    The Betting Thread.

Agreed. Never understood betting against your own team. It's not like you'd be pleased if it came in. Just couldn't do it myself.
  2. Isn't Boro his hometown team? I bet ManU fans were saying the same thing about Shearer when he joined us...
  3. Arguably even more right, as HE is actually international class. You must be pleased Dyer's been called up for England? Another chance to 'what a sandwich!! himself right up' eh? I want what's best for my club/country, same as anyone. I just don't think Dire fits that bill for either in the medium/long term. And as an individual, i think he is a loathsome little cnut. My prerogative. That's fair enough, but do you really think that Dyer VW Beetle driving himself up asap is what's good for us now? I know you don't really rate him, and that's fair enough, but would you not say he's deserving of a place on the bench even when everyone is fit at the moment? Bearing in mind that Martins and Owen would start up front, I know I'd certianly rather bring Dyer on up top ahead of Shola or Le Sib if we needed a goal - even if he doesn't play that well with pace like his he'll always be scaring the defenders, and he seems to be forging something of an understanding with Oba. Granted we could do with a new striker, but couldn't you adapt to that by changing your sig to "Here's hoping that Dire fucks himself up as soon as our squad has adequate cover up front'? I agree, as long as i can state (in the centr of midfield", because i'd rather play Le Sib up front, as Dire is no more a striker than he is a winger. I'm sure I can allow you that. I'd personally have Dyer up front ahead of Sib any day, but that's by the by.

  5. Whoever said Agger, that's an excellent call. I forgot about him.
  6. Wouldn't say any of those are unsung. Gallas and Gilberto are grossly underrated imo though, and I think Arteta is a class act. Nemanja Vidic wouldn't be out of place on your list, given the criteria you appear to have used.. What about Steve Sidwell? Looks a class act to me, makes Reading tick. Main one I can think of is Linvoy Primus. Campbell gets all the headlines, but this guy is a beast, absolutely fantastic. Everytime Pompey improve everyone thinks he'll be the next one that needs 'upgrading' - and they're always wrong. Gary Speed is another possibility these days, maybe Gavin McCann for Villa as well. I always rated Nelson at rovers as well, but he doesn't seem to have played this year, anyone know why?

    Michael Chopra

Agree with Gejon for the main part. Look at the top scorers in the Championship: Rasiak, Earnshaw, Chops, Kamara. All played in the prem, none of them did anything. That's not to say you can't find a striker from a lower division who'll do a job in the prem, but banging in a couple of goals in the Championship does not a good player make.

Another chance to 'fuck himself right up' eh? http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=35205.msg700050#msg700050 Cheers Dave, hadn't seen that. Had seen the sig though.

  10. I'll be well fucked off if he gets injured, and would be disappointed if he plays, but that doesn't mean we can withdraw him. Surely we could come to some sort of agreement whereby he plays 45mins at most? Everyone used to right fucking whinge when Fergie tried to take players out of the England squad

    Paul Robinson

Paul Robinson has suffered from hyperbole all his career in my opinion, not dissimilarly to Frank Lampard. When he became the new England number one (after James, who was shit for England) he was touted as one of the better international keepers, world at his feet and only going to get better. This was a massive exaggeration, but as usual the English media/fans reacted too much. He was a decent keeper in good form. Now he's playing worse the scapegoats are out in force. Because he was built up too much, given a higher billing than his talent deserved suddenly, when his for dipped, he was 'shit'. Again, this is not true, imo. He's a decent keeper in poor form. (I also believe this argument holds with regard to Frank Lampard before and after this WC just gone). I think Robinson is a decent keeper, no more, no less. He'll never be a world beater, but he'll always be mid-table premiership standard. That's my take on him anyway.

    New Trivia Question.

I can't for the life of me think who this is. The only player that springs to mind is Paul Stewart but we were in the 2nd division when he played for us. My bad. Check the edit.

trick question? Ziege? No. and no. I'd probably better check mind, going on hazyish memory.

    New Trivia Question.

Only player to play in North London, Manchester, North East South Coast (Pompey v Southampton) and Merseyside derbies? Edit: sorry, could have sworn he'd played for the mackems. Knew the question was about him though, so easy to amend!

    Only 48,000 today?

Not half as bad as the Guardian though - which itself is ten times better than the cesspit of British papers - the laughably misnamed "The Independent" Why's that then?
  16. Surely you'd be saying that even if we didn't have Srnicek?
  17. Why not now, is what i can't understand. He's clearly incapable of filling in if we ever get multiple injuries - so we should just promote him to that coach role, something that we had always intended to do so in the long term. If we ever have another major injury crisis, just loan someone, like many clubs have done so in the past. I would imagine his role, like Lee Clark, is predominantly coaching. However, like Lee Clark, he is registered as a player in a case of emergency. I may well be wrong, but it seems the logical conclusion.
  18. I can only get silence through the BBC website, and Radio Newcastle is covering the Sunderland game. Fuming.
  19. Didn't he play centre back alongside Moore in the WC as well? Might be useful if he is competent in both positions, would mean we weren't relying on Nobby to play every single game.
  20. Billions, not millions. And where do you get this from? Did a 12 year old post it on gg? You truly are a fool. If Barry were to leave us at some point, it certainly wouldn't be to the fourth biggest club in London And as for Defoe, you can keep him. Runs around a lot, doesn't score enough. All fart and no shit. Much like your supporters. Shame other villa fans dont agree with you. The orgy fiesta they were having about Defoe signing was truley hilarious stuff. Defoe stats spurs- 91 starts 50 goals spammers - 72 starts 41 goals bournmouth 29 starts 19 goals Yeah your right he dosent score that much , you lot should stick to your deadley, free scoring strike force of Milan Baros, Chris bloody Sutton, Luke Moore and the own goal, penalty missing expert Angel. But he's never scored more than 13 goals in any Premiership season. You can't dress it up by saying goals from starts either, as I'm sure some of the goals you've included would have been scored when he's came off the bench. Add 36 substitute appearances for spurs, 33 for spammers and 2 for Bournmouth. Still a great record whatever way you decide to look at it. Bit rich of a Villa fan to go on about other teams strikers "not scoring enough goals" dont you think? Not really. If you're linked with someone who would probably cost in excess of £10m, I think you'ore justified to say you can keep him, regardless of whether or not he's better than what you have. If we were being linked with King for £20m I'd say the same thing, even though I think he's a very good player. But the stats show that he does score enough. If that annoying villa fan stated that he didnt want him because he dosent rate him (or another similiar reason) then fair enough. The stats show he has a decent scoring record. Never scoring more than 13 in a premiership season isn't that exciting tbh. I'd say that he probably doesn't score enough for the money he'd cost were anyone to buy him tomorrow.

    Paul Le Guen Leaves

Just stuck £55 on Smith at 4/11 on the basis of reading this http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/6233237.stm BBC better not be fucking me around...
  23. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/6233307.stm Thought to be £5m. I thought that in Etherington and Benayoun they already had two left wingers? Interesting one this.
  24. If, and it's a massive if, Spurs were going for Bent, I'd love to see us move for Keane.
