  1. He was shiite for us in his last season here, dire passing, no legs, constantly fouling, an absolute liability. Like many over-the-hill players, hes done well at Bolton because thats what they specialise in - getting the best out of has beens and rejects. Harsh but true.
  2. Quite sad, if its true, that Emre acts like this on a pitch. It does look pretty suspicious - firstly saying he said nothing in English because he cant speak the lingo well, then, if those reports are accurate and he hasnt been misquoted or anything, then saying hell quit England if found guilty, then saying its normal in Turkey to call blacks "negros", all the whilst being "injured" whilst this investigation is going on. If hes guilty then he really needs to go. We should offer all the money to Arsenal for Denilson, or look to get someone of similar quality in. At the same time, I wouldnt be suprised if we keep him and let it all blow over, because that tends to be what happens in these types of scenarios. If guilty, hell be hard to ship, and although its clear alot of people dont rate him, he is a good footballer who we wont want to sell for peanuts. Anyway, it is pretty piss taking that theyre doing all their investigations in public and taking such a long time about it. If Emre is actually innocent, his reputation will be in tatters, and it will have been a horrible few months for him. Even if hes guilty, the way theyre spreading this investigation out means that by the time theres a hearing, then an appeal, then a ban, well probably be nearing the end of the season. Its basically playing us into the hands of our european-qualification rivals, because Emre is a first team footballer for us, a key player when on form because of what he brings to the team, in a squad plagued by injuries at a time when we cant get any replacements. The FA should be doing this alot quicker and quieter then they are, because it is affecting us in some form or other.
  3. more like 8million not 900grand like Sir Bobby's autobiography, Farewell but not Goodbye, Chapter "The Crown Jewels" page 239, paragraph one:
  4. Aye, same as in my book, it was definately in the summer of 03. Summer of 04, Blackburn and Celtic were interested. Its interesting that he denies he ever tried to sell Shearer, although at the same time, he talks about it being an incoming offer rather than him trying to flog Big Al - and if you look at his actions on the day, its paints the picture of a manager who was interested in selling. Recieves phone call from Houllier, runs up to the chairman who says "I cant sell our crown jewels", which Sir Bobby agrees with but then suggests that if he sold Shearer for 3mill he could buy Mpenza for 1 mill, to which the chairman gave a flat out "No".
  5. :nono: Source? Freddy So you don't really know then. http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-63111944.html http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-63096390.html http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-63104991.html http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-63528891.html more where that came from More of...what am I looking at, apart from random transfer speculation about a player who was linked to all the big clubs back around those times?
  6. Fact is that Shearer's performance levels went seriously downhill within about a season of Sir Bobby wanting to sell him. That, for me, indicates that Sir Bobby was right in trying to cash in when the opportunity was still there. Not only that, but he wanted to replace Shearer with a more mobile player - everyone raved about the added dimension Bellamy gave to us, so what was stopping us from having two players up front who made such a big difference to the team? Its no different to what ManU have done with Van Nistelrooy being replaced by Saha. The arguements used in this thread about Shearer's individual record could apply just as much to RVN, plenty of ManU fans were upset at losing their main goalscorer who has consistently scored heavily for them - then look at the difference between league positions with RVN last season and without him this season. Its the team that benefitted from his departure, and thats what should be most important, and what a great manager like Sir Bobby realised early on. indeed.
  7. Sell a poor Premiership forward on the highest wages for 4mill, sign a poor forward for 0.9k. Makes sense to me.

    Owen for Liverpool?

To pretend that he wouldn't make their team vastly better is just bollocks, to be honest..... I think Benitez is realising now just how much his team needs a strong finisher. Its the one thing that is costing them points on a regular basis, because their defence is for the most part strong, and they do create alot of chances, theyre merely lacking someone who will tuck away whatever chances come his way. Kuyt isnt that player. If Owen had been on the pitch for Pool against us wed have lost the game by half time.
  9. Why is Lampard on that list? Hes been shit.
  10. That Denilson kid already looks miles better than any central midfielders we have. Amazing talent at their disposal.
  11. Hes ridiculously unsuited for the squad Madrid have, the system and style they play, the formation. Hes always going to struggle in that team, with Raul the undroppable golden boy playing in his natural position. I would wet my pants if we could get Robinho. Martins next to him, wingers either side, hed be immense as hes a cracking playmaking forward. Star player, really hope he makes the right move and goes to a club that will both appreciate him, as well as build around him. Bit like Riquelme I guess.
  12. Aye, or an Arsenal style winger who constantly comes infield and links up, with the fullbacks overlapping.
  13. His passing range is just far, far too limited to be a central midfielder for me. Its not a part of his game, to spread the play, and hence I dont think hes ever going to be an effective central midfielder on a consistent basis.

    Ben Haim

Problem with someone like Ben Haim is that although hes definately a good defender in the Premiership for Bolton, hes playing in a superbly organised side, which surely makes his job alot easier as a defender, since thats half the job for them - organisation, teamwork, drilling, etc. We, on the other hand, have an amateurish coaching setup and are always a mess on the pitch when it comes to defending, its down to the individual to play well and when someone starts struggling, theres normally no way back for them. Hence, a good centreback like Ben Haim might struggle in our type of defence, whereas Distin at City is playing in a setup/team that is more similar to ours - nothing like as well organised as Bolton's imo. Would be silly not to try and get him on a free though, if he turned out to be shitter than what we have (unlikely) we could just sell him and make a profit, although Distin should be the bigger priority for me because hes fast, left footed - ie would complement Taylor well and can fill in at left back, as weve seen.

    Duff's Dive

Why does he continually stop with the ball between his legs, pretend to have constapation and positions his body as though hes shitting a brick, then pass it away? Decent performance though, ignoring the opposition. Nice dive.
  16. A team of part-time farmers who has advanced through the group stages of the Uefa Cup.....not totally useless then Yeah but we cant expect them to put up a good fight after theyve spent half the day milking cows and ploughing the oxens through the fields.
  17. Decent performance, but not much to take out of the game at all over than the satisfaction of comfortably putting away a team full of part-time farmers.
  18. I think Robinho would be a big player in the Premiership. Better version of Tino.
  19. The things that arent vitally important for a keeper are Shay's weaknesses. Distribution, penalty stopping, extra height, etc. Everything that is vitally important for a keeper, Shay is utterly consistently good at. Coming off his line, shot stopping, handling, positioning, and one on ones, something he is regularly excellent at yet doesnt often get credit for. Its hard to say whos definately the better keeper, noone will know this unless both keepers were given a long run behind the same defences in the same teams - but in terms of performances on a consistent basis, I think Shay is the best in the league, or at least top 3. Hes the one who is testest week in week out far more than others who are rated alongside or above him - even Jussi plays behind a considerable better defence - and he consistently performs to a standard of an excellent keeper.
  20. Mythbusters. Can a football be hit over 100mph? A bunch of ex-harley-davidson riding motorbike thugs newly reformed into geeks will answer your question by building a robot leg that hits the ball at 2mph, the conclusion being the myth is debunked.
  21. Always used 7 for a decent performance, 6 for just below that, 8 for good, etc, because thats what Championship Manager/FM have always used. Majority of people who have a computer and are footie fans will have played that game, so it quite sensible to use the system that most are familiar with.
  22. Yeah but hes scored more goals at White Ian Haarte Lane then any other forward in the Premiership in the past 2-3 seasons. Only Robbie Keane comes close to him. That makes him the best forward in the league for sure.
  23. What are you talking about, if you check overall stats you would see that defoe has more goals then bent. Dont really know why im replying to a weirdo that puts Doyle and Kanu in he's premierships 10 best strikers  :idiot2:. lol have to agree there a little. bent HAS played less games, and with the figures being so close. and charlton lack of europe or fa cup action means that Defoe if any good should score more. all these in mind and consider team -27 GA btw ! see Bent should be ahead of him in top 10 strikers in EPL! Are you mad? Defoe is world class, he has won the World Cup 3 times, were it not for his injury in 66 he would have won the world cup a record 4 consecutive times. Face the facts, hes changed the way the game is played.
  24. oh would that be the same darren bent that the majority of people on here were having wankathon sessions on last season going on about how he's better then defoe because of he's impressive goalscoring record in the league. well this season, defoe has took a grade A dump on Darren bent both on goals and assists. Bent doesnt have players as good as Franz Beckenbauer in his team, like Defoe does.
  25. Tevez hasnt scored, although he hasnt played as much as he should have, but he consistently looks a big threat and a quality player whenever hes played. Needs to be at a bigger club, without jealous players around him who decided to revolt because their mates lost their place in the team. Small time club with small time players.
