I guessed in the region of 50k so to hear it's closer to the 70 mark is a suprise but 10 year ago 50k was alot of money. That's football i suppose. It's important to remember that we have freed up alot of wages for next year.

A medical is a clear indication of willingness to do buisness from both player and club IMO. We are just having the usual jitters before we sign anyone. Its as good as done IMO.

Just because West Ham were allowed to talk to him doesn't mean Barton wanted to talk to them. I imagine he basically told them where to go because he had already made his mind up.

Yesterday i was getting a bit annoyed at how slow things were moving along. If this one goes through (and viduka) i will be quite happy that we have started the rebuilding process. Still need another 3 or 4 signings at least though.

Sibierski=Legend I'm not a bigit but he is one of the few frenchmen i really admire. Never the greatest footballer but played with his heart on his sleave and chipped in for the team. I loved his comments, didn't take him long to have ago at the chairman.

TBH i would not be looking on the continent. If we didn't get Barton i would be looking at one of two players, Nolan or Cahill. Big Sam has a good knowledge of the european game but i wouldn't be spending 7m on a foreign player, simply on our past history.

Emre has unused talent. His ball control, vision and work rate are fantastic IMO. The only problem is that as BooBoo says he does not use it to effect the game often enough. Can you remember when he signed for us there was a turkish guy on here that had watched him play for Inter and in turkey. He made a few comments that said: He's a very talented all round midfielder He needs to play in a 433 system as the link man He will always have a few injuries in a season, therefore will miss a quite a few games All of which are true IMO. For me the only way Emre's talent will be used to effect is if we have a defensive midfielder and a goal scoring midfielder alongside him. However, this means we will have to play 433 to accomodate Emre. Personally, i wouldn't be gutted if he stayed or went. I do believe that Allardyce is a very clever coach and could use Emre effectively for us.

Maybe so but Newcastle would still have needed word on whether he actually wanted to move there. For some reason deals often get confirmed early in the week, there is nothing to say we were not talking to Barton at the same time.
