I think some are equating a well run club with one that doesn't spend any or much money on transfers. A well run club or even one moderately well run will generate 'profit', ok i'll rephrase that as most folk due to our recent history when you mention profit at a club immediately think of asset stripping, to being run well enough that income outweighs running costs (players wages etc) before a decent transfer kitty is budgeted for. Also, a well run club, especially ours, would/should increase the income on a yearly basis that is greater than the rise in yearly running costs. This would/should increase the amount in the kitty and also allow for one or two 'extra' signings that go over and above the allocated transfer fund but wouldn't overly affect the following years transfer kitty. We have or had one of the biggest turnovers in football, if we can can ever get it right behind the scenes we'll be more than a bottom feeder in the prem.

Mackem On OTB Reckons Cathcart Is Coming To Toon.
Offshore replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
This was a retarded opinion in the first place. One of our managers, years ago, under a previous owner, chose not to play a loan signing too often. OH MY GOD, the heartless b******. Whether it was the right decision or not, it was Roeder's choice to play Rossi, and he generally chose not to. So yeah, it didn't work out great for Man Utd, but there are never any assurances. Fergie isn't retarded, he knows this, so quite why people around here see it as some massive travesty of justice is beyond me. Bollocks, Fergie carrys more grudges than the Krays. -

Pleasently suprised by Fergie, didn't think he'd loan us anything after the way Rossi got used here by Roeder. -
Maybe something, maybe nothing, but if they already have experience of sports investment in the states then they'll know that over there media is king. If you don't build up a good rapport with the tv and press then you're knackered. But, might just be Craig getting ideas above his station - again.

oooooooyafukka...just watched that on youtube, he'll be lucky to walk without a noticable limp after that let alone play again.
-
Last time I checked he wasn't horribly mediocre and/or English. Ha, so which one applies to wor Beye?
-
Wonder if MON considered him before getting Warnock.
-
Bet if it had finished 4-3 to Huddersfield we'd have been on earlier.
-
If it means JFK is kept away from the club.................
-
We should stick a bid in for him, just what we need to kick-start our season
-
 Spot on Thought he was on the door with the Irish boxer (name escapes me) for the rigged poker game at the boxing club?

Nolan, Barton, Guthrie, Smith and Butt offer plenty of cover in this league Its a passable list for the championship, but if you take Barton and Smith out of it ..........
-
(One) of the problems with Barton and Smith is that they'll end up picking up suspensions. Smith can't help making stupid sliding tackles when he doesn't need to and Barton gets booked because he's Barton.

Sell now, Fulham or whoever won't make this offer again.

Premiership Top 4 (in order): Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal Relegation (in order): Burnley, Hull, Birmingham or Wigan Dark horses: Sunderland - Bruce has done most things right so far transfer-wise. Top Scorer: Fernando Torres Championship Promotion & relegation: Not a clue, its a flat league, but i'll stick my neck oot and say we'll go up via a trip to Wemberlee. League One Promotion: Leeds & Norwich, other than that not a clue FA & League cup any two teams in the top 4. Who'll be NUFC's top scorer?: Shola Ameobi but not with many and Barton will be our 2nd highest until he's away in the Jan window. How many will Nile Ranger score?:[/i] 6 First Premiership Managerial casualty: Paul Hart or Hughes Where will Man City finish?: 5th with a new manager.

Gotta decent feeling about this.......2-2 with a decent performance keeps popping up. Think i'll put a couple of beer tokens on that result later.

Sebastien Bassong signs for Tottenham Hotspur, fee undisclosed
Offshore replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
Unfortunately even if we'd managed to scrape 4th bottom, I think he'd have been hankering for a move away anyway - he's young and way better than a bottom half team. Beye on the other hand would probably have been happy enough to have played out his days with us in the premiership (hence settling to move the 'Hull'). -
Cheers.

Do you need anything funky to listen to this, the works pc here is a bit dodgy for installing programmes.

I'll go for no-one to be sold before the Orient game. You don't asset strip and try to sell a business for top dollar at the same time. I'd expect changes to be made but not until the club is sold (hopefully soon) or its taken off the market (again). Quite like .com but they do seem to be ultra pesimistic lately.

Just to throw this one in....and this is in no way an endorsement of JFK in any shape or form. I don't think we'd have gone down if he didn't have his heart attack.

Kinnear was on just a rolling contract last year and withing a few months could of very easily been here for the next 2 or 3 years! As long as the club is sold he'll be gone, and I still see the club changing hands this summer. However. If it isn't, then regardless of who is manager, we're fucked. if its all true of course.
-
Strangely enough, it sort of makes a bit of sense. 1. Can't appoint a new full-time manager as the club is in the process of being sold, even if the all the prospective buyers said they'd want to appoint manager 'X', the seller shouldn't go ahead until the sale is complete in case they drop out. 2. Players need direction, Beye/Taylor/Enrique have said as much. They are wandering about lost under Houghton, while Kinnear is no great shake at least he'll take charge, have some sort of authority and they should at least be focused more. 3. Thats about it........ Not much really, and while its not great, its better than what we've had so far.

Lack of communication between board and players to the extent that the players have now broken ranks shows unreasonableness of boardroom. Unwillingness to appoint Shearer despite everyone wanting him is unreasonable. Can't or shouldn't appoint a new permanent manager while the club is trying to get sold. If the new owner didn't want that manager and/or had their own guy earmarked then that would just be another extra expense to fork out to pay him off. Could be a deal-breaker. sORRY but that's bull. What happens if the takeover drags on until Christmas? At this rate it could do. Is Hughton supposed to bear the burden till then? And if it drags on who makes the decisions? Hughton won't, and shouldn't be expected to. And what would happen if he were to walk? The clubs long or short-term future will be sorted out before the transfer window ends.
