Getting an unfancied French side to the CL final and losing to arguably the best manager in the world good enough? Great achievement but is all the hype really coming because of that? He jumped ship when Monaco were 15th after being there 16 months and took an excellent Juventus squad with plenty of top players out of Serie B, he left them after falling out over transfers or something. Like I've said, I'm not knocking the bloke because I don't know that much about him, I'm guessing some on here who are jumping on the bandwagon don't know that much about him either, I'm approaching his appointment with an open mind but I'd like someone to tell me what is so good about him. Isn't he just like Klinsmann/Shearer/Van Basten? I don't see any difference between any in those group. They're all relatively inexperienced but had great footballing careers and is widely respected around the world. On a tangential note, I think each of them are different and it's up to Mort to identify which one of them will fit in with the club best. Frank Rijkaard relegated the first club team he managed, then got sacked. But somehow, for his second job, he was appointed manager of Barcelona. Laporta and co saw something in Rijkaard and knew he'd be good and he's proven them right. I hope Mort/Ashley can be as astute and ambitious. Wouldn't put Deschamps in that group. He's managed two club sides and has no national experience. Van Basten: Netherlands 2004-2008 Shearer: Nothing Klinsmann: Germany 2004-2006 Deschamps: Monaco 2001-2005, Juventus 2006-2007

Manchester United, you mean?
-
omg. (1) He lost Morientes, Giuly, Rothen, Rodriguez, and Prso that summer. (2) The club bought no new players. (3) He resigned.

Never have to say im pretty surprised as well tbh. i reckon, out of those meantioned relaistically, there is more support for deschamps than anyone else Also, he's a bit of an unknown quality. I think many of us remember the Monaco run in the CL and the exciting games they played. Here's hoping....

Well Monaco did play some attacking football.
-
Still time.
-
Well, a good thumping is just what this club needs. They've been getting complacent of late. :-[

We've been out played. But we expected that.
-
Cacapa's been decent.
-
Me? Newcastle. What a silly question.
-
Right. We'd be far better off giving Sam the time and support that he needed. Or at least demonstrate that the club can stick with a manager through a season. If season tickets are a concern, fire him before the last game of the season-- when you've taken the time to look for a suitable replacement.
-
@sicsfingeredmong yep. For me its not so much that we've appointed Redknapp, its that all this talk about building a quality organization was just talk. Disillusioned and disappointed with Ashley. Redknapp is just a step sideways, mort & ashley are a big let down.
-
Yea, just our luck. go figure. We get the billionaire owner who is completely off his rocker.
-
this is insane.
-
Yes. But...I was supporting Allardyce. I supported him. I wasn't happy with the football. Hell I supported Roeder and Souness. What am I going to do? Not give him -- whoever he is -- a chance. The point for me is not that they fired Sam. It is they did it in the middle of the season. I am so sick of this crap. Another false start.
-
It's a step sideways. And taking that step midseason is a mistake. again.
-
Joke is on us. So what happened to that bit about building the organization from the ground up? Long term plans. You know, building a class organization. SHIT SHIT SHIT. I was assuming that Ashley had his shit together. That he wouldn't repeat the same mistakes made in the previous regime-- firing managers midseason. To do something that insane--I thought--means that he must have a big name lined up. Wrong again. So much for new beginnings. Same shit.
-
Got to be Redknapp.
-
Doesn't make any sense to dump Allardyce to replace him with anything but a top class manager. Think that Ashley is an ambitious guy. So that's my guess. Pray to God I'm not wrong.

Sorry, but Taylor wouldn't start in any of the mentioned 4 teams... Wouldn't make the bench.
