If Newcastle are going to lose the ball every third pass in possession, at least make it an attempt at a forward pass. Slowly passing it back to pump it long is pointless.
-
That's a cynical foul

Pope's distribution is so fucking shite He could blindly hoof it every time it comes to him, and have a better success rate at finding a black and white shirt
-
Looks to be moving with a lot more conviction than last time we saw him. Hopefully injury issues behind him.
-
Gvardiol love in a bit much. Isak had him beat, he just tried to beat him one time too many and turned into him.
-
Gordon is the spark of this team. Which is great and bad. Would love to see more off the ball movement without him. Can't complain though. Great half/result on balance.

Great half once we took the lead, absolute bobbins before that! Funny old game.

Pope Schar Botman Burn Trippier Tonali Longstaff Gordon Bruno Isak Wilson Try this for fun.

Why are you using each others' names Pata and Kid Icarus?

Just staring at the group F table today after one round of games. Surreal and beautiful sight

I'm always so nervous every time he leaves the penalty area. Needs to be tethered to the goal posts.

Motm for me. Daft pass at the end after Trippier kept the ball in, but covered every blade of grass and showed for the ball consistently.

To be fair, I should say I thought Newcastle did much more than just graft hard tonight. I don't think there was much cutting edge, but for decent spells we had good possession and composure in other areas of the pitch that at least half the other Premiership sides are incapable of doing. There was also enough threat of a threat () that kept AC Milan honest too.

Yeah, feel much the same. Heard about some study a while back about people being essentially the same people no matter what happens to them. A curmudgeon will be a curmudgeon if they win the lottery. And a happy-go-lucky character will be a happy-go-lucky character if they break their leg. Feels much the same on the forum. Some are just happy to be here, and a point vindicates that positivity. Even thought a loss would have been managed within the context of it being against CL opposition, first game in CL in ages etc etc. Some want to see us play the best they are capable of doing, even if that isn't always possible for a variety of very credible reasons, and having only one 94th-minute shot on goal vindicates their desire to see team's talent showcased more effectively. While appreciating the players are giving it their all, I'm probably closer to the second of the two ends of the spectrum, but you've nailed it tbh - a different result with the same performance often yields a complete re-framing of how people spin the game to their own natural predisposition

Much better second half, hard fought point. Lots of great effort on show. When I was excited about Newcastle United playing in the Champions League, I have to admit I was hoping to see Newcastle show our quality on the ball - but this is a learning experience for a lot of those players in Italy against the CL finalists. Having said all that... ...I think it's fair to say that this team looks a shadow of itself from last year, so far. You can see moments of frustration amongst the players reaching the surface, often with each other. Isak giving Gordon pelters for sending him down blind alleys. Longstaff and Burn getting into it. The confidence on the ball, moving the ball at speed when in possession, it all feels very lacklustre. Isak is being used as an Almiron-esque workhorse. We didn't buy him for his stamina, it's a bit sad to see him so gassed whenever he gets the ball. Trippier and Bruno were the best players I thought.

Bit strong! Pleased NUFC are here but don't think we be too deferential to the occasion. I back this team to compete in the group if it plays up to the standards they've shown they're capable of tbh.

Doing really poorly at keeping shape. Huge gaps forming on transition. Newcastle are in a real rut in terms of creativity, the focus should therefore be on defensive discipline away from home IMO.
-
We haven't seen Bruno, Tonali and Longstaff as a midfield three at the same time, have we?
-
Murphy has been brought in to out-troll the Italian dark arts, clearly.
-
Ready to take his place in future folklore alongside Andy Griffin

M Bison would be proud of that one.
