I don't think we have brought in a senior goalkeeper so that isn't really a contradiction. So what is he then? Depends how you define senior I suppose. Rob Green would be a senior for me. A 25 year old playing for Charlton not so much. Senior means in the senior squad, Pardew never said we wouldn't be getting a GILPIG (Grandad I'd Like To Play In Goal). It tends to be flexible according to your slant IMO. When we sold Given as a 31 year old everyone was up in arms because as a GK he still had "years ahead of him". That makes Elliott a veritable babe in arms in comparison at 25.

If we drop points because we aren't strong enough by Sep 1st then those points might well cost us more than £1-2m.

Isn't Forster in the final year of his contract anyway?
-
Caulkin is good friends with Harper isn't he? It would seem Harper is being phased out.
-
We are signing this lad because he's got a year left on his contract, not because he's the best young keeper we can find. Still, I hope the scouts really have liked what they see. It's difficult not to be cynical when the policy becomes so transparent.

Elliot may have been finished by the time we re-signed him, but he was a good player when he was first here. Infact we should never have sold him, the same applies to Watson and Clark as well. All local lads who were good enough, and would have busted a gut while wearing the shirt for years. Watson and Elliott were both decent players but Alan Thompson was the one I always thought we got shot of too quickly. Madly competitive and a cracking left foot. Don't think he was ever as good as Salty. Actually, we should never have sold Salty, as he would have easily still done a job for us when Daveeeed sulked post-Arsenal. I saw Thompson more as a central midfielder though so he wouldn't have competed with Sellars.

Between Forster and Elliott I bet Elliott won't go on to be the higher value keeper.

I mean in terms of who we've signed. Would you be complaining had it been, for example... Cabaye - £7m, Ba - £7.5m - Marveaux - £5m without any Freebies? I don't think they're unreasonable valuations either. At this point hypothetical valuations mean nothing, if these guys start producing on the pitch no one will mind that they cost relative peanuts. The truth is only Obertan excelled against Arsenal and looked the part. Cabaye was tidy at best, Marveaux is still absent and Ba was taken off and may well not even start against Sunderland. Until we get these guys on the pitch putting in match winning performances there will be disappointment at the transfer dealings so far. That isn't to say these aren't good players but we'll need to see it against Sunderland to get everyone on board.

Would be a canny signing, under 25, would be on lowish wages, hits all the right notes! What's his value anyone know? Around £5m City are looking for Leicester had a £4.5m bid rejected. I would also like to sign him. I live in Bristol so have seen him play a few times. Inferior to Gary Hooper, but costing nearly double? Strange price tag. I think City want a bidding war to start and get as much as £5m very good player though Two goals today will just have added to his already inflated price tag.

If we'd got that pacy striker in time we could have tore them a new one. Ifs and buts though. Start Obertan and he can tear them one anyway.
-
That's if Pardew has either the balls or the insight to press Sunderland on their own ground. It will be interesting to see what the answer is.

What the hell happened to your sig, Wiggum? It was the only thing keeping me going I like these tits much nicer tbh. Do you like them lopsided then? these are less lop sided than the other ones tbf.
-
If Shepherd was still in charge, I'd say possibly - this is the one result that could of forced his hand (as it did with Gullit). Ashley, though.... nah. Difference with Shepherd would have been that we already would have made some expensive transfers probably. If it was Shepherd in charge we'd have spent £20m on one hollywood signing then filled the rest of the side with cheap and cheerful no marks.

Marveaux can score goals and takes dead ball kicks so he can definitely deliver better end product than Routledge. Hope he's back for Saturday just to put the shits up the wearsiders.
-
If we get the right player in then it will have been worth holding out, even though it might well impact our game against Sunderland. I don't know much about any of these full backs tbh, but I assume they are quality judging by their price tags. If were to lose the derby then sign Bridges on loan at the end of the window there is going to be some very angry people. I just hope that isn't a serious consideration.
-
Same here. Or Ba alongside Best if Ba doesn't like playing as a target man.
-
We probably thought we could pick him up for £4m and that's why we are bidding for three different left backs hoping that will panic one of the clubs into selling for a lower price. The problem is none of them are desperate to sell so all this daft bartering is not going to get us anywhere except nearer deadline day with no left back.
-
I can actually imagine you talking like George Takei. You're probably a lot more girly than him though... for some strange reason I can picture you talking like Mahatma Gandhi, god knows why.
-
If the quotes in there are true though, then it looks like they intend to hold onto him until/beyond the weekend (at least), which probably rules him out of signing before the derby. It was fairly obvious this one was going to drag, we absolutely need a left back before the weekend though. Honestly I think we need to forget about getting anybody in for the Sunderland game, it's going to be a relief for me if we get the left back and striker in before the window closes as things stand.
