we've not had that much of a settled back four have we? also, in games in which we're attacking more and committing people upfield the likes of Coloccini get singled out more and overall get less help from other players than they would today. that's not to take away from what was an excellent defensive job though. If Taylor gets fit for the Smogs and is put straight back in the team ahead of Bassong for no other reason than he's fit again, or if Enrique is taken out and Bassong is shifted to LB, then Kinnear wants a slap.

Painful 90 minutes, but bloody hell we've done it! 2 of our 3 points away from home this season have come at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge. Only at NUFC.

It was fucking awful that, picked up in the middle, could have checked back, carried on out wide to the left flank, dropped his shoulder 4 time and backheeled it miles away from anyone to a Chelsea defender. Ffs. Nice of Duff to give him an option as well like.

Left-to-right makes me cry. (Howay the lads and all that!) Actually... howay the forum!

I've got stuff going on in the background that won't be helping at all. Will stop it at 1pm so it's fine for the pre-match build, the match and the inevitably glorious aftermath. Will set it away again around midnight and leave it going overnight, so the forum will be a bit slower than usual then.

"Search" has been disabled today for two reasons: 1) While I work to get it speeded up I don't want people using the function/potentially affecting the process. 2) If some inconsiderate fuckers search during the game (like people were last week!) then it could cabbage the whole forum for everybody - and we know that it's gonna be a barrel of laughs on here this afternoon, so would hate for that to happen. I'll let people know when it's all back to normal. Since 7am I did manage to get one other large problem fixed (the IP lookup function that we have as Admins), so progress is still being made!

£11.75 then for the pernickety amongst us.
-
Overall though now, thanks to Dave setting us away with the SMF guys I feel I've got the support I need to be able to finish the job (as it were) and with me in constant contact with Tagadab I feel as though the whole thing is well-covered. It was getting extremely frustrating battling it all on my own with only Google and stuff as any sort of knowledge base. Although it's cost us, it'll be worth it in the long run I'd expect. Restarting the forum is an absolute last resort.
-
It shouldn't come to that. As it stands we're doubling our RAM on Monday afternoon at a cost of £10 more per month, as we've been recommended to do so by 2 SMF tech guys and a technical support guy from our new host. Also, I'm currently working with those SMF guys to "fix" certain things they've found wrong with the forum already, which will hopefully help even further. Basically there's SMF tech guys working on some aspects (i.e. discovering what exactly causes slowness/errors - discovered so far that the Search function is a real issue, but this should be fixed tonight), Tagadab tech guys working on some other aspects (i.e. tuning the server to support the forum better) and myself doing stuff under instruction. There'll be more downtime in the early hours tonight as I hopefully fix the Search function once and for all, I'll try and do it as late as possible so as to disrupt as few people as possible. It won't be down all night though.

I think me AND Dave must have combined to kill it there, 'cos he was obviously doing stuff when I was in Admin fiddling as well.
-
Must admit i thought that. Had visions of you lads saying "oh god not that whingy twat again" Not at all! It's helping to pinpoint the times when we're struggling (i.e. are the hosts conducting maintenance or something daft during our busy times, etc.)
-
Hosts have tweaked all they can in the current set-up and because some people are still struggling I think we'll be moving up a level as far as their hosting packages go. So we'll see how we go with that.
-
Same here RM, cheers for posting! We'll be down for a bit longer soon, hosts are trying to fix it.

Duff says Joe Kinnear should be permanent Newcastle manager
Rich replied to LoveItIfWeBeatU's topic in Football
He can get to fuck. It's just because he's getting a game. -
Surely he only means the last year and a bit, everything was great prior to that.
-
Well that's a right kick in the testicles. I'll ring 'em again in the morning. Thanks for letting me know! I'd only popped away for 5 minutes to read some footy news from elsewhere.

The changes didn't take place until about 5.30pm, so not too worried with anything prior to that (apparently there was some built-in setting in the forum code that meant we were tripping over when it got busy, carried over from the previous one obviously.) How slow are we talking on the pages? I average at about 0.1 seconds, I think, generally. If the SMF errors have been rectified by Tagadab then it's up to us to get an Optimizer installed on the forum (can yield speed/performance improvements of up to 80% apparently and comes highly recommended). Unfortunately this isn't the most simple of procedures and we may need outside help to get it sorted. I know it's a pain in the arse the length of time it's taking to get everything to how it should be, but it's the nature of the beast unfortunately, have to tackle it bit by bit. If nobody posts errors then we don't know anything's wrong, as well, so I'm honestly grateful. If we can narrow down the times of when we're at our slowest it means I can gather data across that period and send it to Tagadab and they can hopefully do something about it, like they did tonight. That's only been fixed because the likes of yourself reported it with a time and we were able to pinpoint what exactly what was wrong.
-
How bad has it been? (Are we talking just general slowness or the page creation times?) You've been a massive help mate, keeping this thread going.
-
Any SMF connection errors for anybody tonight? I dealt with the new hosts today and they made some changes to the database (nowt to do with hosting) that they were hoping would enable us to manage many more users than we've had so far. At least if that happens we know it's not the actual hosting at fault, moreso the board technology (surprise, surprise)! If anyone has had any SMF connection errors since teatime, please say so.

The resemblance is immense though. Good spot.

Barton out for two months with medial ligament damage
Rich replied to LoveItIfWeBeatU's topic in Football
Last thing both he and we needed to be honest. I bet he's even less nice to be around when he's not playing. -
How the fuck is that "safe for work"?! Edited.

We are going to get a serious battering here. Again.
