  4. Newcastle to Sign Best Foreign Star in Italy Last Season: Spurs, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Middlesbrough & Everton to Miss Out! Press reports suggest that Newcastle executive director of football Dennis Wise has headed to Switzerland for talks with young Swiss sensation Gokhan Inler’s agent Dino Lamberti in view to a summer transfer. The Udinese midfielder will reportedly cost around £4m which seems relatively cheap considering his growing reputation in Serie A after just one season playing there. He may not be a household name in England but he’s built an growing reputation in Europe over the past few seasons and impressed individually in Switzerland’s doomed Euro 2008 performances. Inler currently plies his trade for Serie A side Udinese whom he joined last season. The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive first campaign in Italy after moving from FC Zurich. Due to injuries to established midfield stars Giampiero Pinzi and Chris Obodo, the youngster soon became a first team regular and was voted the best foreign player in the Italian top division for the past half of the campaign last season. He played in 37 of the clubs 38 League games and scored twice (all starts) as Udinese finished an impressive 7th. Inler’s a highly energetic player with an excellent work ethic and is sound in possession. Inler can put himself about but is not an overly physical player as 6 bookings in 37 games last season suggests. He certainly isn’t a patch of Joey Barton anyway! The Swiss youngster is an excellent reader of the game so snuffs out attacking threats through his awareness rather than brute force although he’s no shrinking violet when it comes to a challenge. Inler won back to back Swiss League titles with FC Zurich and has been an integral member of the national side since making his debut in September 2006. He played in all 3 of his countries Euro 2008 games and now has 20 appearances at this level (1 goal). At 23, Inler has already plenty of experience and after impressing both in Serie A and at international level he would be a useful acquisition for many Premier League clubs though it’s Newcastle who look set to win the race for his signature. So were you impressed by his Inler’s performances at Euro 2008? Would Newcastle fans like your club to sign the Swiss international or are you rather ‘neutral’ about it all? from: footballpools.com http://www.footballpools.com/pundits-corner/2008/07/03/newcastle-to-sign-best-foreign-star-in-italy-last-season-spurs-aston-villa-sunderland-middlesbrough-everton-to-miss-out/
  5. from Dailystars £100M MANCHESTER CITY KITTY MARK HUGHES could be handed a £100million transfer bonanza this week if Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra gets the phone call he’s expecting. The hard-line committee, set up by Thailand’s military government to investigate corruption charges, against former Prime Minister Shinawatra is due to be disbanded tomorrow. And they are recommending all charges be dropped and Shinawatra’s frozen assets be handed back in full. That amounts to a staggering £1.3billion.Hughes was originally promised £50m to spend this summer and already £19m has gone on Brazilian striker Jo. But if Shinawatra gets his hands on his cash pot again then the City manager’s budget could be doubled. Hughes’ first task, though, will be to see City’s legal team tie up the deal for CSKA Moscow star Jo, who has agreed a four-year contract. The only stumbling block will be a work permit because the Brazilian has only one international cap to his name. But City have already had word from the Home Office that the permit will be granted. Jo, 20, isn’t in the Brazil squad for the World Cup qualifiers. But City will argue that the talented hitman would by now have earned many more caps if he’d played in any other national team. Jo has scored 44 goals in 77 games in two seasons in Moscow and he will be a major boost to Hughes’ assault on the Premier League. And he could still play a major role in his second signing. City haven’t given up on Ronaldinho even though AC Milan claim to have hijacked the deal. Jo is a pal of the Brazilian legend and will try to get him to commit to City.

  8. from transfermarketweb.com Newcastle extend deal to Taylor he defender Steven Taylor (21) has today extended his contract with Newcastle. Negotiations for the renewal was longer than expected, but finally the "yes" from the player has arrived.
  9. On the bench most likely, the manager seems to prefer simao over him although I've seen simao do nothing this competition where as Quaersma has the ability to get a goal out of nothing. Yes , agreed 100% !

  11. GIOVANI DOS SANTOS signed for Tottenham after boss Juande Ramos convinced the Mexican they can gatecrash the Champions League next year. The teenage star joined Spurs from Barcelona yesterday for a fee that could reach Ј8.6million depending on appearances. Dos Santos, 19, admitted: “I love Tottenham’s plans, they are very ambitious. I was interested in joining them because they are a team that can compete with the top clubs. “I know Juande Ramos and, of all the offers I had, this was the most challenging from a sporting point of view.” Dos Santos, who will provide top-class competition for a place either up front or in midfield, met Ramos when he was manager of Seville. Ramos has kept close tabs on Dos Santos’ career and persuaded chairman Daniel Levy to spend some of this summer’s Ј40million transfer war chest on the young star, who had just a year left on his contract with Barca. He is the second creative player Ramos has signed during the summer break with Croatian Luka Modric already at White Hart Lane following his Ј15.8m switch from Dynamo Zagreb. The Dos Santos transfer will be completed when the Mexican has undergone a medical. But he will not have any work permit problems as he is now a naturalized Spaniard after signing for Barcelona at the age of 13.

  15. It's always games like this where Ronaldo gets found out. Just like the Milan semi-final a year back. Kaka was the star that night and Messi has been the star tonight. I've not doubt Ronaldo could be as good as those two but he needs to perform on the bigger stage and not just against the Boltons and Middlesboroughs. ...and Newcastle
