  1. In the premier league he is. I don't think any of the people linked are unknown quantities in management.
  2. Hasn't klopp been relegated? I'd argue Howe is a reasonably know quality. I think many of the said detractors would have been happy with Favre or Fonseca who absolutely aren't known quantites. It's hard not to get drawn in and dissapointed given some of the names linked in the media. In lots of ways Howe is a perceived come down. Excited to find out if that is all misjudged. Most names would have been a gamble one way or another!
  3. It's all fun and games until their clubs call their bluff and say "OK,Newcastle awaits"
  4. "I have made a huge mistake."
  5. Some type of reception lol. I hope it is positive and there is a proper Howe chant or welcome.
  6. Hearing the delay is due to club ownership scrambling, mitigating the PR disaster of Charnley inking Steve Howey to a 2.5 year contract instead.
  7. And Eddie in charge of England. Will know he has done well then.
  8. Willock reacting late to the Emery news And Howe coming instead..
  9. Aye, he worked with them all except Howe at Bournemouth.
  10. https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/4timsxtra-eddie-howe-deal-collapses/id1472047732?i=1000523441921&l=es ‎Four Tims and a Podcast: 4TimsXtra - Eddie Howe deal collapses ... Alas not a tweet.
  11. I do wonder how it affects the Tarkowski rumours. I would be shocked if Howe doesn't try for a cheeky loan bid or otherwise for Ake. He isn't in favour as a starter at Man City, reunion makes a lot of sense if things haven't changed for him by January. Maybe just a pre-contract for Tarkowski in Jan. Edit: Armstrong back in?
  12. Yep. we could do with them picking up a point here and a stay of execution for Smith.
  13. Yep. the other two are available I think. If I am Sheffield United or anyone else, I know we are minted. Can't blame them if they are taking the piss.
  14. It would be interesting to know who's appointment he really was. Maybe part of the reason he stuck around was based on the knowledge Bruce would go soon enough. I don't doubt Jones has been overhyped a bit but he is clearly a different league to the 3 Steve's based on his reputation, experience and connection with players. It is impossible to know how much control he had or ability to change anything, so it is not like anyone is definitively right or wrong here, he could be really shit but it is also harsh to judge Jones imo in the shower of shit he has been surrounded with when it seems he didn't have much control and possibly huge influence. Ultimately he is a part of it but so was Eddie Howe coaching under Kevin Bond at Bournemouth. Things could be different had Bournemouth canned him along with Bond and the other coaches. As he alluded to the other week, he took his ideas to Bruce to approve. Who knows what was and wasn't. I'd imagine it is next to impossible to change a culture at a club when the Manager and his two long term trusted assistants have zero interest in changing, along with a fair majority of players that have enjoyed the freedom, lack of structure and lazy ethos Bruce and co. gave them. Too many of the players have become complicit with situation and when things go wrong in games you default back to what you are used to. When the overall culture is rotten and players know they can get away with slacking or not performing all the coaching in the world from one person means little with 3 others who are in charge undermining and contradicting. The last part is conjecture for sure but it has been clear the squad has been broken mentally and physically for a long time and the players consistently still performing.. Wilson? Always first to Jones, those splintered team talk sessions in breaks of play with both the Steves and then Jones talking to different players or end of games, the ones that care are around Jones. There just seems to be more speculation he is a bad coach in comparison to the indicators he isn't. He has a fantastic reputation and sure pundits give Bruce praise too! Difference is Jones has been in demand and invited to the England set up, it's not just pundit buddies hype and hot air. With any change over you have to assess what value do staff/players offer the club and do they have potential to improve things. Jones clearly does in the owners eyes or the FA and Southgate. The three Steve's clearly didn't. I could get the bitching if Agnew got assurances. Granted I am giving him an out but there are always just too many variables to simply say from the outside that X was part of a failing team he needs to go, why is it any different to players? How many players have made their careers off the back of a new manager coming in and changing their game when they looked finished, dipped form or plain hopeless/terrible before and we can quantify players performance a lot easier as its so visible. The majority of our players haven't delivered but their is a fair few I am happy will get the chance to see if with a new manager can improve and meet potential. Irrespective, coming back to his standing, genuine passion and knowledge of the club, there is a place for him somewhere and again if he doesn't work with Howe he won't work with him long. Seems more people that want to improve want to work with Jones than don't.
  15. Don't really get the Jones hate at all, think it's clear and was clear walking into the job he isn't a manager. This criticism seems misguided based on being tainted by the Bruce regime stank and raised expectations for a job he isn't qualified to do. Clearly he is rated in footballing circles for his ability as a coach not jobs for the boys, clearly players gravitated to him since being here and we clearly improved upon arrival. It is hard to know if it would have been much worse without him being there or how big an impact he has had but I am not going to write him off when he was surrounded by absolute dross and potentially with little ability to sway the three Steve's thinking that would have been stacked against him. It is seeping out despite trying to be classy that he didn't have as much of a say in things under Bruce and didn't agree with what was happening. He absolutely has a genuine knowledge and love of this club and wants to be here in any capacity, ahead of furthering his career elsewhere. That was clear from his first presser, which is available to watch in full. I would recommend people watch him talk about the club in that. Id be shocked if there were many people at the club with his passion and knowledge of it. With his apparent standing/reputation and pure passion for this club I can see why the ownership wanted to keep him around. They would be silly not to when we are looking to go grass roots and rebuild trust in the area across all levels. I also have no problem with him saying he has reassurances when he is getting asked that question in press conferences, he is proud to be here. Again in the presser it's clear he would likely take any role in this set up whether it's with the first time or elsewhere. He is fanboying massively still. It is easy to say like Bruce, if he was a real fan he would have done something, he would have walked. That is all BS, we don't know what he has said, done, been blocked from doing and when you are that passionate about the club and confident in your abilities to contribute its hard to walk away. He has tried to be pragmatic and get the defence better drilled the past two weeks and it has looked better on that end bar the limitation of the players. I don't think there is an instant miracle cure and while I didn't like his selections or tactics much I don't think anyone would have changed those results. If he isn't up to the task or Howe doesn't work with him he will be moved on, simple but he clearly hasn't earned a reputation, clear admiration from players. Some of the hate is frankly bizarre to me.
  16. Only downside to trippier is his age. Seems like a goer transfer expectation wise though and would be a great short term signing to kick us on. LB must he a more pressing priority, although I am excited to see if with some confidence/actually coaching whether Lewis can turn things around. CM is a priority.
  17. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/competitions/premier-league/12460727/jones-expected-to-manage-brighton-game Not much new. I'd hope Eddie is announced today, gets to talk to players, have input but be in the stands.
  18. There wasn't a manager on that list that people wouldn't have concerns with in some area or another. Emery - communication, falling out with players, the one season effect Martinez - defence, Everton record Favre - defence, communication, lack of charisma, ASM rumour. Fonseca- defence, journeyman agent, hint of dodgy used car salesman. Gerrard- inexperience, will leave for liverpool or England. People would have worried about Conte not being able to handle a relegation fight ffs. To me it's whether they can make believers of the players and the fans. Rafa had a fair few detractors just because of his pragmatic approach, Howe or whomever came in will have the same. It's what we do, we are fickle and hypercritical. I see this as a pretty happy medium appointment. He is progressive can and is most likely to unite the supporters not least satisfying our PFM portion of the match going crowd wanting an English manager. His knowledge and experience of the league, prior relationship with some of our players and ability to communicate clearly, honestly and eloquently with players and supporters will likely be why he was chosen over the likes of Favre and Fonseca. I like the gamble because I actually think it's one of the safer bets that will lead us to the next level. Looking forward to the journey, attacking intent and actual tactics. Think it will get a fair few of the usual media trolls off our back as Eddie is liked.
  19. Eddie, Eddie Howe.. to boney m, daddy cool is pretty simple, if not vastly overused.
  20. Already hearing he is Daddy cool and Boney M playing "Eddie, Eddie Howe, Eddie, Eddie Howe"
  21. All available on NUFCTV this time tomorrow. Lol
  22. Really hope the match day crowd gets behind him. He clearly isn't the big name the media frenzy made us feel we could get but he is honest, meticulous, hard working, committed to bettering himself and will give everything to this while aspiring to a style of football that our fanbase craves. If he gets our full backing and love as a fanbase and our new scouting team give the right signings in January, I feel he has a chance to be special. Really feel the fan support alone will take him to a new level and he will feed off it.
  23. I mean the odds are good. The majority of managerial appointments are in the long run. I will yang your Ying though and say he will do great and be a great placeholder.
  24. Can see him meeting players tomorrow and offering advice to Jones, maybe involved in some of the gamelan, then being in the stands. Don't see him taking full charge. Also gives him an out if we get obliterated!
