  1. It may have carried the slightest bit of credibility if he wasn't the best central defender the club has had in donkeys years.
  2. Bruce has been totally shafted. Bent was still their key player and this will be like a torpedo right through their future plans. The money won't mean much in an inflated market where quality players will be even more reluctant to go to Sunderland after this debacle.
  3. Nice post, sounds like you had some day ! Love the bit about Carroll
  4. Doubt it, bid accepted and in Birmingham now, much further down the line than Rooney or Tevez Thanks, stand corrected. Stand by rest of post after 1st line though.
  5. He'll end up being Time Magazine's man of the year the way things are going. Well the Sunderland Echo's anyway.
  6. It may be that he doesn't go in this window and some PR face saving statement will be made before he departs in the summer. However the seeds have been sown and his failure to see it through on Wearside will cast doubts in some of the other players minds as well as being a significant deterent for anyone else they try to bring in. Not looking good for their future plans right now.
  7. Until recently Bent basically was Sunderland when it comes to scoring goals. Gyan and Welbeck are doing ok at the moment, but that's a pretty short spell to come to the decision that they don't need Bent all of a sudden. He is a selfish player, but its certainly the good kind IMO, he scores more goals then anyone else, at least over the last couple of seasons. If Gyan succeeds in the PL - and it's still a big IF - he'll want to move to a bigger more glamorous club, it's a problem Sunderland will always have - it will never be a desirable option for good players. It's also unlikely that Man U will peddle Welbeck so it looks very much that Bent forced this upon Sunderland and they have little choice in the matter. Rumour has it that they still owe a fair wedge on Bent so a big replacement will not be a given. Also anyone with common sense (and I'd include D.Bent) realises their results this season have flattered them and talk about 6th place fom "big it up Brucie" is not really sustainable.
  8. "Wear - Tyne"? They're very fussy about things like that. Quite an inferiority complex. I'm sure you get the same from that little club next to you who play in blue ?
  9. Sunderland isn't exactly cosmopolitan as Darren Bent's mum found out. It would be even better if they spend the money on N'Zogbia who'll be ready to leave before his suitcase is unpacked. Just replied with something similar. Would love to see them sign Insomnia - he'd need a place on Tyneside and he wasn't even liked when he played for US
  10. For any high living pro footballer, especially as in his case coming from the capital, a move to Sunderland must be very carefully considered. To enjoy any quality of life for you and your family, you are going to have to reside in "enemy" territory and at times that must be quite difficult. The town the football club is based in will always hold them back.
  11. They normally have to any way. Sunderland is not an attractive proposition for someone with real options. They have to up the money to get the deal.
  12. Very good business for the macums at prices mentioned. No wonder Bruce was so ecstatic after their scabby equaliser yesterday, imagine having to announce this the day after we'd beaten them !

    Pitch invasions

If true, no doubt stage managed clap trap to deflect from the big problem they have with crowd control. The real issue is not the specifics of the 17 year old who got on the pitch to attack Harper but the problem they have in general with crowd control, weapons inside the stadium etc.
  14. Absolute baloney from Bruce, as usual, saying "well done" to Sunderland fans. It just happens too often at the SoL Steve you're just trying your best to deflect attention from a very serious problem. Sunderland web forums were full of threats last week, encouraging people to smuggle weapons into the ground, attack opposition fans and even go on the pitch to attack players and sadly that's just what happened. Once again. Last night there were many of them congratulating the actions of the 17 year old who attacked Harper. Time for a very clear statement from the FA, but don't hold your breath waiting for one from Saint Niall or SAFC.
  15. Full intervie http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2011/01/14/kevin-nolan-not-worried-about-wear-tyne-derby-61634-27983824/#ixzz1BIFOW2NY Touch of class that imo. A top geezer and worthy of captaining a club who are playing with a lot of pride in the shirt.

  17. From the True Faith match report. "The build up to this game was weird because I was amazed how confident they were in phone in’s and print. Even their manager Susan Boyle was spouting bollocks in the press on Thursday about what song he was going to play after they beat us! Sometimes people need to remember that it’s a long way down from such a lofty perch - they had done the same thing in the run up to the game at SJP and we all know how that turned out" "Susan fukkin Boyle" - class ;D
  18. Opinions, I guess will always differ. I thought he was superb yesterday, worked like a horse and was very clever for our goal. The two clear chances he had should have hit the target but in fairness he didn't do a lot wrong as both scraped the woodwork. Poor Shola - runs himself into the ground for the team but gets remembered for the things he did wrong rather that the vast majority he did excellently.

    Pitch invasions

Sunderland definitely have crowd control problems inside their stadium as illustrated by the frequency of pitch invasions. Their management and chairman tend bury their heads in the sand and Bruce was very quick to blurt the party line yesterday. The notion of "fair minded supporters" handing over the culprits is absolute poppycock. It was a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the seriousness of the situation. Surprised the BBC or anyone else bought into that rubbish.
  20. Best one yet ! - Ivor Biggun "I'm a wanker" that is.
  21. Could well have been written last week about the Sunderland game and we dominated that match and were unlucky not to win. Granted Spurs have a lot more quality than Sunderland and it will be a very difficult game, but if we get the atmosphere going in the stadium and show the same kind of discipline as yesterday we could get something. One thing for sure this present day Newcastle United will show great spirit and fight for everything.
  22. I hope Saint Niall will be issuing a public apology to the Geordie nation this time for the daylight robbery his team commited.
