  1. Yeah, what's a poove?

  3. Agreed. He should have been phased upstairs rather than knee-jerk sacked, as I said in the post mistake number 1. But any manager you care to look at will have holes in his transfer dealings - Ferguson & Wenger have both made total balls ups in the past to go with their successes. The point I was making was about strategy, that Robson seemed to have an idea about where he was going and what he was doing; signing players at the right age for the right money instead of at any age for any money, which it's been since he left. We found Jenas by watching Notts Forest on scouting missions - how many have we found since Bobby left? As for Taylor, Ramage, N'Zogbia etc... they were all either signed by him, came through the youth/reserves when he was in charge or he gave them their debuts....what more do you want to credit him with? Taylor was full of potential when he broke through, after a couple of seasons in the first team with Souness and Roeder his confidence looks shot and he's forgotten the basics.... maybe we should credit somebody with that? Okay, I agree with most of your points but I have to say Bobby was left in the job too long by FFS. His replacement was a joke, really, I remember I nearly crashed the bloody car when it was announced. He had to go though, I felt at the time we had to move on. (That's move on, not down) My point about Ramage, Taylor and co was that they would have probably came through anyway, although I know you can never be sure about that. This is a pointless conversation anyway, if however it does have a point, a small one, it would be to say that, apart from the blip that was Bobby Robson, this club has gone steadily downhill since the day Keegan walked away, and that, my friend is a sad, sad, state of affairs. That's actually a very pertinent point, viewing Robson as a blip - if the club had had any kind of progressive management at the top we'd have planned on the back of what Robson was doing. Says it all. Howeverm if I'm guilty of looking through rose-tints at Uncle Bobby then I feel the point must be made that many people are seriously guilty of romanticising Keegans era. Great football, great team, don't me wrong I loved it all. But lest we forget this was the guy who abolished the reserves, showed no signs of forward planning other than who he was going to sign next, and after he left the club proved his utter inability to cope with the changing face of modern football. It's easy to point to when Keegan walked and the downhill slide, as I said in the original post, and that's what the Sheffield game seems to have provoked in most people but to me that's not the key, they key was when we sacked Robson without securing an adequate/competent/similarly-minded replacement.... My general impression is that our Board's idea of planning is looking at a lunch menu
  4. It certainly was for the Smoggies bluebiggrin.gif
  5. To be fair, Cort, Ambrose and especially Viana came to us with a huge amount of potential and given more time and less bad luck with injuries might have done better than they did. The Solano sale wasn't his best move ever but I understand his reasoning and Speed was sold behind his back. I don't care if he was "past it", his "past it" stage was still getting us into Europe easily enough. I think I'd rather have a past it Sir Bobby than a Glenn Roeder or a Graeme Souness at their respective peaks. I wonder if there is any truth in the malicious rumour that Sir Bobby actually meant to sign Carlton Cole instead of Carl Cort? bluebiggrin.gif
  6. The '75' in his username could be his age blink.gif Hmmmm.......
  7. tbf Sir Bobby claimed in his autobiography that Shepherd sold Gary Speed out from under him without his knowledge. Doesn't detract from your point about patchy transfer dealings though.
  8.  Agree were much with what you are saying here. Dunno about Keegan, would love for him to do great here again. But isnt he a bit loose on the money? I would actually love Kenny Dalglish back here as a DoF. Think he could do a very good job for us. And is a great person too. Would have suggested the ex argentinian coach as our new manager, only problem might be the language. What makes you think Dalgleish would make a good DoF. Knows nothing about current continental players, been out of the game for far too long but does have a very good golf handicap. Just because he has been out of job a while, doesnt meen he know nothing of current players. He can be up to date for all we know. He seems like the kind of person who can do good deals, as I can remember he handle the media very fine. He just looks like a person who can represent the club very well, and I bet he would spend his money wise. But its my personall view, you might have another. But I like the idea of him in that role, and just think he would do a good job. Maybe similar like the one he did in blackburn A lot of water has gone under the bridge since the Blackburn days. As I've said previously in other threads, Comolli joined Spurs with a dossier on every first team squad player of every club in Europe. I would doubt whether Dalgleish would have a dossier of every club in Europe, let alone each of their first team squad players. Spurs have shown in the past with Pleat what happens when someone not fully qualified is given the job. If I was looking to appoint a DoF, I would be looking at Houllier, Allofs, Monchi or Van Geel. They are the ones highly respected by both Arnesen and Comolli, which would be good enough recommendation for me. Not heard of these chaps, care to enlighten us... Allofs at Werder Bremen, Monchi at Sevilla and Van Geel was at AZ then moved to Ajax. Monchi and Van Geel were both interviewed by Spurs before appointing Comolli. I've had a bad case of the Monchis before too bluebiggrin.gif
  9. " And those who say Roeder is living on borrowed time are well wide of the mark. Indeed my sources at the club tell me that Roeder will be backed with substantial funds to spend in January. This should come as no surprise to anyone as Shepherd always backs his managers to the hilt when the going gets tough." Followed 2 days later by: "As I predicted, Freddy Shepherd acted to arrest the club's alarming descent by sacking Glenn Roeder yesterday. Roeder was always plainly on borrowed time but Shepherd has moved decisively to secure the club's future. This will come as no surprise to anyone given the club's recent results and the need to stop the rot".
  10. blueyes.gif In the cups I can live with the despair, it's the hope I can't stand. I'd rather we won in the league just now, never mind last night, we've got to win at City. Can't help thinking Roeder's been given till xmas to turn it around otherwise he's out regardless of results in the cups. That's surely the case. To be replaced by??? There's no need to worry about that man, we'll be ASTOUNDED at the top quality names queuing up to manage us bluebiggrin.gif

  15. Are you saying the board should be locked in the ground when the fire starts? WELL ARE YOU?!!! bluebiggrin.gif Good plan, never thought of that, maybe use them to start it, that blubber would burn for ages. bluebiggrin.gif It'd be like that petrol depot fire in Hemel Hempstead, it'd burn out of control for days. We'd have to sacrifice the S & N brewery and the Strawberry in the interest of the club of course....

    Fat Ronaldo

Yup I can see it. Quinn, Kluivert, Carr, Ronaldo. We have a fine tradition as a rest home for the terminally fat bluebiggrin.gif

    Freddy Eastwood

bluelaugh.gif Oh aye I cna see them both jumping at the chance to come here. Both Eastwood and Nugent will not even look at us. Southend Chief Exec on SSN now "EASTWOOD IS NOT FOR SALE!!" But we pay rolls royce wages man!!!! Isn't this all a bit kneekerk-tastic anyway? There must be some washed up spaniard or Italian we can spunk a few mill on, surely?

    Freddy Eastwood

If we signed him or Nugent on the basis of extended scouting reports and careful consideration, I'd be happy. Sorry, I just read what I wrote and it's ridiculous. Let's sign him if we've heard Villa are after him, they must know something bluebiggrin.gif

  21. So he has failed? bluebiggrin.gif Yes, but his failure is due to bad decisions rather than bad bookkeeping. All leads to the same answer tongue.gif I can't stand all this negativity. Lest we forget, in running conferencing and catering facilities Freddy is second to none. Plus the club's chef won second place in the North East Chef of the Year, a remarkable achievement which somehow has been missed. Come on people, it's not all bad!

  24. There will be cheap options this winter with contracts ending in the summer and some clubs looking to cash in. Beckham? bluebiggrin.gif We need a big strong athletic striker/defender. This is going to cost a fortune. There are plenty of other clubs prepared to pay decent wages nowadays and they arent involved in a relegation scrap. Absolutely, we're hardly the most attractive prospect at the moment......big signing on fees all round!!!!
  25. Yes our money. Unlike buying goods from the supermarkerts, most fans don't just buy tickets to watch the game, they fork out the money because they see it as an investment towards the club so that the club will have the finances to do well and improve. That's the only way to explain why people keep on buying tickets despite the extortionist prices, its definitely not for the entertainment value! Similarly reason why fans buy tops from the club shop when they can get the exact same product from normal sports stores for 10-15 quid cheaper. Paying OUR money towards NUFC is not just like buying a packet of condoms! From a purely pedantic point of view, its not the fans money. If you are a Scorsese fan and pay to see his films, they dont become 'your' films. If he raises money on the basis of fans going to see his films for a new production, that isnt 'your' film either. The exchange of money for products (i nearly said 'goods') and services is a legal exchange. Your money becomes the clubs money through your willingness to pay to watch games and own merchandise... whether they are entertaining or not. Fan power starts and stops with their willingness to pay. I'm sure that's exactly how the Board see it and why FFS insists on calling it a business rather than a club. Of course most fans don't see the analogy since if for example I think Scorsese is a stupid fat **** who doesn't have a clue how to make a film, I can always go and see any number of films by other directors. Whereas I'd guess most people on here will never support anyone but Newcastle Utd & view their money as going to support their club, however naieve a view that may seem. Of course they can stop spending on the club until things change but they don't enjoy the same freedom of choice as an ordinary consumer. An excellent point Kitman, they are running a kind of local monopoly which does mean that the market isnt fair. If you want to watch live football its Newcastle or nowt. However, just because they can extract higher prices out of us without affecting demand for tickets (given the quality of results/football remains), doesnt mean a transfer of ownership of any of the assets of the club to its paying supporters and customers. Whether you pay over the odds, under the odds or pay to someone you havent got a choice about, once you've handed over the money it not yours anymore. Of course you're right. But people have a special connection with the club don't they, which makes them think their money is going to support the club. You can't have it both ways really. If we don't care about that, let's drop club from our name. In fact let's call it Newcastle Give Us All Your Money We Don't Give a Shit about You If You Don't Like It Sod Off Ltd bluebiggrin.gif The club shop clothing and embroidering department would be the immediate beneficiaries That fat lad with NUFC tatooed on his belly is going to have to dig deep bluebiggrin.gif
