Aye it's all subjective, think both of you have it fairly accurate as well. He's right up there, but I'd certainly agree he isn't in the same class as Ronaldo, Shearer, Weah, etc.

If Owen and Shearer weren't world class in their hayday then who the fuck was man? I never said Shearer wasn't but Owen no way. World class to me is someone who performs at the top of their game for a good number years consistantly. Some world class players of recent time IMO - Zidane, Maldini, Xavi, Ronaldo, Messi, C.Ronaldo, Shevchenko Owen had a few years where he was Liverpool's main man and England's main man, with some decent competition certainly at international level (not brilliant by any stretch mind). He scored goals at all levels in all sorts of games (some very, very big games) and was quality when not struggling with niggling injuries. Suppose I'm just a bit more liberal with my criteria than you are at the end of the day, because my "world class" definition would extend to more than a dozen or so players in my lifetime. They're world class if they are amongst the best in the world at their time, which Owen was comfortably.

Him and Shearer were fantastic. Is that a pisstake? We were absolutely s**** at that time. And those two only had two or three games in which they both played well. Owen was never a world class footballer. A very good goalscorer during his prime, no more. Agree with the first sentence, disagree with the second.

World class at what he did, which is all you can ask for really. There weren't many (any?) better poachers when he was on form throughout his career. I still remember his early games at SJP - he was an absolute cut-above everything else on the pitch at times with some of his runs, touches and dribbles. Think that's why his time here sticks in the throat so much, because he was actually a real high quality player that we got stiffed on.

Owen, when he signed. Was soon knackered like.

It's absolutely gash man. Even some of the bits where it tries to make him look good he looks shocking Worse than that Colo at the World Cup (I think) one that was doing the rounds? I didn't see that one mate. This one is pretty poor though, aside from a couple of pacey covering moments and his goal.

No football videos please folks, for the billionth time. That video is fucking shite anyway, serious clutching at straws going on for 75% of it. (Campbell's return video on YouTube, for those wondering.)
-
Depends how he's done until the point of Taylor's return and if Campbell remains fit, but you'd like to hope it would be Coloccini and that he'd put the ghosts of 2008/09 to rest a bit.

Gutted that it's taken us so long to get him, but I am actually glad he's finally here. Always been a real top-class performer for as long as I have been watching football and I'm just crossing my fingers that his legs have enough in them and his head is in the right place for the entirety of his time here. Could prove to be a real shrewd acquisition if he stays fit and marshals the defence. Sort of an "Patrick Kluivert/Alan Smith" feel about this deal, as if he was always going to play for us at some point (probably just due to the amount we were linked with them all before they eventually signed). If he can combine Smith's attitude and Kluivert's ability (despite being in the twilight of his career) then he'll be spot-on, but if he gets those two mixed up, we're fucked.

I didn't see the game man :colo: Was just being an arse.
-
Eh, no he didn't.. His replacement Kalilou Traore had his debut though and got about 30 min...
-
It's only been up again for 20 minutes, give it time.

As managers? Can't see anything else realistically unless they both fail spectacularly somewhere. I think Speed would be happy to come here and coach, provided we guaranteed a chance at management. Can you see that happening? Realistically?

He played 30 minutes.

Fairly certain I can remember him in an interview saying he considers himself a central defender, but I might be wrong. In regards to Sol, I'm happy enough but I must continue my broken record and state he should have been here 5 years ago.
-
Cover for Enrique. Aye, I was thinking, but its a shame that he wont get a proper run in his natural position- a knack we seem to have with the younger lads. I'm glad we've signed Sol, but its a shame to see Kadar shunned... LB is Kadar's natural position. CB, innit?
-
Mancini saying Bellamy may be left out of Man City's 25 as well. Surely he's off?
-
Career over. gosling probably wont be in our 25. He's under 21, doesn't need to be.

Arevalo was massively impressive during the World Cup, complete dynamo. Hopefully there's something in that one, but I won't hold my breath.

I was about to ask the same as I live in a hell hole in Lincolnshire that doesnt have a good sport shop around. Which part of Lincolnshire mate??
