  1. Wacko's well-rehearsed and bang on message, like. This will be precisely the scousers' defence.
  2. Not that different from Chelsea, except even more staggeringly large sums of money involved. Very little in common with Blackburn. f*** all in common with Man U. Do you not think Blackburn bought the title in 95 then?, yes the sums were much smaller, but compared to everybody else they were spending a lot more. As for Man U, they have just spent hundreds of millions over a much larger scale of time than anyone else. Jack Walker was a local businessman and Blackburn fan. As different from Abu fucking Dhabi as the sums currently involved. As for Man U, they earned the money they spent. They weren't just given it by some obscenely rich plutocrat in search of global good publicity.

  4. I thought they looked a bit apprehensive, which seems understandable.
  5. Personally I hope it'll be an ugly, mean-spirited 0-0 with lots of injuries and sendings-off.
  6. More than likely, everyone will be owned by a "horrible Arab" or other arbitrarily rich person within the deckade. Except for us, obviously we'll still be stuck with Ashley An abitrarily rich person.
  7. £197 million. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/nov/18/manchester-city-biggest-ever-loss

  9. The articles in their "journal" are all written by academics: http://www.imrpublications.com/journal-landing.aspx?volno=L&no=L
  10. Or you could say that travel and/or living in other cultures broadens the mind and gives you less of a goldfish-bowl perspective. I live in a country, for example, where all but two of the top-tier clubs play in branded stadiums and the world of football has not come to an end. My brother, fwiw, slightly younger than me but who also went to his first games in the 1960s, lives in Newcastle and broadly shares my view of all this -- ie the name change is a bit of a shame, but ultimately no big deal.
  11. He said on his twitter that all mackems were ugly and there was a 50 page thread on RTG.
  12. Good post, Cronky. I'd been thinking of making some of the same observations myself.
  13. Was just talking to an Eintracht Frankfurt supporter. Like most German stadiums, theirs is branded. "The official name is the Commerzbank Stadion but nobody calls it that. We still call it the Waldstadion."

    Classy

    Not nearly as bad.
  15. I hope Allardyce is now going to change the name of his villa to Casa Sports Direct.

why should we be a laughing stock? the press are printing this garbage because they think they will get a big reaction from us, the toon army. and we are playing into their hands. every time! i personally don't give a damn what llambias has said because he isnt that far from the truth. whats the big controversy??? Keegan - absolutely correct Shearer - looks correct Hughton - not sure, may be correct, but calling him indecisive is hardly the worst thing ever Carroll - so far, correct the media always play with us like this, pull on our heart strings bacause they know easy it is to get an uproar reaction from our fans, they know we the most emotional and passionate fans out there, and i feel sick and tired of our gullable fans falling for it hook line and sinker everytime. can't we just bloody ignore that twat llambias and the press for once and just fukking carry own supporting our eleven men out on the field thats actually doing the business for us, its them that really matters, not derek or ashley. or the fukking press or any kunt that goes around recording peoples conversations.
  17. I think this is a totally daft fucking post, to be honest. The name of the stadium has fuck all to do with why I support Newcastle. And when I first went to a game, at the age of 11, many years before most of the people on this forum were even born, before a single brick of the current St James' Park was in place, more than 20 years before the club acquired the crest it currently uses, tradition was the last thing on my young mind.

  19. I live in Germany. Most people here would go apeshit if the national team wore such a thing, and especially if the players themselves were given no choice in the matter. It would be seen, in this today largely pacifistic nation, as a glorification of war. I'm sure plenty of other countries, probably including this one, would have plenty to say about it too. Not that anyone could possibly construe this as political or anything.
  20. Stop wriggling and face the question. If the German national team wanted to wear a symbol to honour their war dead, you'd see that as uncontroversial and support the idea?
  21. Did I just hear this French journo speak of "Laurent Bernard"?
  22. Some "symbol of respect" for their war dead. So you have no idea how the 3 countries that you mentioned commeorate their lost? Or even if they do so already? Symbols of respect for individuals who've lost their lives shouldn't ever be omitted by force. The poppy promotes peace between nations, if anything. You're drifting off into drivel. Try tuning your brain in a bit more carefully, and consider the question I was actually asking. Your question has neither potence nor relevance without an example. It was a hypothetical question, so how could it have an example? Why not just admit that you don't have any answer because it's a totally valid point? Of course this fucking issue can be "linked to politics". Even the dimwits of the English Defence League can see that.
