I said early doors that my worry would be over the long term whether he would be able to maintain a good spirit at the club and keep the players onside. It's too early to judge on that yet or on much else really. But for now the squad seems happy enough and the results have been ok. I'd agree with that. There were problems with both adapting to the pace of the premier but if you didn't just look at the negatives it was clear even then that they had some fantastic defensive attributes. The player who has probably got a lot of stick off me is Nolan and he's had a great season so far in goal terms at least. I think he'll have a hard time against Spurs though. I didn't want him here because I prefer players who are mobile.

But that's precisely the reasons (in bold) why Guthrie has been rubbish in too many games. He doesn't run enough, he doesn't want the ball and if he's not up for it will hide from the action. Technically he has the ability to be a much better player than he's show. Mentally he's weak IMO.

I don't see too much wrong with that thinking tbh. While Best and Ameobi aren't good enough, we aren't going to spend the sort of money it would cost to buy a real quality striker. A decent wide player or full back might be more in our price bracket.

Not surprising really, Bent absolutely hated being in Sunderland that much was obvious. At least the mackems have got a good fee for him, but buying quality strikers isn't easy. They'll probably spend the money on Wellbeck who'll promptly stop scoring once he's got a contract.

He's quicker than Lampard. It's not all about pace if his vision and passing range is as good as you say. Lampard seems to get into more dangerous areas but I don't think technique wise he's anywhere near as good as Barton.

I think if he was a yard quicker he'd be playing for England. He's got more vision and passing range than those in front of him.

Nee chance. Can't see anyone other than the top 5 winning the two cups and we're not going to come 5th. Plus we are going to have key players out for a couple more games at least.
