We might still get him assuming we were ever serious about him and it wasn't a smokescreen. He'd dovetail nicely with Nolan as they work different areas of the pitch.

While I'm glad to get these two in, I hope they are just squad fillers, because these aren't the type of signings which will get us back amongst the big hitters. These are the type of players who normally swap hands at lower Prem sides. We can have one or two grafters as long as they compliment flair players, but the nearest we have to those at the moment are Jonas and Duff ( ) I'm concerned at which direction we are headed unless there's more signings to come.

Add to that, I still think we should sign someone like M'bia because he would replace Butt, whereas Nolan is replacing Barton/Guthrie.

In the short term it was probably sensible to go for Premier-ready players, but to improve as a football team the other two would be better in the long run.

Hasn't the deadline for which players can play on Sunday already passed, therefore anyone we sign between now and then has no bearing on team selection for Sunday? It's got nothing to do with Sunday, I just don't think we will be looking to buy another midfielder if Butt is fit. We've still got Barton and Guthrie on our books.
