract extension wise and if more clubs than Arsenal are interested, then start the bidding off at 5million and see how far we can get. For example: Arsenal can give us the cash and throw in Senderos who is out of contract, I think. Everton can give us cash and throw in Yobo Villa can give us cash and throw in Davies with the extra cash plus a defender, we can buy, with any additional cash gained from the deal ,in signing Onouha from City or O'Hara from Spurs etc etc etc.
-
Only one year left on his contract so we wont get anywhere near what he is worth, if we decide to sell. 5 million sounds about right.
-
Should sign her off Corrie as well Who? Samia Smith?...........We already have one of them in the centre of midfield.
-
Stalking me again, Ronaldo...........Oh stop it...........................LMAO Still fighting for your country, are you?

No he can't his price is £5m as Fulham have already found out. Which is their top prioce for him. As the transfer deadline gets closer, that fee will reduce because they need the money and would have to replace him. You got Bristol Citys accounts handy to back up this need to sell? Yet another stupid smart arse remark from you that only displays your own deficiencies in entering a discussion sensibly. If you cant say anything sensible, say nothing at all. OK?
-
he'd cost more than that. Not much more. I have seen 3.5 m million quoted and for that, I think he would be an acceptable risk. Do you see much of him & Bristol City from the other side of the world? We get a couple of live CCC games each week on our Foxtel service over here and I have seen several BC games this season, the last one being against Blackpool where Maynard scored an absolute cracker.

I think it's more about having squad depth. Vukic isn't ready for 38 games in the Premiership, and neither is Cleverley. But together they can share the demand. Fair point But do we need them both?
-
he'd cost more than that. Why? Hooper is a much better player and he's gonna go for between £2m and £2.5m As if thats how football works man Bristol City turned down £5m because they dont need to sell. From who? Any club the size of BC would have difficulty in standing in the way of a young player who wants to better himself at a higher level. If an offer was placed, then BC would have to look at selling to ensuire long term survival. It is the nature of thebeast at that level.

You have hit the nail on the head here. Circumstances were to blame for KDs situation here but hindsight is a great thing. If Shearer hadnt got injured. If we hadnt agreed to sell Ferdinand, etc etc etc. The facts remain that Dalglish was very unluicky. I doubt any club would have passsed up the oppoertunity to sell a 31 year old striker for 6 million pound. I also thought Tino had gone right off the boil as well and to almost get back what we paid for him was good business. Dalglish bought some great players who were to serve us so well over the years such as Speed, Given and Nobby but I felt that he, as well as Keegan, failed to address the most critical part of the team in buying a couple of quality defenders which would have taken us to the next level. I remember Keegan admitting the year he left the club that the only out and out defender we had at the club was Darren Peacock., You dont win titles or cups with that. Keegan's biggest mistake was buying Tino. We didnt need him. Batty was a good buy but we needed a strong defender for the money spent on Tino. If either KK or KD had bought a qyuality defender or two, we would have won the league in 95 and 96 by a landslide,

TBH A better option is Maynard from Bristol City, who is quicker, better all round player, younger and has a better re-sal;e value, if that is what Ashley is looking at and he can be bought for 3 million quid and half the wages we would have to pay Boyd.
-
My main concern is that Cleverley appaears to be an attacking central midfielder, judging by his goals tally at Watford last season which seems similar to a role Vukic seems to occupy at NUFC. We also currently have the likes of Nolan, Barton and Guthrie who are also classed as central midfielders who will mosty likely be uppermost in CHs mind to play. I would have thought we have more important positions to fill in the side first with cover required for both full back and wing positions as well as a goalscoring forward of the smaller variety before we start to look at kids from other clubs academies where there is no `chance of signing permanently, such as Wilshire and Cleverley. Ashley seems keen to develop our own so lets do it rather than developing others clubs kids for them.
-
Cleverley is an excellent player but realistically, what is the point of giving him game time when all it is doing is holding up our own youngsters like Vukic. I have not seen much of Vukic but I have read that some top teams are interested in him. Is it worth the risk in losing a top talent at our club for the sake of moulding a top talent from a rival club knowing there isnt any chance of siging that player permanently?
-
Apparently, Smith and his backroom staff have agreed contract extensions which means Boyd is happy to stay. Also, Rangers are about to get new owners so the uncertainty surrounding the future of the club seems to be diminishing. Like many on here, I think he will be a liability due to his lack of pace, movement even though he has a knack of scoring goals against mediocre opposition. So, even if he does change his mind and leave Rangers, I hope it isnt to us. Someone mentioned taking a chance on him and he might turn out to be a McCoist. If I remember rightly, McCoist was a failure at the makems and only made a name for himself in Scotland. I feel Boyd is similar and we need better, mobile and nippier forwards now.
-
but you said the powers that be. Regardless, the lad is still at the club and should be supported, not vilified by most on here. There again, some on here might prefer an injury prone Viduka instead.

Madras I dont think Chris Hughton was manager of the club at the time.

In your opinion. So, how are you going to prove it then? Would imagine by pointing out all have scored well in excess of 42 top flight goals in their careers is a decent starting point As a good starting point, how are they all faring NOW? My point is which seems to have escaped you is that, next season, IMO, I dont think any of those players listed above will perform any better than Shola can for us. Most of them are not even wanted by their respective clubs anyway. Furthermore, for the majority of their careers in the PL, the likes of Yakubu, Beattie, Roberts etc have b een first choice for their respective c;lubs, something which Ameobi clearly has not b een. Yet, he has still scored goals regularly when started. However, I wouldnt expect you to agree so it is pointless discussing the matter further. The point you clearly missed is the definition of STARTING POINT. DOnt begin to assume you have any clue what i have/have not missed Personally Roberts aside ALL would be better than Shola this season for us. In fact its not even a difficult choice imo. I will assume what I believe is right, regardless of your assumptions. Suffice to say, the powers to be regard Shola valuable enough to keep and I would certainly rely on their superior knowledge of the player ahead of your viewpoints.
-
I would certainly not class Harewood better than Shola. Cast your mind back to the beginning of last season, Shola was on fire until he was injured. When Harewood arrived, he failed to score in his first half a dozen games and onlly ended up with 5 in 15. Most people on here were howling to get rid.

According to the Sun, WBA bid 2 million for Beattie from Stoke and 4 million for Hunt from Hull

It is a misquote. Wendy Taylor is NOT Head of Media. She apparently Gives the Media Head
