A real shame, because there are a probably a few smug 'See, told you Hughton was just lucky, shocking performance from him, tactical idiot, poor substitutions' posts that are going to have to wait yet another week.

Newcastle v Huddersfield 26/08/09 - Pre Match Thread
chicago_shearer replied to Fatwax's topic in Football
Is this similar to when Allardyce deliberately played Harper as an outfielder in order to draw attention to how small the squad was? Or is Hughton on meth? -
Moat. I'd rather the devil we know, or at least one who has been involved in the club and understands its problems. It has nothing to do with local people, and more to do with trusting the motives of someone who has had a long term involvement with the club. We can be reasonably sure he is serious. Why did the Americans only get involved at the last possible minute? Who are they? How much money do they have? Why this club? Who gets appointed manager? Why is a middling Yorkshire businessman like Sheard, with a history of false bids for Championship clubs, their front man? How do the Chronicle not know the identity of the Americans, but do know the name of the PR firm they intend to use? I'd love for Larry Ellison, Paul Allen or whoever to take a random interest and buy the club. But this all sounds far too good to be true.

It has taken 489 pages, but we finally have an ITK that got something right.
-
So if they haven't provided proof of funds yet, then he hopes to complete in seven days what it took Moat the entire summer to do?

Louise Taylor has been 95% right about every negative thing she has written from Keegan to the takeover. She tells us what we don't want to hear because she is a shit stirrer, but she isn't another lazy football journalist. Caulkin just takes it to another level, because you can tell her cares for the club. Very interesting about this potential American mystery backer.

Good article. Makes the situation very clear. I hope there are some Toon supporting bankers at Barclays.

By the end of August how would you like to see the club . . . ?

Through the hubble telescope. While on a beach in Fiji. And surrounded by beautiful island women in micro-bikinis while Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox mud wrestle to decide whose turn it is to make me a sandwich. And then I'd get a text saying 'OMG Toon sld 2 Ambani, jst sgned David Villa oMG!'. Yep. Like that. -
I think Hughton is an extremely good coach, and he looks like is able to motivate players in the most difficult of circumstances off the pitch. But a big part of the job is going to be building a team that is capable of succeeding in the Premiership. We have no idea how he would be in the transfer market, or if he is tactically astute enough to make big changes against the better teams in this league. Having said that, we don't know those things about Shearer either. Shearer's main advantage is that he is practically unsackable, and will command the respect and support of the fans. We don't know if he is a manager either.
-
I'm hoping for a new owner and a full time manager by this time tomorrow, but I'd settle for any outcome that doesn't involve Joe Kinnear. Forward progress would be too much to hope for, so let's at least cross our fingers and hope that it doesn't get worse.

I keep remembering that picture of the Scunthorpe player with the 'Bring on Shearer' flag.
