  1. It would depend a bit on the game. If, earlier on, some crucial decisions had unfairly gone against us -- pen not awarded or something -- then I'd probably regard it as poetic justice.

    Pies

In a bar the other night, a German friend of mine, an old and slightly crazy character, began rattling on at me about "the pies". I hadn't a fucking clue what he was talking about at first, but then I realized he was shortening "magpies" and trying to talk about the Toon. Had to explain to him that a magpie was an Elster, not a Pastete.
  3. McClaren for England -- again? Richard Williams makes quite a good case: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/sep/28/steve-mcclaren-england-wolfsburg-twente-enschede

    Sports Direct

Hmm. my thoughts exactly, if thats the case why not come out and say we are getting X amount per year from sports direct. Because they haven't sold the naming rights to Sports Direct, they've put the signs up in order to sell the naming rights. i read after the approval had been given that the guy who went to the council meeting on behalf of nufc said sports direct were the only bidders Yeah, because they haven't yet sold the naming rights. I get the feeling we were never really looking to sell them as at the time the number empty corporate boxes looked at record high so the corporate £££'s were clearly not there & are still not at the levels they were. I have a feeling that's utter bollocks. What on earth have corporate boxes got to do with naming rights? Boxes are used for entertaining, naming rights (and great big signs on the sides of buildings) are used for advertising.

  7. Well, I only saw that from the 56th minute, but we never looked remotely in it during all that time.
  8. Why shouldn't Shearer be expected to do a bit of research? When the Toon played Ferencváros in 1996, a friend of mine -- a then Budapest-based Reuters football correspondent -- was introduced to John Motson before the match, and was impressed that Motson was immediately full of questions -- how should he pronounce this or that player's name, questions about the club's history and its fans. He pulled out a notebook and was scribbling down the answers. That's professionalism. It's not good enough to just turn up and talk any old s****. Shearer's supposed to be some kind of expert. I watched last night and couldn't help but notice how asinine most of what he says is. It's as if their research comprises reading the papers for different ways to state the obvious. Agreed. I think he's probably not actually that bright. We get it you dont like Shearer . You think he's some kind of mental genius?

  10. To be fair to Lineker, he's not supposed to express opinions. He's there to present the show and direct the conversation.

  12. Good point. While I believe that CH is making the calls - it seems he is open to other peoples opinions. I think I read somewhere that CH is a socialist, which may influence his approach as manager. At one point he was the football columnist on Newsline, which was a daily Trotskyist newspaper kept going (with £££ from Vanessa Redgrave) by the Workers' Revolutionary Party.
  13. Whatever the League Cup means or doesn't mean, last night was a fantastic game of football that all 22 players on the pitch, and all 40,000 in the crowd, were working their hardest to win. That any Toon fan can moan about or belittle the fact that we emerged victorious from such a tremendous match beggars belief, frankly. But then, "Malandro"...
  14. It makes me laugh. Weve had years of people pontificating about how the club couldnt keep on borrowing money. Yet thats exactly what the club has been doing since Mr Ashley took over (the debt has now near enough doubled) and for some strange reason theyve all gone very quiet on the subject. How would you know, having only in February introduced us to your distinctive brand of misery-mongering? Are you suggesting that malandro has been here before? It seems incredible, but perhaps it is true. Double :yikes:

  16. FFS. Don't take it so seriously. Anyone that views this with a modicum of intelligence, will realise it's a probability related poll. Pity you didn't compose the title with a modicum of intelligence.

  18. Straightforward and very fair report on the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/league_cup/9010051.stm Maybe the media don't hate us?
  19. We should definitely stick with the young players and second-stringers. They deserve their chance, as tonight has proved royally, and I'd rather see us blood youngsters and experiment with line-ups in this competition than in the Prem. I'll be happy if we win the Carling Cup but not overly gutted if we get knocked out. Bit of strategic strengthening would do no harm if get close to the final.
  20. I'm glad someone else has noticed that. You should of said something during the match mate. Are you kidding? I did. Use your search button. http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,71632.msg2527018.html#msg2527018 I still don't get it. You've just linked me to your reply to a post I made about Lovenkrands. I have always been a defender of Shola. He's not the greatest, but he's nowhere near the useless fucker that most fans suggest. He can drive you mad when he miscontrols the ball, but he does cause defenders problems in certain situations and he never hides. He definitely has his moments. Shola was as good tonight against Chelsea as he was against Forest last season. Maybe better. Then he scored one and set up another, tonight he scored two, fluffed a sitter, and set up a great chance for Lovenkrands to fluff.
  21. Only Malandro could be miserable after a game like that.
  22. Get the fuck in, Sherla! Just got home and tuned in to this. Magnificent!
