  1. The only part of that which personally gives me any pause is the morality of it. The history is past, innocent people will definitely have died due to faulty evidence, being stitched up and just the general clamour for vengeance in times gone by. But the faulty evidence and innocent victims would be fixed by DNA matching, and just making sure the proof of the crime is irrefutable which is a lot more achievable these days. But what I guess is the real sticking point is the morality of dishing out death as a punishment at all. That I can identify with, it does feel wrong. But is it much different to when we justify going to war and dropping bombs somewhere?
  2. Well you could make a case for it, all that money saved on looking after murderers for the rest of their lives could be put to better use.
  3. Revenge is a powerful reason though. If you were the parents of a child killed by the Moors murders, I could understand them wanting their killers hanged or whatever method they use. They would be thinking my girl or boy isn't going to get the chance for mercy, why should Ian Brady or Myra Hindley have it? Also have to consider that keeping prisoners in jail for life costs money, and we all pay for it.
  4. Sounds like Willock will be back, so we should at least be able to go back to a three man midfield, but it's the loss of Joelinton which we are feeling most IMO. Bruno is a straight swap for Shelvey, so that's an upgrade for me, but there's no replacement for Jo's pace and power in the middle.
  5. British people by and large don't believe in capital punishment regardless of who the criminals are, terrorists or otherwise.
  6. Hmmm...wonder what they saw in Murphy's performances that made them think, yeah he'll do for me. Don't get me wrong, he puts a shift in, but he was mostly bad against Chelsea.
  7. He's literally sat there smiling next to a guy who had a journalist dismembered. Puts the constant sniping at Howe into perspective.
  8. I actually really like Tuchel, will be pleased if he leaves Chelsea for another club, as long as it's not Man U.
  9. He's signed a new contract though so it must be going pretty well. Maybe he just likes being in Spain, so fair enough tbh, doesn't make him a bad player. Just the wrong one for us.
  10. That's fine, the journalists can ask their questions and Eddie can keep telling them "sorry ladies and gentlemen, I'm only here to talk about the football. Next question please..."
  11. Just said this exact same thing in the other thread.
  12. I'm sure from a legal standpoint you are right, but Tuchel knows that Abramovich is in position to sanction him if he says something the Russian doesn't like. In reality, Tuchel's own future as a boss in England would be more at risk if he turned a blind eye. Howe's situation is very different in that he is working for owners who are present and fully empowered to react negatively to any perceived criticism.
  13. This just makes me appreciate Howe dead-batting the questions even more. Must be really infuriating for those who don't like the idea of NUFC being on the up and richer than the super clubs.
  14. Technically he's still the owner, but in reality he's not. Tuchel would certainly find it a lot easier to speak up against Russia now that Abramovich has been sanctioned and effectively thrown out of Chelsea football club. Howe is not really in the same position is he?
  15. It is weird like. I can understand on Sunday there was going to be a backlash because of the executions in SA, but it still felt like that was more to take the focus off Chelsea. Tuchel has had a very sympathetic press, and deservedly so, but I don't think it's fair to deride Howe for not speaking up more against our owners. For a start they are still his employers whereas Tuchel's boss has been kicked out. That does make it a lot easier for him to be more expressive. At the end of the day, NUFC ownership is not involved with the invasion of another country. If anything, we as a nation, seem to have really close ties to Saudi Arabia.
  16. The truth is he's found his level. He would never have been fine here, you can't train three days a week and expect it to work at PL level.
  17. I still subscribe to the Times only through habit, but I barely read any of the main stories. I flick through the sports section and the culture part, the rest is a waste of time. I couldn't read the Guardian either.
  18. He's brilliant isn't he?
  19. How come their shitty stadium still has a capacity less than ours after 20 years of success then? Because they are a fucking small time club mate, they always were.
  20. Around top 2 or 3 before that although at that time it was only two teams qualifying for CL iirc. we were a bigger team than them for a lot longer prior to Abramovich.
  21. That's how it works. The figures made 50 shades of Grey author a millionaire, is that any less ridiculous?
  22. Pretty sure we'd been around CL positions at the same time.
  23. But that's professional sport, I guess the argument would be, once money comes into it, why should it be any different to any other profession?
  24. They're not that out of touch, they know that once they are disassociated with Abramovich, the govt and the PL will probably bend over backwards to get them back onboard.
