Shay Given looks great for 47.

3 points. Controlled the game well after going 1 up. Clean sheet! Happy days.

Yeah fair. Everything just feels a bit stiff. Maybe too much emphasis on keeping possession. Try some riskier passes in the final third.
-
Workmanlike first half. Lots of effort, not much creativity or dynamism outside of Gordon.

Good post.

Woof. Howe really needs to take this on the chin. He's had a shocking start to the season. I was hoping his post-match comments were just to keep dirty laundry in-house, but his actions betrayed that wishful thinking That is another tragic loss, but in a different way to Liverpool. Newcastle made very simple things look incredibly difficult and Brighton were the polar opposite. Those are three hard fixtures, but Newcastle have put in three very meek performances. I think it's also unlikely they'll ace the "should win" fixtures as effectively as they did last year. And if the aspirations are top 5, they're now very reliant on some substantial skidmark runs of form from other top sides. Nick Pope looks frightened of his own shadow. Joelinton looks an utter liability/passenger rather than the midfield destroyer we enjoyed (is he injured?). The substitutes are puzzling, the game plans are naive, Isak hasn't looked sharp. Joelinton and Isak should start on the bench next game. Tonali has been a bright spot, but keeps getting hooked early.

Moving like latterday Shola.

Nick Pope's nerves looks absolutely shot. Can't command his the box aerially, looks like a frightened rabbit whenever he leaves his 6-yard box but seems to do so frequently and now his best quality - his shot-stopping - looks sloppy. What happened to him/

Lead in his boots lately. He's just running around in a small circle not pressing, not showing for the ball, not doing owt.
-
Big Joelinton is a proper passenger so far. Not really doing anything. Still feeling quite confident though. More quality all over the pitch. Will be a bit of a shitshow to not win this given the disparity.
-
Well, the bad news is, arguably our best player, Isak has missed two incredible chances. The good news is Brighton look bobbins on the ball - especially at the back - with all the conviction of a Newcastle side with a numerical advantage and a one-goal lead against a Liverpool side waiting to be beaten.

Cheers Yorkie. Not really needle-moving then. Wonder how the execs will prioritise re-qualifying for next year vs progression in the competition this year. -

Out of interest, what's the revenue implications of getting out of the group stages for NUFC? -
Disagree a little bit. I think he could be a starter at home vs Luton. Or in cup competitions in certain rounds. I don't think it's all or nothing IMO.
