I honestly find it hard to believe that Villa are going to pay Digne £200k a week, he can demand whatever he likes. I also think if Martial showed interest in coming here on loan, we'd do the deal. Just a hunch though.

What makes you think our wage structure is going to be set low enough to prevent us making big signings? With Digne and Martial the problem seems to be location not money.

Martin Samuels was pushing that line, but I don't really buy it. Coutinho went to Villa because he already knew him from when they played together, that's no different to Howe and Trippier having been at the same club. Digne seems to have preferred them more down to being further south, and currently in a far healthier league position. I don't think this has much to do with Gerrard.

You are looking at it now, and that's fair enough, but ultimately I would think within the next couple of years we should overtake them - provided we can stay up. Fair play to Villa for ploughing big money into the squad, but ultimately no one has a bigger wallet than us. It was always going to take a year or two after we've had no investment for a decade.
