    Graham Carr

More holes than a sieve in this article from The Journal , one one hand says Carr looking abroad still while Pardew looking domestic Clarification has most certainly been sought on his remit in the wake of Kinnear’s appointment, but he is ready to push on in the hunt for new overseas talent. Carr’s relationship with Pardew is not beyond repair either, with the pair having spoken regularly since the season ended. As recently as Monday they were in contact to talk club business, which suggests there is a willingness to move on. The question now is whether Newcastle will train their focus on the domestic market – which is something Pardew has been pushing for several years. The Journal understands there has already been contact between the United manager and striker target Darren Bent, while he has also recommended West Ham defender James Tomkins as a centre-back target Read more: Journal Live http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2013/06/22/newcastle-united-star-ben-arfa-keen-to-discuss-new-contract-61634-33509641/#ixzz2Ww219jmk
  22. This tripe as if we only need one player Mike Ashley ready to inject more funds to land new NUFC striker 22 Jun 2013 07:44 Mike Ashley is set to inject extra funds into Newcastle United’s transfer kitty in order to land a new striker Mike Ashley is set to inject extra funds into Newcastle United’s transfer kitty in order to land a new striker. The Chronicle reported last night that Ashley had sanctioned the search to bring in a new centre-forward following consultation with new director of football Joe Kinnear. And next week United will sift through a list of options compiled from chief scout Graham Carr’s treks around the Continent in the last nine months. Ashley is believed to have told Kinnear that he will pull in extra funds that won’t drain United’s current running costs. Despite coming in for some serious flak from supporters, Ashley is keen to make sure United go into the new season in strong shape. Alan Pardew has requested United maintain big names such as Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa – all of whom have been linked with moves away from Tyneside in the last six months. A striker has been a priority for some time for United, but Ashley is thought to be keen to accelerate transfer activity after Kinnear’s arrival. Kinnear, who has spoken of a centre-forward being the main transfer aim all week said: “Mike wants us to be successful He wants us to do something here. “He doesn’t want us to be in the position we were in last season.” Pardew had targeted fallen England international Darren Bent of Aston Villa in his transfer requests to Ashley. But at 29, Newcastle still want value and potential sell-on prospects to remain strong, and Bent would be making his last big move in football with his 30th birthday coming long before the end of the season. Pardew is still keen on Bent though and has to convince his hierarchy that he could get the best out of a player for whom Villa want at least 6million. Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang remains on United’s wish-list and is valued by top clubs at £13million. The St Etienne striker is a sought- after figure, with Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma keen on the player too. Certainly, if Ashley was able to land the signing of the Gabon international it would give fans some hope for the forthcoming season. And it would also give the likes of Cabaye and Ben Arfa a link, both of them admirers of the man who grabbed 19 goals for St Etienne and 14 assists – something goalshy Newcastle were desperate for at stages last season. Kinnear had also said earlier last week: “If we spell it out to Mike that it is a serious situation and we do need a quality striker, I’m pretty sure he will pay up.”
