  1. You forgot Palacios for £14m. I think Newcastle's ins and outs are pretty well neutral, maybe a little weakening. The major problem is not bulking up a smallish squad already ravaged by injuries with cheap buys or loans. Signings like Nolan, Taylor and Lovenkrands are fine but 3 new faces weren't enough, I think it should have been at least six.
  2. All agreed. Scan on Monday to ascertain the damage, won't be able to tell with the bruising whether it's broken or not. At least we do have money to buy someone, whether there will be enough time is another question
  3. The reading game wasn't behind closed doors, was it? "The Royals drew 4-4 with Tottenham Hotspur in a behind closed doors friendly on Wednesday afternoon............................" http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1536698,00.html
  4. The reading game wasn't behind closed doors, was it? I was told it was but it could always be wrong. The Reading OS has commented on it but nothing from Spurs, it was 4-4 and ALnwick was in goal!!
  5. Dorian Dervite loaned out to Southend for the rest of the season.
  6. Being said on one forum that Stephen Appiah is being offered 18 month contract with a 2 year further option. Several ITK's have said he impressed in a behind closed doors friendly against Reading but none have said he'll be offered a contract. All are agreed that ability to play 3 matches in a week is highly debateable, always hobbling the following day with dodgy knee(s).
  7. The Mail are saying that Keane's return to WHL has fallen through only because Redknapp refused to agree to Lennon going the other way. If that is accurate, it's been widely reported that Rafa wanted Lennon, it would seem we've had a close call on two fronts. I don't want Keane back and I don't want Lennon to go.
  8. I didn't say that. I said what Spurs need now is someone who knows how to coach the best out of the players they've got (you've got some very good players), not someone who falls back on the chequebook. And yes, MON did spend money in the summer, but he's also a good coach. That's where I think Redknapp fails. I still laugh whenever I think of his daft celebration that he did when Muntari scored against you lot at Villa park last season.(twice i think!). Villa fans seemed to enjoy it. BTW, Harry Redknapp also confirmed after the Burnley game that he knew nothing of any possible deal for Cudicini. I wouldn't believe anything he said tbh. For what it's worth Fred wasn't at WHL tonight but Fred's brother and agent were. Robbie Keane's agent was also there, but I'm sincerely hoping that there is no significance to that.

    Colin Calderwood

He would have been about 6 at the time, he started playing for Spurs in 1993. Calderwood turned down a significant pay rise from Spurs to leave to go to Northampton Town. He was rated to be an exceptionally talented coach, somewhat higher than his perceived ability as a manager.
  10. Seems like that's what his agent is trying to sort out for the summer. What with Defoe and Chimbonda, talk about friends reunited! Keane can't play with Defoe, Defoe is Harry's favourite so I hope it doesn't happen.
  11. Is that spending the Bellamy money before the Icelandic administrators get their hands on it? News from yesterday..... High court in Iceland has confirmed that Hansa ehf. has gone in to administration. Hansa is the owner of WH Holdings Ltd, the majority owner of West Ham FC. Björgólfur Guðmundsson is the owner of Hansa. so if Hansa goes into administration, surely that puts West Ham in danger, too, right? Hansa are in administration but West Ham are not so no problem for them right now. The problems will arise when they can't generate money from sales so need to to turn to the parent company for cash. That's how it was explained to me Ah right. I know its up to us to save ourselves, but I was kinda hoping that them falling into administration and earning a points deduction could give us a helping hand Us meaning Newcastle or Spurs? I think Spurs need the help more than Newcastle tbh I suppose the administrators could start retrieving assets from the subsidiary companies but with only a few days of the window left, not much likelihood of a fire sale taking place. We can always live in hope I suppose.
  12. Fergie agrees with Redknapp too................ Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has defended Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp's right to field a weakened side for Saturday's FA Cup tie. The two teams meet in the fourth round of the famous competition at Old Trafford with both clubs coming off the back of midweek Carling Cup semi-final clashes. While United managed beat Derby over two legs, Spurs were taken to extra-time against Burnley on Wednesday and Redknapp is concerned over the fitness of his squad. Midfielder Jamie O'Hara limped off against the Clarets to join captain Ledley King and fellow midfielder Jermaine Jenas on the sidelines. Redknapp has the visit of Stoke to think about on Tuesday with both sides on the same amount of points and just goal difference separating them from the Premier League drop zone. With the rewards for staying in the Premier League continuing to rise many top-flight managers view league safety above having the chance to lift the FA Cup. Understanding But Ferguson, who faces an injury crisis of his own at Old Trafford, feels that his counterpart's decision to field a weakened side does not disrespect the competition. "It is not a reflection on the FA Cup at all," the Scot insisted. "Harry was speaking in the emotion of a game of what I am sure is a concern. He has some genuine injuries and is concerned about Tuesday night against Stoke. "At the moment they are down there along with three or four others on 21 points. "He has been picking up one or two injuries and their next few league games are quite tough ones. "They have three six-pointers and are coming out of a match played on a really soft pitch in atrocious conditions. In that situation you must respect your club." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_4837683,00.html Alnwick ( )Zokora, Gio and Dervite all start apparently.

  15. If I were a Newcastle fan I'd be happy that Citeh were offering ridiculously small figures. If you are going to keep your head above the relegation dogfight you need to keep your best players ................... and Given certainly comes into that category.
  16. Honestly don't think Palacios is a lot better then what is currently at Tottenham in his position and at £14 million would it not of been more wise to spend it on a proper Left Winger or a Left Back that can actually defend? Crazy talk! Spurs only buy players in positions they don't really need to strengthen! Watching Pompey go straight through the middle time and time again confirmed there are a lot of positions needing improvement, a CM with an ability to tackle was one of them.
  17. Saved yoursleves 2 million then. Quite likely!
  18. Serious competition for him rather than cover. Gomes had a bad spell at the start of the season but that bad run cost us about a dozen points or so. If he does it again, at least we could take him out of the firing line. Two good experienced keepers like Given and Harper seems like a no brainer when you've only got one option and he couldn't catch a cold.
  19. Palacios signed five and half year contract for £12m + £2m add ons for winning things reported to the Stock Exchange.
  20. Being said on the message boards that he passed the medical around midday and is now doing the photos, kissing the shirt etc etc.
  21. Barry Silkman, the agent, was on SSN lunchtime suggesting Citeh had offered £7m and Newcastle wanted £12m.
  22. Nicko's 11 o'clock update............................ PALACIOS - Due to sign for Spurs. Again, who knows now. City might come back in.
  23. Martin Lol

    Colin Calderwood

Very good coach who did a fine job in charge of Spurs' reserves working with a very average bunch. Left to be a so so manager at best at Northampton and even worse at Forest. If he sticks to coaching and doesn't buy players he will be a fine addition for you. A lot better than his successor with the reserves, Clive Allen.
  24. Expected that Sebastian Przyrowski will sign for Spurs tomorrow from Polonia Warsaw as back up to Gomes. That should end the speculation about Spurs wanting Given once and for all. Being said that Appiah will be announced at the same time.
  25. May I ask why you only seem to post when things are appearing to go well for Spurs? Being out of the relegation zone only on goal difference isn't my perception of things going well tbh.
