Bottled it? Hardly. I personally think he fancied a challenge, and there are good reasons why a manager would not want to come here. I also think O'Neill's the type of guy that would admire a club like Villa and their history.

To be fair, that's not really true, NSG. Think of all the keepers at a young age everyone has said "will make it". Off the top of my head, Richard Wright, Kirkland, Ian Walker all flopped after everyone telling us they would make it. There's undoubtedly been more. If anything, it's the one position you can't tell. As there's so much pressure on keepers, and as you get older it can affect you more. When you're young, you're almost fearless, that will leave eventually. You can spot the potential, but sometimes potential isn't realised. On the Schmeichel thing, he played handball all his life that's why he was so good. And was built like a tank, I fail to see any comparison with Krul. In the little I've seen of him, of course.

Can't live on ifs and buts though. Just about every team that's won the CL in the last ten years have been lucky in some way, shape or form.

I sort of agree with Rafa being a bit over-rated, only slightly. Winning the CL was the best and worst thing that ever happened for him. It almost certainly won him many, many fans, but the demand is so high now. He struck it lucky with that, but I also think Jose did too. I think Mourinho would be doing much the same sort of job as Rafa if he wasn't swimming in the billions of his owner. Rafa does appear to be getting found out. He's still improving Liverpool. From 5th, to 3rd (was it?) and I'm fairly certain he'll get them at least fourth this year. If he's ever going to challenge for the title, he's going to have to sort something. I think he's pretty un-ambitious in his transfer policy, and in my opinion, it's not payed off. Teams take time to gel, regardless, and I'm certain they'll improve this year and again next year. He's building a team, and it's not easy when you have the likes of Chelsea and Man U, with their spending power.

Come on, man. Glenn Roeder is terrible. I have no doubt Rafa would make our strike force look a hell of a lot better than Glenn's doing.

And a manager. Which for me, is far more important.

You've been pretty much spot on, got to admit. Still though, I reckon they'll be in the top four come the end of the season. Probably get pushed by Villa or Spurs (I've no idea how well, or bad, Spurs are even doing mind you) for it.
