Your assumption is correct methinks as in 4th would have to accept the Europa League while the CL winners who finish 5th would be let into the CL.

I'd imagine that Arsenal would be let into the CL (they'll use Liverpool as an example), how that impacts the Europa League spaces however is quite a puzzler. Hmmm.... I think, enforced mainly by Uefa, is that 4th place would then go into the Europa League, won't they? But then whoever finishes 4th would feel aggrieved of a place in the CL, they would cite the Liverpool/Everton example to argue their point.... I think UEFA let Liverpool in begrudgingly and effectively said it would be the last time that was allowed to happen iirc. Ah, didn't realise this.

I haven't seen loads of Vertonghen, but looking at the clubs' defences you've posted there, it's not hard to put forward some arguments why they'd need strengthening. Man Utd - Vidic is very good, Ferdinand is (has been) going downhill fast, Jones lacks experience (is he a natural CB?) Chelsea - Luiz has been unreliable on a spectacular basis, Cahill IMO is overrated, Terry I still think is a very good defender. Arsenal - does this really need to be discussed? Man City - Kompany has been the best defender in the league this year, Lescott is decent enough but you can easily improve on him, Toure's days there are numbered I'd imagine. Tottenham - King has a part-time job in being dead, Kaboul and Gallas are decent but again, easily can be improved upon. ^ This is basically what I think too. Vertonghen would improve all those defences like.

Looking like this is indeed the case......

Daniel Taylor (don't know who he is mind.....).

Tempting fate there....... My sums were wrong originally, it's even worse than that, edited. Oh, brilliant! Don't know which one p*ssed me off more, the fact that Stephen Carr captained a side to League Cup victory or the fact Owen actually contributed to Man U's win a couple of years back

Or maybe in the squad for Brighton considering Colo's knock? Quite possibly.

Indeed I'm not even a fan of the "EPL" either.

Good signing, he's a very decent player. Thought he would have been good for us as a CB who can cover RB, but maybe he wants guaranteed first-team football. Wasn't there talk of quite lofty wages? Not kept up on it too much though. There was indeed talk, think the figure was something like £80k a week? Doubt that it's actually anywhere near that level though...... I reckon QPR have matched the wage he was earning at City.

Think we could see Lovenkrands at some point on Saturday.....

Qualification through the Fair Play League comes into play at the end of the season. UEFA awards extra Europa League places to the three highest scoring nations (the scores being in terms of "Fair Play Coefficients"). The fair play league doesn't really matter. There is a possibility that England could end up not being one of the three highest scoring nations.

Actually.....yeah, from what I've seen of Brighton, they do play the ball quite a bit along the deck. Could very well suit Perch.
-
Uh oh, that means that it'll be a Perch and Williamson CB partnership........
