Will he go to the Euro's.....
-
He's adapted better than Colo because he's physically pretty good for the PL. He's not the strongest but as strong as most wingers and very quick to boot. Colo had to adapt to the pace of the game.

Gervinho's been pretty good since he came on imo

Yohan Cabaye (now sporting coordinator at Paris Saint-Germain)
The College Dropout replied to a topic in Football
He has the full knowledge to play that position so he's not wrong. He's done it for most of the season too. Automatically knows when to stand off, when to press and is very disciplined. He's obviously played that role before. -
I'd agree with this. We only tend to produce 2 types of central midfielder. The Scott Parker and the Lampard/Gerrard. Both types involve a lot of running.
-
Don't think they are too far apart in those aspects really. The biggest difference is off the ball - Guthrie's a liability, whereas Cabaye is a huge asset. Yohan seems to be a pretty good natural athlete too. Something Danny isn't. We keep saying Yohan is "better off the ball" but in truth he's simply a more intelligent, disciplined and tactically aware footballer. Guthrie's a good player but he's not on Cabaye's level.

Souness ruined a very good squad. Ruined. Everyone else just fought amongst the debris.

This is a load of bs. Arsenal produce superstars. Why would you sign for them? Look how Henry, Vieira, Van Persie, Pires, Cole, Fabregas, heck even Walcott has improved etc. improved whilst at the club. Even Flamini, Adebayor & Hleb improved to the point Europe's elite signed them. Chamberlain's a very young lad, his time will come. Rosicky has been very good too. If there's any side a young lad should join it's Arsenal. You get taught how to play football the right way and you know if your good enough, you will play.

What did he say about Colo?
-
Let's have this discussion after we finally win something. Would love to win the league cup just the way it is. Wouldn't mind throwing all our eggs into the cup baskets next season.
-
Would have Lennon over Hatem at RW tbh. Real width.
-
Phil Jones would struggle in this L'pool side. Even Chamberlain wouldn't have been so great in this side, too much pressure.

As always, Stoke have nothing to play for.. very much doubt they'll be giving away monnaie for injured opposition. And if anything, De Jong will be mindful of his tackles on Ben Arfa. He's a brutal player but he's not a brainless chav like Catts for example.. He may have more of footballing brain on his shoulders, but he's still instinctively brutal though. Players like that are untrustworthy. Yep. He doesn't go out to hurt players when he plays football but when he plays football, he will hurt players. Catts completely loses the plot, there's no discrimination as to who he targets, and his action is usually worthy of a straight red. Hence the inference that he is lacking a football brain. DeJong is instinctively brutal. When he targets a ball-carrier he hits them at pace, he leaves nothing to spare. But there's a large degree of premeditation in what he does. He'll sacrifice an early yellow as a means of laying into opposition's most creative ball-carrier. It's all about sewing a seed of doubt into the head of such a player (whether it be HBA etc), get them hearing footsteps for the rest of the game. If there's an influential creator anywhere in his vicinity you cannot trust him. If football was properly refereed and governed thugs like Cattermole and De Jong, who intentionally go out to injure opponents, would not be making a living out of the game. Sadly they still are. De Jong's not a thug though. On rare occasion does he lose his head and do something Cattermole-like. He'll make a good tackle but make sure the opponent feels the tackle. He'll make petty fouls to interrupt talented forwards. Much like his buddy Van Bommel, when he picks up a yellow he'll stop doing it but for the smallest foul. Whereas Cattermole will go in recklessly and with anger in the 89th minute with his side winning 3-0 and an important game coming up the following week. De Jong's no Cattermole but he's a danger. He's not likely to start anyway.

Will we qualify for the Champions League? Sadly not...

Just had a look. If they don't win at QPR or lose, it's on. They win that...... -

Assou-Ekotto Gareth Bale Younes Kaboul (the first time) Aaron Lennon Luka Modric Dimitar Berbatov KP Boateng Thierry Henry He was limited to British players at L'pool and that pretty much was his downfall. Even with the bad signings at Spurs, if you sell all the players he helped bring in there would be a massive profit. Modric & Bale alone would produce a 35m profit easily. He didn't have any problem overspending on British players at Spurs either. Bent, Bentley and Hutton cost over 40m. Modric and Berbatov cost 12m+. Bale was so under the radar he cost just 10m at 17. Chimbonda, Gilberto, Gunter, Dos Santos, Rocha. His record isn't good considering his job is recruitment. Managers get just as many right. He seems to buy players on a whim rather than through good scouting too. Modric after his performances against England. Pavlyuchenko after the Euros. Rocha after a good performance against Man U. Hutton after a purple patch. Carroll after a purple patch. Ramos riding the Sevilla wave. Sell all the players Comolli signed at Spurs and you have a massive profit. That's the sign of a good job. I already said his biggest flops came from British players and that's what Kenny wanted him to bring in so it was never going to work looking at his record. Newcastle United fans know all about spending £10m+ for poor players. A player that produces on the pitch is a good signing regardless of fee. A player who comes with a big fee and that leaves for double is a great signing. Name me 3 players in Newcastle history, that we signed from another club and was sold or could have realistically sold for 3 times the fee or a £15m profit each? Name me Premiership managers that have done the same thing. SAF, Wenger and perhaps O'Neill who crippled that club anyway. Managers do not get just as many right.

Every single one of those signings was obvious, in that they were all pretty big names prior to signing. Santon, Cabaye, HBA, Ba, Marveaux & Cisse likewise but we still applaud what Carr has brought us. Even Colo. Most great players have good reputations before they make it big time and could be seen as obvious signings. If Diouf became a world beater he'd be seen as an obvious signing, same with Carroll tbf. A good signing is a good signing. Regardless of reputation.

Spurs are in free fall. Your form matters much more than your opponents. See Wigan/Arsenal as an example and Wolves/L'pool. Only thing is they do have the quality to get a few cheap wins that will increase the confidence similar to our 1-0 against Norwich. Still, Spurs are playing badly and Chelsea have trophies to compete for. I'm not too concerned about the other teams tbh. As long as we keep winning and picking up points i'll be delighted. -
Did he hire the managers? If he had no role on that side of things and was just tasked to bring in talented youngsters he did a good job. The Spurs signings I named are all immensely talented and it is the detriment of the managers at the club that they never fully utilised their skills. I don't think the majority of the L'pool lads are up to much kop (see what I did there) anyway. Although Downing isn't as bad as he's shown. But I genuinely think a certain Scot had a huge influence on what type of players could be signed. And there are a limited pool of British players, all of whom come at a premium. Comolli is far better at bringing in the Suarez type of player (good reputation built abroad). If Carr had to look for mostly British lads, we'd be struggling too.
-
Gareth Bale seems to be his only big money British success. But in general he's a good chief scout. He's shown he can bring success. He's not the root of the problem at Liverpool... we all know who it is down too.

Read he had a hand in signing Henry, Pires and another member of the invincibles I can't remember the name of whilst he was at Arsenal.

Aye, 16 point swing in 4 months can't be down to 1 player. I personally think its down to Mancini losing his bottle and losing the group with his poor decisions. Agreed. Balotelli's the character and been poor himself. But he's been no worse than Aguero, Silva and Dzeko who have been anonymous for months and a few more. It comes from the manager.

One game at a time fella.
