  1. he had a chance to rectify his mistakes when he appointed KK again but didn't support him. I imagine quite a lot of people have supported Newcastle for many years, watch them every game home and away, and aren't about to stop So what mistakes had he made before appointing Keegan? what planet do you come from ? So you can't think of any, then? malandro listed some. Paying big wages and moaning about it later too. What do you think of him losing KK and what do you think of the quality of our recent signings, on long contracts Ashley's first big mistake was appointing Keegan manager. Recent signings weren't bad at all, given the circs, and none of them are on particularly long contracts. Allows them a chance in the PL, with a two years left on the contract if we want to sell them on at that point. No, Ashleys mistake was not in appointing Keegan, but in the shameful, deceitful way he treated him. How can anyone trust him or believe a word he says after that? I'd say Keegan was the one who it's difficult to trust. It's interesting that there doesn't seem to have been a stampede for his managerial services, since he left. Legendary player and great manager but I agree just a bit too "sugary sweet nice" to fully trust. Always loved wooing the masses with his emotional England/Scouser/Geordie thing but ultimately proved that like the rest of them he was only in it for himself and the money. You big cynic. What happened? Were you let down and hurt in the past? :'( You must love that thread the way you keep dragging it up, and usually quote bits out of context or miss a question mark or something to suit your purposes. Have you got it pinned up on your wall ? You really are a sad f*ck Kenneth. BTW that post was written to be controversial and stimulate debate, and although I can't remember what I actually wrote (I'm sure you'll be able to remind me) I seem to remember saying Ashley was the only owner/chairman in my time who had put money into the club rather than taking it out. Westwood was the first chairman I remember and a deeply unpopular one at that, Seymour, McKeag etc theresafter, SJH was probably the pick of the bunch - but lo and behold he went and facilitated the sell out to Ashley whom he thought was the right man to take Newcastle forward.

Keegan walked away with less than Allardyce or Souness. Of course he wanted the money but he took the club to arbitration (and won) to clear his name of ridiculous notions like those you and Cronky perpetuate despite the facts. Sorry for yawning when I read this. Why don't you just assasinate Ashley or something and give us all a rest.
  3. Fantastic! Build on that next year and we should get promoted. Should also have all those who were predicting our demise and relegation before a ball was kicked this season in absolute raptures. (Or possibly tears ?) There again aren't they the same people who are predicting relegation from the PL next season, again before a ball is kicked and before we've even been promoted ? Mind I have to admit I expected little more than a season of consolidation with a possible play-off place at best, given the pre season turmoil. Yeah, me too. After the previous two relegations, getting promoted was a long and difficult haul over several seasons. With the state of the club last summer, I thought that we were in for a similar battle. I'd say - a) The gap between the Championship and the top division is now much bigger than in the past. b) Finally, and for the first time at the club since the early days of Sir Bob's reign, unity broke out behind the scenes. On point a) I think the Championship (2nd league) is better than the last time but the top division is so much better again, so yes the gap is bigger. On point b) that is what I have enjoyed so much this season - watching a side giving 100% and playing with great team spirit whatever the circumstances and that has led to individuals performing at a level way above what we expected (e.g. Andy Carroll)

  6. From his game and onwards he has just looked nervous and lacking in confidence, possibly completely overawed by his new surroundings. He desperately needs a goal to settle his nerves. No world beater, but nowhere near as bad as some are calling him on here. Like any striker he'll struggle until he notches a couple and then he'll be much more relaxed and look a better player.
  7. Say's all you need to know about the media really- just a bunch of s*** stirring individuals who are too lazy to find out what's really happening.
  8. Probably the funniest post in the history of the internet :- "Over the moon because he's not fit to wear the shirt" ;D
  9. I think after last nights results and bearing in mind the opposition he will not take any chances on anyone not being 100% fit even if it means drafting in reserves and playing out of position. If Forest were still breathing down our necks he'd probably be more inclined to risk one or two players.
  10. In principle a practical, well run and independent supporters organisation is a great idea and one which would be welcomed by most fans. Sadly NUST can not be that organisation as they lack credibility after a series of ill concieved campaigns which have led us up the garden path and alienated most fans. They have lied, just like the people they accuse of lying and despise so much. They have also, crucially, tried to stick the knife into the present ownership, making statements which border on libellous, ruining any chance of a working relationship and meaning they can never provide a role as a liason group which would be so important for any fan organisation. Fans' representative organisation - great idea - but the present brand is so tainted it needs to be flushed out and completely re-branded if it's ever going to work.
  11. IF we go up, whenever that may be, I hope the players and management get the reception they deserve for a very professional job well done. However there's not going to be the celebrations of previous promotion days because this time it's regarded as "we're just going back to where we should never have been relegated from" whereas before we felt like a 2nd tier club on the up. This team have probably had it tougher that previous promotion teams as they have had to cope with a lot going on in the background but they've kept their heads down, battled very well and deserve a great ovation.
  12. I think another myth is that they play better football than us. They play a different style of football and one that is probably more pleasing to the eye away from home, but not necessarily better. They are also the dirtiest team I've seen this season and seem to be experts in conning referees. How Olsson ever stays on a pitch for 90 minutes is amazing.
  13. Now that there are 2 or 3 rabid anti Ashley posters in this thread, I'd like to pose something to them. It's really easy to abuse and criticise but it takes knowledge and intelligence to criticise constructively. I'm sure you have both of those things so what do you really want for a post-Ashley Newcastle United ? Do you see Mark Jensen and the NUST bunch running the club ? Do you think there may be an Abramovic or rich Arab prince willing to take us on in the present economic climate? Is there a willing local businessman out there - preferably not like the previous whore mongers who paid themselves small fortunes and abused those who ploughed the money in. Bear in mind the "club" ethos of Newcastle United was sold down the river years ago, probably long before Mike Ashley even knew where Newcastle was, so we'll be looking for a businessman or group who will want a return on his/their investment or some mega rich philanthropist with the interests of Newcastle and it's fans at heart.(Very unlikely) So, serious question, if you want rid of Ashley what or who do you want instead ? Please no loose abstract answers like "anyone who'll have the club's interests at heart" or "will spend loads of money" or "anyone but the FCB" -just serious practical and constructive answers.
  14. Japan. Mumbai. I'm from the country where we use æ,ø, and å Where the beer is pricey (but good), the girls look good (and even better in summer) and someone once told me in a crowded bar that there is a word in your language for "excuse me" but you'll never hear it. Japan. Could even be Jesmond apart from the good beer bit.

  16. http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/630/GrammarNaziCat.jpg Without wishing to sound pedantic it was a spelling error I pointed out and not a grammatical one. You do understand the difference don't you ? Further to that, I would never criticise the grammar or spelling of anyone posting on here (we can all make mistakes) but when it is quoted from a media source then I think it's fair game to have a go at them as they should do better. In fact the number of mis-spellings, grammatical and pronunciation errors delivered by highly paid journalists on Sky etc is quite shameful and shows how far their profession has declined. i'll be honest, i thought tow the line was the correct usage probably form a nautical thing. having googled it is indeed toe the line. Just shows that using N-O can even be educational at times As I said earlier any of us can make that mistake, but when it's from a media source then they really should know better.
  17. Agree Newcastle will never achieve anything under Ashley. The shameful way that Ashley undermined Keegan and lied to the supporters, along with the shambolic way he has managed the club mean that amongst other things, no decent manager would come anywhere near us Quite right. Which is why so many on here supported the NUST "Yes we can" campaign as a credible alternative to Ashley. After all NUST wouldn't lie to supporters, would they ?

  19. Love the article on the previous page from sports.co.uk Fantastically well written especially the bit which says "Ashley has stuck by Chris Hughton and Joe Kinnear who will tow the line" Is he a f@cking tug boat ?
  20. I miss NE5 and seeing a load of laughing smileys being used in a reply once again makes me feel quite sentimental.
  21. Coloccini for his class, consistency and the fact he must have been a joy to play alongside. However this season really has been a great team effort so far, with outstanding contributions from goalkeeper, defenders (particularly Jose and Colo), midfield and forwards (especially Andy Carroll who has performed way above expectations) It's been good to see all 11 players giving it everything and doing their best and when substitutes come on they've been exactly the same. For the excellent team spirit and work ethic the management team also deserve a lot of credit.
  22. Cliff Byrne, meant to be their best defender. Suspended as he was sent off this weekend. (Shearergol feel free to amend this) For best, read worst. He's absolute garbage and slower than Shearer would be nowadays. Can't see this being anything other than a rugby scoreline. Incidently, where's the best place to drink after the match considering it's St Paddy's day? Anywhere but a plastic phoney Irish pub with a word like "Scruffy" "Murphy"or "O'thingys" in it's name, I'd suggest.
  23. I thought Guthrie's performance on Saturday was as close as you'll get to a 10 out of 10, albeit against a pretty dis-spirited opposition (2nd half). Ironically while a few players have been better suited to the Championship, I thought Guthrie looked better in the Premiership than he has in this league so far.
