Didnt Barton do the same allegedly? To The wanker i mean not done to him Possibly. But that would mean Pardew isn't a yes man and is picking Barton despite him falling out with the hierarchy. Doesn't really compute with the conspiracy theories.
  2. You've hired the wrong manager mate. Arsenal and Spurs will sign the right players even if it's later in the window and you will be left scratching your head wondering how the fuck did we spend the best part of £100m on players who were considered shit in the Championshp just 12 months ago.
  3. He's a Man U reject who was never even considered first team material and he spent a year at Sunderland without getting offered a better contract than we could offer in the Championship. I don't see how he has improved in any way while he's been here other than raise his profile by being at a more glamorous club.
  4. Well of course he has. But if we feel that we can get a better player in - and we've got plenty of time to do that - why offer him a longer / bigger contract? It really all boils down to how much you rate him as a player, and amidst all the wringing of hands I haven't noticed one post that says he's a good player who we need to keep. This was the initial post I had replied to, hadn't spoken about anything regarding the one you were agreeing with. Crossed wires? People are jumpy because they think we will sell Simpson without replacing him this season because of what happened with Enrique. But he had one year left on his contract and was a top quality full back. Simpson is one of three fairly average right backs at the club and he's still got 2 years left on his contract. There's really not the same worry from me about his situation as there seems to be among others.
  5. If you think you will be back in the CL with such an insular view as that while Man City are buying Aguero and Chelsea are hunting down Modric you need help. Suarez has been the best buy Liverpool made in the last 12 months and that was probably done over King Kunny's head.
  6. Cronky said "We don't need to replace him in this window. He's got 2 years left on his contract." That's what I was agreeing with.

It really all boils down to how much you rate him as a player, and amidst all the wringing of hands I haven't noticed one post that says he's a good player who we need to keep. Has that been the point made by anyone, though? Might have missed it, but most people seem to be worried that we could sell him and then struggle to replace him with anyone better. How much you rate him as a player and how easy it would be to replace him with someone better are inter-related questions, aren't they? We replaced Nolan with someone better so I can't see why we couldn't do the same with Simpson. Nice to see somebody with such a sunny outlook at this present moment, but I have to point out that Cabaye has proven nothing here yet, same goes for Ba (Carroll) and whoever comes in to replace Jose. People are rightly concerned about our ability to invest/improve and are equally content with Simpson as our right-back option, from what I can see, so they're naturally skeptical about simply selling him because "we can get better". I don't think you're necessarily wrong in relation to Simpson (don't really rate him, but still like him), but you do appear to be a bit disconnected from the current climate of things as far as incomings/outgoings are concerned. We are just assuming that Simpson will be sold, that doesn't mean he will be just because we aren't giving him the terms he wants at this point. Cronky's right, there are two years left on his contract. If we wanted to sell him we probably wouldn't have even opened negotiations yet.
  8. I think Pardew is the most important man for us tomorrow. He'll need to set us up right to make the most of the players he's got at his disposal, something he didn't do last week with Ba in particular. I just hope it's one of Pards more inspired days tactically rather than the odd brain fart match he's liable to produce every now and then.
  9. It all sounds great...and then Liverpool 1 Sunderland 1 brings you crashing back down to earth.
  10. What's the point in throwing in a derisory offer then refusing to negotiate? All it's done, assuming he is any good, is alert other clubs to the fact they can pick up a promising keeper for a very reasonable fee while we watch on the sidelines like idiots.
  11. Don't want to suggest stuff like that on here... Why not? It sounds like a great plan. Drive out Ashley by riots and boycotts, cash strapping the club then use Facebook to pressure Arab/Russian billionaires to launch an audacious takeover. It's been well thought out for sure.

Careful now. You're not supposed to put things in context in this thread. Have a word.
  13. Don't blame him. Of course you don't, it's every Newcastle supporters dream to wank over the glory of the Mersey legends Their owners are showing more ambition than ours. End of. Good point. I shall get a picture of Liverpool's owners framed, hang it on the wall over scented candles, then toss over it while wearing a Liverpool top every night.

He claimed Llambias shook hands on the deal and then it was withdrawn. I don't really see what that's got to do with Pardew.

But didn't Nolan later say he felt let down by Pardew? If Nolan thought Pardew was going to get the club to offer him a 4 year contract he was asking a bit much of him. FWIW I think Pardew has handled Joey quite well. It would have been easy to sideline him if he felt Barton wasn't 100% behind him but he's been mature about it and got him back onside, for now at any rate.
  17. I think we'd have bought Pieters at £4-5m, but when his club asked for £6m we probably thought we can get Cisskho for around that. Even if it's more it's probably a better deal so if we do it then I would agree it was the right thing to pull out of the Pieters deal.
  18. Just as well Tiote probably doesn't understand the term "piss off" otherwise he'd have stuck the nut on Llambias.
  19. Well IMO he's only a passable right back anyway. QPR are the sort of calibre team he would probably attract, and if he's asking for bigger pay because he's at Newcastle it might be he's over-rating himself a bit. I wouldn't be fussed at selling him if I thought we would go out and sign a genuine quality RB but with us that isn't likely so....
  20. The threads been bumped a couple of weeks too soon. A bit early to be declaring victory in the anti-Ashley campaign. Just be patient your moment might still yet come.
  21. I thought they did approach/offer Bobby the job (when KK left), but he wouldn't walk away from Barcelona at the time? I am just going off a John Hall quote at the time. He said he was good friends with Bobby and had discussed the job with him but his son and Freddie were more keen on Dalglish. Hall seems to have a lot more football sense than many. He was recommending Martinez as a potentially good manager a long time before he became a household name.

So what point is it we are arguing? Is that the Andy Gorgam 'we'? You're currently arguing against yourself mate. More vague waffle. If you think I've missed the point about what was being said feel free to clear it up any time.
  23. The good times were despite Shepherd not because of him. John Hall was the driving force behind appointing Bobby Robson, he wanted to appoint him earlier but Shepherd and Hall Jr. persuaded him to appoint Dalglish instead.
