  1. I knew when he came back we would have a lot of people who aint happy with him, he is maybe the only guy in football i could never say anything bad about, most of my greatest days as a Newcastle fan are directly linked to him. Therefore my opinion is pretty slanted, maybe he is tactically inept, maybe does say a lot of silly things in the heat of the moment. Theres no doubt however he has done more for this club than anyonelse in my lifetime therefore i will always back him to the hilt.
  2. With Paul Kitson. How old were you then? 10? Because it was a fuking diabolical decision to sell him to our biggest rivals, even if he wasn't in form at the time. Kitson had already been at the club a while before Cole was sold. It looked a poor decision at the time as Cole was my favourite player but in the long term it helped move the club in a different direction. It showed the world we couldn't compete with Manu. It burst our bubble and ruined our season. Paul Kitson on the end of everything instead of Andy Cole was soul & season destroying for me. We may have had a good 2-3 seasons after, but Manu pulled away because it could take any player from any club in the Prem without much fuss, and have been doing it ever since. Season was going tits-up well before Cole left.

I think looking back it worked out for the best, we had our best 2-3 years without Cole. Was gutted at the time, but i would always trust Keegan over what I, or anyother fan thinks - we dont work with these players day to day. And the general feeling was we were going stale - selling cole took us to the next level, who else at the time would have payed £6M? Blackburn didnt need him. One of Keegans finer moments i would say.
  4. Politics yes, egos though? Its was only rumours, but he did seem to imply when he left there was a mini player mutiny at chelsea lead by a certain england captain. therefore when the chips are down at inter - whose to say the likes of Ibrahimovic and Zanetti do the same? both are big favorites with Moratti. Ibrahimiovic in particulaer is well know for his tantrums. Wasn't it the likes of Terry that stood by him until the end? The rumour was that he went to Kenyon after an bust-up over form and injury. Who knows tho, he's is a very big character and will cliash with people http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2007/sep/23/newsstory.chelsea Interesting. Not so sure I believe the article, but I certainly wouldn't put it past a w***** like Terry. Yeah it could all be paper talk, but with incidents like that at big clubs - sometime the players have more power than the managers

  7. Roma would have been my tip if they kept Mancini, Julio Baptista could have a good season. Fiorentina spent well time for them to step up and Milan surely cant be as bad as last year? Looks like it colud be a good season. I still rate Serie A, the big games have more quality in them than some of the prems's big ones. Be interesting to see how Mourinho handles Inter with the politics and egos, was his downfall at Chelsea
  8. Yes like Martins was against Man U. Note the quote "I accept they score their fair share of headers" Not exactly know for his headers is he, unlike a Klose type player
  9. Pennant is a far better crosser than Lennon, SWP and Milner. So he has the end product, does a crossing winger play to our strengths tho? maybe if we sign a target man also? if not with Viduka's injury record it could be argued if we want the best out of owen we need a midfield that will supply him and martins something to run onto? I accept they score there fair share of headers but these are small strikers that will be dominated in the air against good defenders.
  10. Best i saw him play was that loan spell at villa, gonna be a player that goes elsewhere and excels in a Jon Dahl Thomasson type of way? hes a talented player, just needs to put it all together
  11. Absolutely. Been the case for 2-3 years, squads been too thin since souness came. There seems a difference between the players we actually want and the ones that will actually sign bar a few cases. I hope we get 4 or more players in, really wont be holding my breath tho
  12. I dont think we are as attractive to players as many on here seem to think, had a pretty average few seasons, we aint paying the wages we used to and we aint a London club. World-class staduim willl only get us so far. To be honest i am more pleased with the Guthrie signing than i would have been with Aimar, sick of seeing players come here for the cash and spend 3 seasons doing nothing. Guthrie may not be the talent Aimar is, but i think we will get more for our money long-term.
  13. With Cole, my dad picked me and my bro up from school and told me, my bro being a man utd fan was going mental, i just couldnt wait to get home so i could start ripping some posters down. Felt like my girlfreind had told me to sod off and got with my brother. The Shearer thing i got back from swimming and was watching look north when it came up, i preceded to tape every news story about it for the next few days, had a good hour or two of footage, then bought every newspaper for the next few days also. Think they were 2 of the high water marks of supporting Newcastle in recent times, we do love our big transfers like no other club
  14. What would you have said to signing Shearer (assume you are not Newcastle) in 2000 for £7-10m. World Class, approaching the same age, at a provincial club, had a few injuries. lacking motivation or hunger is not something you can associate with Shearer, with Aimar had he kept the consistency that he started with at River and Valencia - The chances of us even being linked with him would be nil. Player on the decline, Shearer at the same age however even with injuries would have been no gamble
  15. Gotta wonder about a player who "was" deemed potentially world-class, that at the age of 28 finds himself at Zaragoza. Would prefer us going for players who are hungry and have a point to prove. just seems like another Emre type signing, A player who hardly plays, has questionable commitment and is maybe not suited to this league. Got Gamble written all over it at a time when I dont think we can afford one.
  16. I dont even think Batty could be to blame either, as I remember Keegan played Clark in the "Holding Role" anyways, and although not his ideal postion still held his own. Therefore Batty was just Like for Like in my view. I would go more for how we ended up with a tough run-in, and the fact the players that started the season so well, dipped alarmingly in form as United's top players got better and better.
  17. Had so many chances and has never delivered over a full season, arguably no better than when we signed him - maybe not as good as he was, had so much potential at ipswich and has totally wasted it with his love of the social scene and a poor temperament. Has been unlucky with injuries but overall it time to move on, the move may do him good and us long term also. Should have had well over 50 caps and be an England regular by now.
  18. Don't know how you can be quick to dismiss N'Zogbia whilst being happy having Duff as first-choice left-winger. Because a fully fit Duff is one of the best wingers in this league and is a proven performer, N'Zogbia is yet to play a full season for one reason or another in the prem. Potential is all well and good, but Duff has proven Champions League class. Sure he has performed well at times, but he is so overrated by sum fans its untrue. Would seem to me also that N'Zogbia is one of the players Butt was talking about at the end of last season saying they were'nt that bothered in playing for the club, get rid and get some one in who does. I'd be the same way if I had to play for Roeder. One might think Big Sam could steer Charlie in the right direction. He's looked pretty good in the pre-season. Even so, a player that will only peform if he is totally happy with his surroundings is one we may carry more often that not. As bad as some people say roeder was the players have to hold there hands up for last season, as mush as a player like Owen may not want to be at Newcastle you can bet when he is fit and on the pitch he will give 100%, players like N'Zogbia and Dyer need to go, they are the exact reason we have under acheved for so long, selling the disriuptive characters sends a message to the squad and the rest of the league.

  20. I think he is expendable, duff will be 1st choice on the left when fit, milner can player there too. A decent player but i dont rate him anywhere near as highly as some do, his commitment is questionable too. get rid and strengthen the areas we are short in, as is seems at the moment we need to sell before we buy.
  21. One of the best strikers in europe in Owen back, Dyer has a season under his belt - next season he will be a different player imo, Martins looks a class act, the best keeper in the league (or joint best), Surely Duff will b back to the player we know he can be, Taylor and Milner coming on leaps and bounds, money to strenthen in the summer, £300M ground development starting. Yep some of them are based on hope and if's and buts, but theres just too much doom and gloom at the min, how about the positives? I know all the reservetions people have - Fat Fred, Roeder, Defence, Parker etc........ - Prepares to be hammered
