  1. I think hes trying to say Ashleys been the one messing up our club somehow?? If only we had seen it.... Strange how many Leicester City fans fear of Kevin Nolan.

    Shola Ameobi

How many goals did Shola score under Roeder anyway? He had a bad hip, was out for surgery... wasn't he? What the fuck is Roeder talking about? Edit: And I admit much regret that I was a Roeder apologist.
  3. No love for the golden generation(s) of Portuguese footballers? Right, Portugal has not produced talent that can measure up to the three previously mentioned, but what other country can make that claim? I don't think that the Netherlands has produced many players that measure up to Bergkamp or van Basten. I think I'm a little less impressed with the likes of Robben, Sneijder, and van der Vaart than you are. I think Kezman is right to question the outrageous fees paid for them. More than a few Portuguese players have gone for similarly outrageous fees--Nani, Bosingwa. The price for those players is inflated for the same reason that the price of those Dutch players is inflated. Ryan Babel? C'mon. I think Kezman is right to claim that some Dutch players cost more because they are Dutch. But it was folly to bring up the names of Grønkjær and Rommendahl, who were/are shit.
  4. And they turn out a lot of top notch footballers for such a small country. The population of Denmark is about a third that of the Netherlands. Portugal is smaller than the Netherlands (about 2/3 the size) and has arguably produced a more impressive set of players. Let's start with Eusébio, C. Ronaldo and Figo Still, I think the Dutch reputation has more to do with playing in back-to-back World Cup finals. Finals they arguably should have won. Like the Hungarians in 54. (I'm not old enough to remember this-- but I been told this in practically every history I've read) When you have the best team in the world, even if it is only for a decade, that means something. And that reputation follows you for quite a while until that aura is beaten out of you (cf. Hungary, Scotland). And no, I don't think Denmark were the best in the world when they were European champions--- any more than I think Greece were when they won it a few years back. Contrary to what Kezman wrote, I think Denmark gets a lot of respect. And they deserve it; it's really remarkable how often they manage to work their way into the finals of major tournaments.
  5. Is Jonas injured? Who would play on the left in his stead? RTaylor, Guthrie, Barton?
  6. I voted for the Americans. I have nothing against Moat; it has taken him forever and a day to complete the sale. I'd rather see an owner who can afford to a top flight club. Also, I'd rather see someone other than Shearer appointed as manager. I'd hope that the Americans have enough sense to appoint an experienced, proven manager to handle their investment.
  7. At this point I'd be happy just to see Ashley gone. I'm not even concerned with competing with the Arsenals, Chelseas, and Liverpools. That was years ago and as far as I'm concerned might as well be years in the future. I'd just like to see us hold onto our best players, hire a few Championship-capable players, hire a decent manager, and focus on winning promotion back to the Premiership. That's all. Ashely gone. Keep Taylor and Enrique. A few warm bodies and a decent manager. Is that too much to ask?
  8. Yeah, that about sums it up. Ashley and Kinnear would be as bad as it could possibly get. Couldn't be any worse than that.
  9. Got an image of Fat Sam barking over the PA system. Telling Blackburn how they're going to sort things out.
  10. How many good games has Barton had in 2 years? About the same amount. He was out most of last season and still had more than Smith. Aston Villa, West Brom Edit: Barton was awesome for us during the brief, too brief Keegan tenure.
  11. Thought we've sounded pretty good since the substitutions. Coasting. Sounded that way at least.
  12. Well, I like Houghton taking the initiative with substitutions. At least he's not waiting until 85th minute this time.
  13. Lovenkrands will score heaps of goals up front.
  14. Apparently, Barton is still unavailable. Keeping with the unwritten Butt Rule--- if Nicky Butt can walk, he starts, I think the line up will look like this. Harper Simpson Taylor Colo Enrique Guthrie Nolan Butt Jonas Ameobi Smith

  16. Not looking forward to silly season deadline.... this year?
  17. See how soon Michael Owen gets his next start. Carling Cup match is my guess.
  18. You don't think Barton would be our first choice? Also, I hate saying this, but for some goddamn reason every manager seems to think that if Butt is healthy, he starts.
