My take is it really depends on the status of the “4th - 6th” players we are targeting. The way Ashworth doing business is that he refuses to pay higher than the value in his mind unless under very special circumstances (Wood, Isak). He would rather keep the money and wait for opportunities in the market (Gordon case) or till the seller is willing to lower the asking price. Leverkusen is asking 80M + for Diaby which I really doubt Ashworth would approve the deal. However if they are willing to cut the asking price during the final hours, Ashworth would not hold back.

I think we will get Gallagher, Pedro and one more defender for the coming summer, totally around 100M. Then unless there is a cut price deal available in the market (like Gordon), that would be it. Our strategy seems to try to balance between long term targets and unexpected lucrative deals

Targett is good enough or else we won’t bring him in. The club is having doubt on his recovery rather than his natural ability, which is fair imo if he could put in a few performance before the end of the season we might not buy a new LB. That’s my feeling

Err I would say he is not “playing within himself” type of player, kinda opposite. He is probably just trying not to upset the new teammates.
