  1. I can only see one Glenn bigging him up there....
  2. Agreed. He might be qualified to judge which one was most passionate having played in them, but the inherant bias in his statement makes it hard to tell if it's what he really thinks.
  3. There were some poor decisions in that team of the season in my opinion. Neville ahead of Finnan for one, and Carvalho not making the team for another, but never mind. Had he played the whole season in his position then there's no doubt in my mind Essien would have made the player of the season list as well. Amazed Cesc made it, he was barely above Lennon in Young player I would have thought. I'm in two minds about Berbatov making the team; he's clearly a very good player but I really don't think his finishing is that good - see the two games against us for evidence for that. I'd probably have Rooney in ahead of him, even though he's disappointed me a bit this year. McCarthy certainly deserves more recognition than he's had this season.

    Player of the Season

Martins, more on the basis he's been our most important player than necessarily our best.
  5. I agree. It's the sort of common sense squad-strengthening move we could do with though, I reckon. At least it would mean Matty didn't get near the first team again....
  6. Aye. I fucking loved that season. The two games against Leeds and the game against Arsenal are some of my most fondly cherished footballing moments from the post-Keegan era. We were a real joy to watch at times, and I loved it.
  7. I was sad to see Acuna go. Had a lot of time for him.

    Wages crisis?

As you say, Babayaro, Carr and Bramble would need replacements. However, Luque wouldn't need replacing and neither would Parker, if he was shipped out too. Who would you play in the holding role when Butt was injured?
  9. 1. not even mourinho would whine so much about it, the way freddie whined over owen. 2. chelsea would still be title contenders with or without drogba. what are you talking about? When terry was out for a period of weeks all you heard was "well, we're missing our best player" from mourinho. At least roeder didn;t start bitching about injuries until a few months of shit luck. Not shit luck. Shit management and shit transfer activity. I'd say it's shit luck when a sub standard manager isn't abl to call on the one player who might be able to paper over his deficiences to win him games he doesn't deserve to.
  10. We were going through a bad patch. But nobody suitable was available to replace SBR. Sacking him was a decision that has sent this club backwards massively. No, the TIMING of the sacking sent us back massively. What really fucked us, imo, was the announcement it was SBRs last season. Whether or not he should still have been there by that stage is beside the point; when that was said it was obvious to all that a bad run of games would leave his position untenable. And we wouldn't have anyone lined up. Still, at least there was a top manager we managed to prise from the North-West...

    Anelka v Martins

Well I'm sure glad all these crystal balls are in full operation. How else can you judge a players potential? Gary Speed's done a better job for Bolton than Denilson has for Arsenal this season, but who would you rather we had signed at the start of the season? Also, you'll note that, unlike you, I didn't claim to be right. I just said there were a number of reasons why I was glad we'd signed Martins over Anelka despite Anelka (arguably, at best) having a slightly better year this year.
  12. Swap Milner for Dyer and that's how I'd want us to play in most away games. For home games, also swap Parker for Emre. You would not get a decent cross more than once every 5 games or so. Awful midfield. The only way we get decent crosses (on a consistent basis, anyway) is when Nobby overlaps. Milner puts a lot in, but in general it's a weakness in his game.

    Anelka v Martins

Maybe for the short term (i.e. just this season) Anelka would have been [slightly] better for us, but for a number of reasons (not least resale value) I'm pleased that for the long term we got Oba.
  14. Sidwell may not be the perfect player for us, but you can't argue with strenthening the squad like that for no initial outlay. It may turn out he works well with either Parker or Emre - what sort of CM does he play alongside at Reading?
  15. No, I woudl agree with the possible reason given above by 'tomi' - Father dying last season, Being hailed as bright prospect then being dumped for Duff, Best mate (boum) leaving - these may have been factors - not just criticism by a local journo. However, the question is why is Oliver seemingly going after N'Zogbia alone, and not the rest of the player that have underperformed this season - such as Duff, Carr, Babayaro to name a few?? In todays article he even questions who would pay any money for N'Zogbia, given his performances this season??!! It just smacks of a vendetta against the player, nowt else - it can't really be called 'constructive criticism', can it??? MJ for all the s**** players they may be, have Duff, Carr, Babayaro ever refused to play for the club when asked, or bitched when not selected? And Charlie has? Any response to this yet Vic? Are you going to accept you were bulshitting, tell us when Charlie has done these things or try to claim you weren't inferring that Zog has ever refused to play for the club when asked?
  16. You mean them raping us? With Keane as their manager and Roeder as ours this is the likelier scenario. I'd be amazed if that happened. Although Roy Keane does seem to be your new Guiseppe Rossi so anything could happen Neither are as good as [insert name of Watford reserve here] tbh. Aidy Boothroyd's pretty much a genius though, so don't be surprised about that.

  18. Great read, makes me very nostalgic for those heady days. In a way the Asprilla signing summed Keegan up - wanting to pay entertaining football to the cost. He was a sublimely talented player, simply beautiful to watch when on song - I've rarely if ever seen a player like him, but he was brought in without thought for what the team would do with him. I hope I can one day enjoy football the same way - and to the same extent - that I did during the Keegan era.
  19. I'm all for them trying to bring new blood in. Motty is fucking wank. Worked with Logan, she's far better than Linekar.

    Andrew Carroll

actually played really well yesterday Were you there mate? nope...but torrented the match Cool. Didn't realise you could do that with reserves Aye, fatty matty had a good game we should loan him out to a championship side I agree. He won't ever be good enough for us (imo) but if he has a decent season at a championship side we might pick up some moolah for him.
  21. are you kidding? he's got 3 goals and 7 assists in 18 starts and that for someone whose end product doesn't always match his incredible ability to move the ball forward quickly. all in all i'd say his inclusion is well deserved. Thanks for clearing that up mate. Fabregas being on there is a complete joke Read my other post justifying why I thought Lennon shouldn't be in there. I agree on Fabregas though, good player but hasn't quite done it this season - certainly not to the extent that he should be shortlisted. I'd have Gilberto ahead of him on this season, and I don't even think he should be a nailed on for the shortlist.
  22. Went to Gdansk for a short break with some mates recently, quite a decent placde, serves a lot of very cheap beer and Vodka. The girls are stunning and the blokes nutters, as a rule.
  23. Gets the team playing a good attacking game (most of the time), not bad tactically but far from the quickest in making adjustments during a game. Has his pre-game plan and sticks with it. Second leg against just one example. 2-0 down after 8 minutes, need 4 goals to progress. First substitution on the hour and Defoe brought on with 20 minutes to go. If that had been Mourinho in charge, Defoe would have been on before the 15 minute mark. Fair enough, he has his failings, but like I say, how high are Spurs's expectations all of a sudden? Who do you think you could feasibly get that would improve things enough to justify the change? It has to be remembered that Spurs were rubbish not so long ago and are still improving - they're not an established top 5/6 team who are starting to stagnate under the management like you could say we were when SBR was fired. Seems a silly idea to think about removing him now, if you ask me. (Which I'm well aware you didn't )
  24. Hughes, O'Neill and Jol. Don't know what Spurs are complaining about with Jol, he's the best manager they've had in my lifetime [of football watching] they've got a goodish team [again, the best I can ever remember them having] with a lot of potential and play exciting attacking football. What level of acheivement are they looking for?!
