Atletico doesn't let them play their counter-attacking game. Just doesn't work. It's probably a simple view but Real tends to have problems against teams that defend deep and what separates Atletico to the other spanish league teams is that they actually have genuine quality in midfield and attack as well, so they can't sit back and wait either. But yeah, they shouldn't struggle this much in terms of tactics so next explanation might be that their players take derby far more serious as Simeone pumps them up for it than Cronaldo, Bale and Benzema.
