  1. that team would like awesome with a top class CM Plus a better winger than Milner and a good target man. I'd have Jonas on the right with N'Zogbia on the left myself, but I think Milner's pre-season form will get him the nod.
  2. Feel a lot more positive with Colo, Jonas and Martins all potentially starting. Given, Beye Taylor Coloccini Enrique Milner Butt Guthrie Jonas Martins Duff Is my bet for how we'll line up, and while I still have to bet that we'll lose I think we'll give it a good go and make Man U work for it. 2/3 - 1 to Man U is my bet, with us being well in the game until late on.
  3. You don't think Taylor can improve to the level that Faye was at this past year Tooj?
  4. Have people entertained the notion that maybe, just maybe, Taylor might improve next year? Better partner beside him, hopefully better midfield to protect him, a year older, better manager that'll give him some confidence. Any of these things of any interest to people? Or has he been given up on entirely? I'd agree Faye is the better player right now, but he's hardly amazing by any means and I'd say with the right coaching Taylor can easily improve to his level. Being younger it's a pretty logical move having him in front of Faye as far as I can see.
  5. Either way, I'd say part of what makes Villa work is that they have a lot pace in the attacking third to feed off Carew. How do you see Milner fitting in then? There's only so much that good coaching can do as far as I'm concerned, and I'll be very, very surprised if Milner is ever considered a good crosser of the ball, though a bit of improvement to make his crossing more consistent will doubtless be a big help to his game, given the amount of truly abysmal crosses he does put in.
  6. Strange that this one seems to have legs, I've been dismissing it since it happened. Anyway, would appear that KK sees Taylor as part of both the future and present Newcastle team if he's prepared to let Faye leave. Reckon there'll be a few people upset with that.
  7. I agree, but it's why I could see him signing Milner as it's the only way he seems to know. Edit: I'm assuming you mean in the league, and aren't being a smart arse.
  8. Villa after Milner seems a strange one, as part of what made them so effective last year was the sheer pace and directness of player like Young and Agbonlahor out wide, teams couldn't deal with it. Not even Jon will argue that Milner is suited to that sort of style so the only thing I can think of is that they'll look to play him centrally and take advantage of his engine and Villa's relatively direct style. Rafa is an easy one to figure out. He hasn't got it in him to bring in a proper flair player that'll really make a difference for them in wide areas so Milner is another Rafa type of player. Hard-working, versatile and able to produce the odd moment here or there that'll justify bringing him in.
  9. On the other hand we'll look pretty stupid if Man U have an off day and nick a one goal win because Taylor drops a clanger to gift them their winner. If he's fit he should play, nobody's gonna hold a bad performance at Man U against him (well some people will, but they'll be mongs).
  10. He has a point though Jon, you're generally as laid back and easy going as anyone but once the Milner topic comes up you turn into NE5 on steroids.
  11. If we can't play Colo or Jonas then. Given, Beye, Cacapa, Taylor, Enrique, Milner, Butt, Guthrie, N'Zogbia, Duff, Owen Would be the team I'd imagine. Smith playing up top if Owen isn't available. Jonas in instead of Milner, Zoggy or Duff if available, Colo in for Cacapa.
  12. You do have to wonder why it hasn't been announced or anything. It was a week ago that Depor announced he was off, and when we saw Ashley wearing his shirt last Saturday I just assumed that it was a done deal and that we'd officially announce it after the game or something. Risky business wearing that shirt if it wasn't 100% a done deal, if it were to fall through it'd be incredibly embarrassing. So I have to assume it's a done deal, and if that's the case what's to be gained from not announcing it?
  13. Shak

    Tiago on loan?

Sounds promising, be a great signing if we could pull it off. He and Guthrie has the potential to be a very nice partnership, two good all-round midfielders who'd give us a very nice engine room.
  14. Agree with this entirely.
  15. Warnock is hardly Ashley Cole though is he? I can't imagine Warnock will be getting guaranteed first team football if he comes here or be getting excessive wages or anything, so what's the problem? If Enrique plays as well as he's capable of then he'll get his place ahead of him. We need another LB, and I'd rather get someone solid like Warnock who can actually be of use than signing some useless back-up just for the sake of guaranteeing Enrique his spot in the team.
  16. yourself and shak can read all the subsequent posts to mine to answer your own questions and yes its exactly like zog/duff in that we might be attempting to sign an older player with less appeal to replace...well you know the story, i'm fuckin sick of repeatin it tbh To replace what? A young defender who still hasn't proven anything at all as far as I can see. He has the makings of a solid full-back yeah, but he's hardly pulled up any trees whenever he's played. He's looked a promising young talent who MIGHT turn into a good player for us. N'Zogbia on the other hand had arguably been our best player in that season and we should have been comfortable with him as our first choice left winger going into the following season, as he had proven he was a capable Premiership player. Also Warnock won't come in with the practical gaurantee that he'll be first choice like Duff did. Duff only left Chelsea for regular first team football after it became evident he wasn't getting his game at Chelsea. Warnock on the other hand will be coming here looking to prove himself and I have full confidence that if Enrique proves to be the better player he'll get the nod to start from Keegan, which was never going to be the case with Duff and Zoggy with Roeder in charge. So no, not the same thing at all I'm afraid. our best left back last season, zog was our best left winger that season, both young and improving oranges and oranges mate, spin it however you want we're supposed to be a "developing talent" club now aren't we? what message are we sending to a spanish u21 international by signing somewhere 4 years older than him for the same position? oh and we disagree, i personally see no reason, other than money, why warnock would come unless guaranteed games, and we're not in the business of giving silly wages away any more, are we? Aye, our best by virtue of being our ONLY left-back. Depends on what sort of character Warnock is I suppose, but we're a step up from Blackburn so maybe he's just looking to progress in his career and fancies his chances of beating out Enrique. Conversely, Enrique gets competition but from someone he'll have a chance of beating out if he plays well. I doubt we'll be paying Warnock silly wages either way. What's the point of signing a young up and coming LB to compete with Enrique btw? Isn't that what Enrique is? Makes more sense to have a solid alternate to me, rather than two young players to develop when oly one of hem can play.
