If people want to blame someone, it should start with Carroll's agent. This is roughly how the whole thing probably played out and the agent was probably pushing each step to conclusion. I mean, he probably got a cracking fee from Liverpool. He also engineered the the 6th (?!!!!!) largest transfer fee to date (for a high potential but largely unproven player). Not only does the agent get some cash in his pocket and a big ego boost if he facilitated this whole scenario I suspect he'll add some heavy hitters to his client list. See, this could be bad for three out of the four parties. NUFC get what could have been a local legend pulled out from under them. Liverpool spunk big money on what could be a spectacular flop for the money and the player goes to a club still in trouble with the burden of a huge transfer fee over his head. The only one who definitely comes out good is the agent. Maybe it works out for all four parties. Still, the only sure bet for a happy ending is the agent. You speak sense.

Like who? No point trying to predict it any more, I doubt any of them really give a f*** deep down. Sure they're all professionals at the end of the day, but I do not think that does justice to some of the excellent pros we have at the club nowadays.

We need to and we will spend in the summer, but lets not get lost in figures it's the quality of the players that will count, not just their fees and therefore good scouting will be just as important as having loads of money to spend.

He's an awsome player, but if this injury takes even a little from his ability to jump - and it could - then he will never be the same player. Not that I'm saying I know more than the Anfield medical staff or anything but Liverpool did appear to be in panic mode yesterday.

Who :- Is absoulutely sick that the best thing we've produced since Gazza has left the club. Thinks the club could have kept him if they'd really wanted to. Because it was made clear that he wasn't as much wanted as the £35M. don't forget the extra £50k per week aswell. And probably a bung to match the Liverpool sweetener and then of course his agent would want his slice of the action whichever way it went. In total Dekka and Ashley were probably looking at a £50M to keep him on the books.

If we are to offer new contracts every 2 months to players, then every player in the squad will want the same. Carroll was probably a "special" case, but you're right it would have set a real bad precedent and caused a lot of problems down the line.

I kind of fear the same, until you can compete with the top 4 financially you'll always be worried that any player's startling progress will inevitably lead to him moving. That unfortunately is the reality of where we are today. Fortunately we do have some very good players at the club, despite the current wailing we are not a one man team and if we had given in to his demands as soon as another club came after him, it would have had more serious and longer term implications for the morale of the team than his departure will have. ..and are these 'very good players' going to stay at a club that sells its best young players when other clubs dangle big bucks in front of them ?? See what happens with Enrique in summer.. Dunno mate. All I know is they won't be here forever and the better they are the harder they'll be to keep. Real question is how well placed we will be scouting wise and financially to keep/replace them.

You are gullible. Pardews version of events seems completely plausible It's certainly from the "horse's mouth" and not just smoke and mirrors, a bit if innuendo and some alleged text messaging.

This whole episode is symptomatic of football's money malaise and take your pick about who's to blame from Chelsea's fee for Torres to the clubs or the player himself. Carroll will have had his agent alongside him from start to finish, "advising" him like some hungry car salesman and he seems to be getting off pretty scot-free when "blame" is being apportioned. Who is his agent anyway ?

Did Shearer ever get things right? Well he did want rid of Colocinni and Barton, who have both arguably been performing better than Carroll this season.

Pointless being obsessed with figures, trophy signings net spends or whatever just to be seen to balance the transfer comings and goings. Whether they spend £5M, £35M or £350M the real essential is the quality of the signing and how they fit in - not necessarily the price paid. We'll have the usual clamour for instant big signings, but good, savvy scouting will be a better way forward and it may just be that what happened to the club's finances yesterday will preserve and strengthen us longer term. I'm sure Tottenham fans were probably crying in the same way two years ago when Berbatov (probably bigger for them than Carroll was for us) deserted for Man U. They actually got a whole lot better after he left.

It's hard to take but as a veteran Supermac's departure to Arsenal, life does go on.

His agent, who let's face it is the person who really made this happen, seems to be getting off very lightly in the vitriol stakes.
