This. Shelvey is fine when motivated but Ki is a much better bet. He can do most of what Shelvey offers when Shelvey is motivated but does so more responsibly. I'd go Longstaff, Hayden and Ki everytime. It all matters not when King Saivet returns.

Not really, McClaren had a good reputation as a coach and actually won something in his career. Bruce is apparently a nice guy and good man manager, seems to have generally good first years at clubs but other than that his pardew levels of atrocious. Pardew at least came with a reputation for his West Ham and Reading sides playing attacking football. God knows that was obviously no guage of what was to come.

I'd actually be surprised if we sign a CM if Scott signs. Longstaff (likely staying) Ki Hayden (likely again denied a move) Colback (inevitable) Saviet (likely a fresh start too) Shelvey Scott Would be nice to think we could upgrade though.

During the KK years, is he the sort of defender people would have been happy to have at Newcastle? Particularly 95-96? I've never really seen clips of him playing, so I've no idea if he'd have been a good fit for that side. As a manager I think he is rotten and he has shown himself to be incredibly disloyal so I now also dislike him as a man. But as a player, I thought he was an excellent defender. I detest manu, but in the early 90's him and Pallister were a phenomenal centre back pairing. Bruce used to take penalties as well (which was one thing I thought was great as it was a bit rare to have a central defender take them). If he had decided to come to us as a player, I would likely feel different about him. Doubt Rafa would have had him over Lascelles, Lejeune, Schar and Fernandez lke. Best English defender never capped imo. Wish he had the same qualities in management.

He was brilliant in most of the games I saw. Wouldn't be surprised at all if better teams are sniffing around. This. Very skeptical when we signed him but at times he looked our best defender. Smart but no-nonsense defender that knows his limitations.
