This thread could run and run...

Everton being interested in Parker could be an interesting one. If they were, and bearing in mind how much England Internationals get over-valued maybe we could throw in a couple of million as well in an attempt to pick up Arteta - someone who could add a bit of class to the midfield.

I think you're overrating him tbh. He's generally solid and dependable, but not exceptional. Comolli has said Flamini hasn't developed as expected, so maybe a change of scenery would be best for him. Have you seen us?? He's going to want Champions League or thereabouts, not near-relegation candidates. I reckon that's bravado. He's at a club that plays in the Champs League every year, but can't get in. I wouldn't be too surprised if he settled for us, given the wages we pay, if he got paid a fair chunk and played week in week out - which he probably would. I'd be amazed, personally. Although i don't think he'll be this years Rooney/Ronaldo/Rivaldo season ticket-selling lie. I think Fatty might have this season off from that particular routine, and rely on our awe and worship of the £300m white elephant - i mean expansion/redevelopment plan - to boost flagging interest in NUFC. I wouldn't. Owen probably wanted Champs League footy, but money spoke. Same with Martins. Same with Duff, etc., etc. Fact is, money is pretty much the most important factor in football these days. Ask Lucas Neill or Ashley Cole.

Good player, would certainly be nice to pick up a player who could do a good job for us in more than one position. Wenger doesn't tend to demand too much if he deems a player surplus to requirements (e.g. Vieira, Lauren) so if that were to happen in wake of these comments he could be a very good acquisition.

Fair enough, it's just the way it comes across, to me anyway. It's hard to know why you're being curt if all I can see is some text on a screen, seemed like the logical conclusion to come to afaic. No bad thing being an anti-HTT.

Given the uncertainty regarding our best line up (something which is evident when you look at the variance in peoples preferred lineup) I would say the best candidate to be captain is a player who would/should start every game: The only candidate there is Given, for me. The it wouldn't lead to problems like having to drop the captain for specific games, thus causing headache issues. If none of them have looked like a captain than Shay is the only logical choice for me.

Parker couldn't dominate a kids match. Disappointing HTL. Made a lot of good and valid points about Parker and his role in the team etc., ends up making NM-esque childish comments which have no basis in anything to try and provoke a reaction. I thought more of you.... I like it. You say something some nobhead doesn't like, and you're childish. I thought you would be used to the notion of hyperbole by now?! Is it not a slightly childish style to express things in an over-simplified version without going into real detail to explain why you hold such opinions? And do you not think it's fair to say you post a lot of what you do to get a reaction? Otherwise why would you be so curt, and always post things that you know will provoke people? Not having a go at your opinions btw, aree with a number of things you say.

Acuna and Batty are good shouts; not in my top 3 but I certainly had a huge amount of affection for both of them. The memory of Bernard has been somewhat tarnished for me, sadly.

Bowyer's one for me. Always hated the fucker, was gutted when we signed him, and I never thought he was anywhere near good enough. Mike Hooper's another. I was quite young when he played for us, but fuck me he was shit. Gloves made from teflon or something. Last one is quite predictable I guess, but Marcelinho. Was initially pleased when we signed him, on the basis of the favourable reviews that came with him, but I grew more and more frustrated with him as time went on.

I don't really know the point of this thread. Is there anyone who wouldn't swap MON for Glenn right now?
-
Obviously I've missed out players like Cole, Sir Les and Shearer - all of whom gave more to the club than Tino or Daveeed did - and I do love these players as well, but when the question was posed it made me think of breathtaking moments of skill and audacity, the things that - to me at least - make football really exciting.

The three I loved watching play were Pedro, Tino and Ginola. The last two could be infuriating, but were a joy to watch when it was going well.

Gave us half a good season, and £4m profit (if what I've read is to be believed). Also never said anything out of order about the club afaik (Goldfish comments were made by Souness, never by him). Amazes me how much some people hate him.

Arteta is a class act, at the time thought we should go for him before we ended up with Parker. Without Emre we will be devoid of creativity, and I really struggle to think of anyone who could do a job for us there.

If the fans continue to be as vocal as they were against the team yesterday, and this results in attendances dropping by even just a couple of thousand on a regular basis, there is no doubt in my mind he won't be.

The moaning gits who no matter what, piss and moan, and a few of the half arsed lot, to swap them for more bairns, families and people who would love to go, but can't afford to or can't get an ST because not many are up for grabs. Although there could be a few up for grabs come renewal time, so that could give these people an opportunity. Like those who would rather pick and choose their games than renew their season ticket? Because financially they could no longer justify shelling out large sums of money or due to work commitments, don't always have the free time to attend every match these days? In which case, no. Not actually having a dig at your attendance like, you probably go to a fair few matches more than I do, more making a sarcastic point about how it's tough to say what a half-arsed fan is. I've got a mate who supports Arsenal, is very knowledgable, always reading about them etc., but he's never been to a single game! I'd rather have what you call "half-arsed" fans who go to the game than people like him.

HTT in "thinks he's better and more knowledgable than the other fans" shocker. Posts absolute bollocks, doesn't get backed up by anyone and tries to pretend he didn't mean it. If the first couple of replies had agreed with him like fuck would he be backing down! Can't fool em all then eh. Bandwagon jumper!

Hope that helps. Ta. Although I won't remember it for next time, I'll probably just type out my long one again.
-
Roeder's selection policy today was ludicrous. Still, at least he made up for it with some well timed and tactically astute substitutions that deserved to win us the game. Don'tknowthecodeforsmileythatrollseyes.gif

Milner for me. Had a good season but has very few attributes. Can't believe some people would rather he was called up for England than Lennon; I know he's got more goals/assists this season but I know damn well who I'd rather played for NUFC.

I can see where you're going with the idea: I think this plan could be worked with two 'wingers' at fullback. It might take some drilling but Duff has been acceptable at LB and would certainly give us more going forward than anyone else we have at the moment. Similarly, I think N'Zogbia could be drilled to play this role, almost as a wing-back if Duff never hits top gear. This could leave us only needing a centre back, which could yet turn out to be Gooch, although I'm not sure about him by any means yet. We would only need to pick up re-inforcements for the time being, which means we could improve in the short term with minimal expenditure, theoretically. My main problem with this is that I don't think Roeder has the nous or ability to properly drill a team to play this formation properly (I'd probably adapt it by playing Dyer in the role floating behind the strikers, but that's just my take on it); and even if we did we could expect a long transitional period whilst we adapted to the new formation, which would beg the question: are we better off sticking to 4-4-2 until we can afford to improve personnel? Hard to draw a full conclusion as it's only theoretical, obviously, but some good points.
